Bigbie dealt.... AGAIN!!!

Bigbie dealt to Boston for Catcher Kelly Shoppach and OFer Adam Stern.

According to the Providence Journal, Larry Bigbie will be sent from Colorado to Boston for catcher Kelly Shoppach and Rule-5 outfielder Adam Stern.

As a temporary replacement for Trot Nixon and then a reserve outfielder, we suppose Bigbie wouldn't be so bad. Still, just like with the Tony Graffanino acquisition, it's disappointing that Boston can't do better. If the Red Sox want to go back to the World Series, they shouldn't be settling for mediocrities. Shoppach would be a nice pickup for the Rockies. It's hard to imagine a better situation for him, as he could start immediately and Coors Field would help with the breaking balls he has difficulty making contact with. The Rockies are likely looking at Stern as a long-term reserve.

EDIT: I'll merge this once people see it with the other trades thread in a few.

What. Shoppach for Bigie? AND Stern? Wow, Theo's a dumbass.

That's what I was thinking... Unless Bigbie is going to be dealt to Florida, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Red Sox. Didn't they just get a AAAA OFer type in Hyzdu?

Yeah, definitely a nice deal for the Rockies. Byrnes for Bigbie kinda made me wonder in the first place.

:o I'd assume this takes them off the list of potential Huff suitors considering they just dumped one of their best spects? They also got a left handed hitting outfielder that they wanted but yeesh, that's overpaying to an extreme.

When a team is desperate theyll do anything, but i wouldnt be surprised if bigbie is dealt 1 more time before the deadline obviosly some other team wanted bigbie for someone the red sox want.

Is this for real or is ESPN (Buster Olney, really) just clueless?

I was watching this morning, and they were mentioning prospects the Red Sox could move to look at Guardado.

Kelly Shoppach's name came up; however, he's in this deal. :huh

Probably a replay from last evening?

This makes Boston appear very unprofessional. Whether it is Theo's fault or not, it makes him look bad to have his word on a trade mean less. Semi-similar to what DePodesta did a year ago

Very similar to the Erstad/Garland trade of a few years ago. The catcher that was supposed to go from Boston to Colorado, is being dangled to TB in a package for Huff.
