Fernando Vina has signed a deal on with ESPN and Baseball Tonight ending his 12 year career. He will fill the 2B spot vacated by Harold Reynolds on the Baseball Tonight Softball team.

Is Orestes Destrade their..No offense but I could not understand a word he said.

ESPNews is reporting that Mark Prior isnt going to be pitching for the first 5 or 6 spring training games as a precautionary measure. Did he finish the season injured again last year? I though he actually pitched out the season after starting the season injured. Unbelievable.

Prior's season started on June 18th, he missed a few starts in July and his season ended on August 10th. So he missed all of April, May and September plus half of June and most of August. So he missed a little over 4 months of last season.

Rotoworld:

The Rangers and Michael Young have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $80 million extension through 2013.

Under the terms of the deal, Young will have his 2008 option picked up. Before the extension begins in 2009, he's set to make $9 million over the next two years. Young will have no-trade protection through 2010 and is set to become a 10-5 player in May 2011, so the Rangers would only be able to trade him without his permission during a window beginning at the conclusion of the 2010 season. Good luck with that contract. Although I really wanted Young, at that price, he's not worth it.

It's a pretty novel concept by the Rangers with Young. Even though the market is crazy, you still have to retain your core players. I just hope that KW doesn't give up on the idea of bringing back some of our core guys. The argument of "we're still spending 100 million dollars for our payroll" doesn't mean as much in this market, as 100 million dollar payroll might be the equivalent of a 75 million dollar payroll a few years ago.

So Kenny should sign mediocre defensive players at key defensive positions? 2005 is looking like a fluke for Young, I doubt he ever touches that again.

He's a good player, don't get me wrong, but he might eventually have to move to 2nd.

How many teams have a payroll higher than the Sox right now? Boston, New York, the Cubs, Anahiem, and the Mets are obvious teams, with LA, Toronto, San Fran (maybe?), and St. Louis in the neighborhood. We're still the highest payroll in our division.

I can see you guys b****ing if the Sox, next season, let go Dye and Buehrle and sign a bunch of Darin Erstad's to replace them (you know what I mean), but yeesh -- at least let it happen first...

With the BS that we've been hearing out of KW's mouth he has a reason to b****. First were not re-signing any of our pitchers. Now we'll wait until the season ends to start negotiations with our players who are FA's at the end of the season.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to give Buehrle a huge ass contract unless he shows he can get back to form and same for Dye, but vice versa. I don't know what the hell were waiting on Iguchi for.

My post was entirely based on the attitude that KW has taken in regards to the market. I have no reason to believe that the Sox will retain Buehrle and Dye after this year, and then Crede will be gone the following season (if he's not traded before that). I admire KW for what he did for the 2005 team, as he did a great job of signing guys who fit are needs. However, if he's going to b**** and whine in the press about what the market is like these days, then I'm worried about what our approach will be when it comes to extending players, etc.

Iguchi is the least of my concerns, as 2nd base is one of the easier positions to sign someone at for medium salaries. I think the replacement we could get for him would be a lot closer to his production than what Dye's replacement in RF would be, or trying to find another starting pitcher.
