thedoctor
QUOTE (sircaffey @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) On a side note, if this makes Youkilis win the MVP, I'll vomit. Please give it to Hamilton. oh, it'll be worse when it's pedroia.
SoxFan562004
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Damn, this sucks...first Joe Crede, then Scott Linebrink,Jose Contreras and now our MVP...in my opinion,I'd rather we shut him down for the rest of the season than risk a career ending injury...buena suerte paisano.CQ you da man!! I think Linebrink's status is even more magnified now, it sounds like he's ready to pitch in a game, Ozzie just doesn't want to stick him in a close game, so if there's a drubbing going on this weekend, hopefully he's the first pitcher in. I think Swisher has to move to the 2 spot now. I know he's sucked out loud lately, but his OBP needs to be there so when Dye, PK, and Thome are up there's more men on base. I love AJ, but it's time for him to be dropped, only because of his OBP. We need OC and Swish to have good ABs in front of the heart of the order
watchtower41
Cowley is now speculating on suntimes.com that he did this while punching a locker in Boston? I don't know where he gets his information or if he just makes it up, but all too often he comes up with these nuggets that nobody else knew about, with usually no follow-up when fact is the exact opposite. bighurt4life
honestly, if you'd told me in the beginning of the season that quentin was going to hit 36hr and 100 rbi with an ops around 950 i'd have crapped my pants so i can deal with this. its a huge disappointment but i'd like to thank CQ for the great season and hope he's back for the playoffs

Don't clubhouses have like, just big open closet like structures in the locker room? I'm picturing like my high school locker room, then thinking wait, clubhouses don't have those. I suppose there could be some regular metal lockers in that craphole in Boston though.
Wanne
What a depressing Friday. This really does suck...but the best we can do is hope for the best that the other guys can pick it up. Hopefully Griffey will add SOMETHING to the lineup. Paulie's been swinging the bat much better. We need JD NOW...he just seems to either feast or famine at the plate lately. We've got the horses to carry us...they just gotta believe and get hot and stay hot.
jphat007
It actually makes the games more enjoyable to watch now. (ok i just read that and it sounds stupid. I just mean I won't get as upset as I would if CQ were healthy) Nobody expects to to play all that well when you lose your MVP so the guys can just go out and play loose and if they lose, it sucks, but not much you can do about losing your best hitter. If we win, makes it all the more sweet. Edited September 5, 2008 by jphat007
ptatc
This injury sounds like a scaphoid fracture. The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist at the base of the thumb. The reason they need to immobilize a small fracture is that the bone is peanut shaped and the blood vessel runs through the narrow protion. If it is not taken care of the lower part of the bone can die from a lack of blood. This will cause a decrease in the motion at the wrist which is what you DO NOT want to happen. These fracture are typically not seen on X-rays as they are too small. Usually MR or CT scans are needed. If this is the case, they will pin the bone to insure stability for 1-2 weeks then be in a cast or splint for 4-8 weeks to get a good callous for bone healing. i don't know if in fact this is the injury but by the description from reading here, that is the most logical injury Also, it was not from a HBP. This is his right wrist. He gets hit almost exclusively on the left arm, where his previous forearm injury was. It is very conceivable that he threw his bat and tried to catch it while the bat hit the wrist at the base of the thumb.

fathom
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Good stuff as always ptac. It's basically confirmed by multiple sources this has nothing to do with a HBP, rather it falls on something Quentin did to himself. Maybe Zambrano will fracture his penis by his continuous cup adjustment? Hopefully this is a lesson for CQ. All I know is we'll have the most intense cheerleader in history. SoxFan562004
Worst thing Ozzie can do is force Owens into the lineup using the "speed" excuse. While Owens has speed, he can't get on base
ptatc
QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) ESPN says two weeks minimum, probably more. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3571240 the only way it's less than 1 month is that it is the hamate bone which fractured. This bone has a hook which goes around the ulnar nerve. It can fracture and needs to be removed. There is very little immobilization and little recovery time for that injury because the bone is removed. I have a feeling it's the previous one I mentioned. Millions? He better learn his lesson. Billions. No, you're right, I hope he does learn his lesson but when you're that competitive sometimes it's hard to reel in your emotions, that's all I'm trying to say. Now we are considerably weakened. Fans in Minnesota have to be celebrating wildly. This is a huge loss and no way will he be back this season. A broken wrist? They should say he's gone for the year. The odds of us winning now are s***. This sucks. Edited September 5, 2008 by greg775

Everyone on this team (any team for that matter) should learn a lesson from this.
