sox-r-us
There are reports that he is looking to change his agent and ask to be traded from the Bo Sox. Independent of what happens this year with our Sox, I want to contend every year and not break this momentum. We obviously have great pitching set for next year too (Buerhle, Count, Garland, Garcia, McCarthy to start and add El Duque to bullpen as set up man), and while our O has been game all playoffs, the Boston pitching is weak and I think we need to upgrade our O in the offseason. How about trading for Manny Ramirez???? The guy would be a monster at the Cell and make us a legit contender again next year. We could play him at DH if Frank does not come back or if Frank does come back, then we play Manny at RF and put Dye either at 1B (and let Paulie go) or trade Dye away Thoughts??? http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...to_hasten_exit/
witesoxfan
He is the opposite of everything this organization, at the current moment, is built upon. The Sox are a speed-defense-pitching team first mentality, game in and game out busting ass and never stopping till the final out is made. Ramirez is slow, lazy, horrible in the outfield, and very egotistical. That being said...I'd love him as a DH just due to him being such an unbelievably good hitter...but I'd probably pull my hair out watching him stare at f***in homers, and then getting a single on a ball to the gap. hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 07:10 AM) How about trading for Manny Ramirez???? Thoughts??? Hell no. DBAHO
Garland and Pierzynski get raises. We have 3 OF's already. Way more likely that Konerko gets re-signed before we trade for Manny. I doubt Manny's going anywhere anyways, unless Omar Minaya suddenly decides Carlos Beltran is expendable.

sox-r-us
I know Manny is the anti-thesis of what this team is made of.....but I really want us to add one more bat in the offseason.....with our pitching I see us with another shot next year (not to say we may not win it all this year, but those Cardinals really scare me ..... they have pitching and hitting....) I would be fine with re-signing Paulie and Frank coming back.....but my God the thought of Manny hitting at the Cell has me really going. Ozzie can easily whip Manny into changing his attitude etc....I think Ozzie has a way with Latino players unlike anyone else..... I know this is almost an impossibility, but something to look at in the offseason I guess

They'll have money to spend...but I see a lot of resignings, and not as many additions.

Trade wise, Chad Tracy's where it's at. And if Dave Wilder becomes the D-Backs GM, well a package of prospects including Arizona Native Daniel Haigwood, could suddenly work. But Giles is at least gonna get 4 years @30M this off-season. At his age, I doubt the Sox enter the bidding at that price.
Gene Honda Civic
http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-soxnt08.html BOSTON -- If seeing high-priced Manny Ramirez in a White Sox uniform next season sounds far-fetched, consider that the Boston Red Sox outfielder has said he would like it to happen. According to a source, Ramirez told multiple White Sox players earlier this season that he wanted to play on the South Side and suit up for manager Ozzie Guillen. Seeing the White Sox jump out to a 2-0 lead over the Red Sox in the American League Division Series this week might have inspired Ramirez into action to make a White Sox deal a reality. A report Thursday said Ramirez had fired his agent and is seeking a replacement, possibly with the intent of having his new representation work a trade out of Boston. Landing the volatile outfielder seems unlikely, though, and not only because of his price tag. Ramirez is due to make $57 million over the next three seasons and has $20 million team options for 2009 and 2010. Earlier this season, after Ramirez told Sports Illustrated that he preferred a trade from the Red Sox, members of White Sox management said Ramirez's baggage was capable of damaging team chemistry. Ramirez is the kind of high-profile, large-ego player whom general manager Ken Williams avoided when putting together this season's roster. One definite snag in Ramirez's plans to change his Sox is that a report on FoxSports.com said he might be seeking Scott Boras as his new agent. This past offseason, the Sox eliminated Boras clients from their list of potential free-agent pitching acquisitions. The only Sox player currently represented by Boras is Joe Crede. Rowand44
Manny would cost an arm and a leg. This team has a great core right now and I don't want to mess with that, there are ways to upgrade the offense without tearing this team to shreds and that's what trading for Manny would do. I don't want to mess with this pitching staff at all going into the offseason minus trading Damaso.

So you are telling me that if we do not win the WS this year, you would not want to upgrade the O in the offseason to go for it again next year? And especially if we lose Paulie to FA, you do realize that 40+ HRs, 100+ RBI people do not grow on trees? You do realize the Bo Sox pitching was the worst pitching the Sox hitters will face this post season. If we get the ANgels, they have a helluva pitching staff ..... their BP looked really strong today with SHields, Donnelly, KRod and now Escobar added to it too
Mercy!
Speaking of former Cleveland Indians, haven’t we already had our Albert Belle moment in Chicago? Sure, Manny is a great talent and a future HOF’er. He’s also a selfish, moody, hustle-when-he-feels-like-it guy who just doesn’t respect the game. He’d be an awful fit on this team. I’m glad I got to see him hit those homers in Game 3. When he ostentatiously posted up to admire his shots and had the nerve to start messing with his gloves before he even stepped out of the box, it was nice to know that none of our current players will be embarrassing us with such an ignorant display. When you look at what is cost to trade for Alex Rodriguez, who is far far far better than Manny, you would realize it will not cost that much. WHen a team is trying to dump a high priced contract (and when they need $$$ to get pitching) they make concessions on what they get back as long as it is cheap.....Damaso + ANderson should do it.
