iamshack
QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 13, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) because we have the day off?? i sat up in the booth with hawk and dj back when they were partners. dj was very cool and talked to me a lot between innings. hawk pretty much ignored me. another time we were at a team party in the offseason and i introduced my girlfriend to hawk. he proceeded to slobber all over her face. she is still traumatized by it. Are the two of them going to be back in the booth again for some reason or other though?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Apparently Tom Paciorek will be doing color along side Ed Farmer for the KC series filling in for DJ. So you'll have Hawk and the Big Hurt on TV with Farmio and Wimpy on the radio. What a bizarre weekend of White Sox broadcasts.

hogan873
I find the banter between DJ and Farmer to be pretty funny. I can never tell if they are just joking around or there's actually some tension. DJ always seems to have that slight tone of taunting, like he's trying to make Farmer angry. I think they are better together than DJ and Hawk were together. Balta1701
QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 13, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) I think they are better together than DJ and Hawk were together. Absolutely. And Stoney is about as good of a match as you can find for Hawk as well. (Of course, he's the best color man in baseball, so he's probably a good match for most people, but the ability to understand Hawk's obscure 1960's Red Sox lineup references helps a lot). (Of course, he's the best color man in baseball, so he's probably a good match for most people, but the ability to understand Hawk's obscure 1960's Red Sox lineup references helps a lot). Problem is, even when Hawk is at his best, Stoney and Hawk work poorly together because they are both color guys. Neither are good at PBP. My hope is that Hawk retires after this year, and they bring in a good PBP guy to go with Stone.

I do miss Rooney but I think both broadcast teams are a pretty good match. I don't listen to the Cubs so I can't express an opinion on how they are but when I read reviews in the paper they tend to give higher ratings to the Cubs teams. I find that hard to beleive. chw42
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) You know what really bothers me about WAR? It's the 10 runs/win. Think about it, you have all these complicated numbers calculated out to 3 or 4 significant figures. OPS of 1.012, wOBA of 0.352, UZR numbers of 10.5, on each of those you're calculating and probably keeping more significant figures to calculate runs saved. Then, you just slap a single significant figure on it, 10 runs/win, and voila. Really, it's not 9.453 runs/win? It's exactly 10.0000, in every circumstance, in every season? It's 10 runs because it has something to do with the Pythagorean W-L record. "Once you have obtained a player's RAR value, the translation to wins is fairly simple. Using a team's pythagorean winning percentage (RS^2/(RS^2 + RA^2)), it can be proved that for every ten runs that are lost or gained a win is similarly lost or gained. For every 10 runs a player is above a replacement level player, he is worth 1 win to his team." Edited May 13, 2010 by chw42

DJ and Farmio have such awkward dialogue sometimes, and I can never tell if it's serious. Whatever it is, the broadcasts always have me laughing, therefore, its a success. Oh, and they do a good job getting the game across too. But that's just my opinion.

I swear, he K's twice a game it seems like. Actually, Beckham does have the most K's on the team (28) in 31 games, so a little bit under 1 a game. His 28 are ~16% of the team's total.. I really hope he starts figuring it out. EDIT: Jones strikes out more times per game than Becks though, so he's not leading that category. Jones has 25Ks in 27 games played. But he and Beckham make up for it by the number of walks they take instead of someone like alexei who only has like 3 BBs to 17 or 18 SO. I kinda figured when you have Pierre and AJ (or even Kotsay) in the same lineup, you probably will have the fewest amount of K's and that is what KW wanted in the off-season. Guys like Quentin, Beckham, Konerko (though his BB's are very high with reason), Jones, Teahen, etc.. will walk quite a bit.

TitoMB345
So, Alex Rios last season (when we all hated him) was batting .199. We currently have three starters under that mark, along with 3/4s of our bench. Our other bench member, Nix, is batting .211, a tad bit above this mark. Just thought it was interesting. Ironically, Alex Rios is actually our best hitter (by a lot) right now.
