DBAHO
Here's the story; One of those now-it-can-be-told stories the White Sox, A.J. Pierzynski's new employer, surely haven't heard: During a Giants exhibition game last spring, Pierzynski took a shot to his, shall we say, private parts. Trainer Stan Conte rushed to the scene, placed his hands on Pierzynski's shoulders in a reassuring way, and asked how it felt. "Like this," said Pierzynski, viciously delivering a knee to Conte's groin. It was a real test of professionalism for the enraged Conte, who vowed to ignore Pierzynski for the rest of the season until Conte realized how that would look. The incident went unreported because all of the beat writers happened to be doing in-game interviews in the clubhouse, but it was corroborated by a half-dozen eyewitnesses who could hardly believe their eyes. Said one source, as reliable as they come: "There is absolutely no doubt that it happened." ...

Pierzynski is going to be a fun guy to have around this summer. He'll be a fan favorite in no time. I can't wait to trot Pierzynski out there against the crybabies from the Northside. AngelasDaddy0427
Ohh no....Let's void the contract now... This is exactly what this team needs. Someone who won't take ANY s*** from anybody. If fact AJ ought to go down and kick his ass again for tattling.
Flash Tizzle
How exactly does Pierzynski knee personal trainer Stan Conte without additional fans, media personnel noticing? Does the article not sound as if the incident occured during the game? "Conte rushed to the scene," yet only a select few witnessed it. Regardless of its authenticity, AJ is beginning a new slate. Hopefully his teammates feel similarily.

striker
I said we write a letter to the SF and Oakland papers telling them that we don't care about what AJ did in SF and we don't want to hear anymore of their stories. Then we ALL sign it.
YASNY
I wanted the Sox to sign AJ, but he does have to prove himself. I think the Sox should wipe the slate clean, but AJ has to do his part. As a fan, I'm not giving him a free pass.
EvilJester99
I don't think anyone should give AJ a free pass but people are beating this friggin horse and its long been dead. People know AJ might not be the best person persay but everyone has to get over it already and let him play his ass off and hope he helps the Sox win....Lets just me though. Then we ALL sign it. I wouldn't sign that. That's pointless. And if you want your news filtered, go live in North Korea. We all know he's a jerk. Just like we all knew Rodman was a jerk. But if he helps us win, who cares?!
YASNY
I remember hearing "whispers" about Jiminez. Well, they were right. He tiurned out to be a jerk and a detriment to the team. Clayton did too. AJ has the opportunity. I hope he realizes his career is on the line.

Ok... I see your point. Let's say that AJ knows his ability to make the big bucks is on the line. He's said that he wants to get this behind him so it doesn't hinder his career. If you think about, it probably has cost him a few million in 2005. His ability is worth $5 million per, at least. He wasn't getting any interest due to the reputation. So, in a way, his career is on the line. At least the amount if potential future income is on the line.

And to make your point a little stronger, let me add that AJ's rep will be a lot more costly than D'Angelo's. The big knock on D'Angelo was laziness, AJ's more of an out-and-out ass to his own teammates. Which is much worse, imo.

Flash Tizzle
QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I wonder if Stan is any relation to Victor. I was wondering the same thing this morning. Found this browsing Google: Southpaw (Seymour, IN): Forgive my ignorance, but are you related to BALCO's Victor Conte? I'm not trying to imply anything, I just had to ask given the same last name. Stan Conte: Thanks for the question. I am absolutely not related to Victor Conte. Since the Balco thing broke I have been swamped with questions about the fact that we have the same last name. It is unfortunate for me and my family but it is an understandable question since some of the Giants players are involved with the Balco scandal. I have never met Victor Conte and frankly hope I never do. I have been a staunch supporter of drug testing in MLB and leveling the playing field in regards to illegal use of drugs in baseball. There is no place for this in baseball. Not only is it illegal and unfair to the athletes who are competing without drugs but it is unfair to the game itself. I believe that MLB is moving in the right direction with the drug testing. I only hope that it the testing in the major leagues gets to be comparable to the one that is now implemented in the minor leagues. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=
