Good stuff. The sooner he's out of the AL Central, the better. I pray he winds up on the Mets and is out of the AL for the remainder of his career!

Santana in the NL... under 2 era?

My thoughts exactly. Come on Mets!

The Mets need him the most, but will they give up their top prospectS for him? Cuz that's what it's going to take. I hope so, for the White Sox sake. But I could see them hanging on to him at least until ST.

If they can get him without giving up Wright or Reyes, I don't see how they can say no. Especially if they don't have to give up both of those young OF's they've got.

To me the best long term scenario for the White Sox is if Santana stays with the Twins this year (and Liriano struggles to regain his form) and they lose him in free agency to any team in the NL. Unfortunately, the Cubs are one of the few teams likely to compete for his services so the next best thing would be a trade now to another NL team with the prospects to get it done. Hopefully, whatever they get for him will end up having average careers in the twin cities.

A bit of an update. Apparently the deadline for offers was midday today. Supposedly all offers have been received. The Yankees do not appear engaged in the discussions but that is not confirmed. Per ESBM...

"Some officials engaged in the talks strongly believed that Santana will land with the Mets. Early Tuesday, Mets executives are quietly hopeful that they could land the left-hander with a package of players, so long as the Twins backed off their insistence that shortstop Jose Reyes be included in the deal. The Mets have preferred to dangle young players, such as center fielder Carlos Gomez, pitcher Phil Humber and others."

Does anyone remember what Pedro was traded for?

November 19, 1993: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Montreal Expos for Delino DeShields.

November 18, 1997: Traded by the Montreal Expos to the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later and Carl Pavano. The Boston Red Sox sent Tony Armas (December 18, 1997) to the Montreal Expos to complete the trade.

Mets is my best guess, and now ive clicked on that link and its confirmed.

Has anyone done any research to how many losses Santana hands the Sox each year. This could net us at least 3 more wins. Of course Gomez could be the next Beltran for all I know, and he KILLED us

ESBM stills says...

"Baseball officials involved in the Johan Santana trade talks say the Mets have the best offer on the table, as the Twins looked to honor the pitcher's request to resolve the situation.

If Minnesota opts to trade the two-time Cy Young Award winner rather than keep him and he works out a new contract extension, Santana could fill the hole at the front of the Mets' rotation."

The Red Sox also made offers, while the Yankees appeared to be out of the Santana talks altogether. But by mid-day Tuesday, Mets officials were hopeful they were the front-runners for the All-Star lefty, with an offer that included center fielder Carlos Gomez, pitcher Phil Humber and two other minor leaguers. It is not yet known whether the Mets have fashioned any offers around their best prospect, outfielder Fernando Martinez."

I hope the USA Today piece is correct, however.

Twins agree to deal Santana to Mets for prospects

The deal is pending the Mets and Santana reaching agreement on a six- or seven-year contract extension and that Santana passes a physical; they have been granted a 48 to-72-hour window to do so. Santana has a no-trade clause that he will waive if agreement is reached on a contract extension.

My guess would be 6 years 150 mil .. I thought I read the Mets only wanted to give him 5 years but they want 6 or 7 .. so thats my guess is that .. it comes out to 25 mil .. i think the lowest they would go is 145
