Eyre's a good addition for them but I wonder if they overpaid and by the sounds of it they probably did.

The stuff we're hearing is 3/11, which is way too much for him. Like I recently said, I'm very thankful the White Sox didn't sign him for even 3/9.

Quick, everyone get in line. Jim Hendry is giving away money! Check this out.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Free-agent reliever Scott Eyre agreed to terms on a two-year, $11 million contract with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal, which includes a player option for the 2008 season, were still being negotiated.

"We haven't worked all that out yet," Eyre's agent Tommy Tanzer said. "There is going to be a signing bonus."

Eyre's contract calls for up to $300,000 a year in performance bonuses. He will receive $100,000 for 70 appearances and an additional $200,000 if he pitches in 80 games. There is also wording that would give Eyre additional money should he become the Cubs' closer.

How does Scott Eyre get all that money to begin with and also get a signing bonus and performance bonuses? He's a 33 year old reliever who had one good season. Jim Hendry is insane.

the reason Remlinger's stats were so good with Atlanta was because he was used him correctly. Bobby Cox almost never used him against left handed hitters. In fact lefties had 68 at bats against him compared to 174 at bats against righties.

To put it in perspective...

2006 White Sox Salaries:

Dustin Hermanson: $2M

Cliff Politte: $1.2M

Neal Cotts: $330,000

Bobby Jenks: Not available, but likely under $1M

Pretty sure their combined 2006 salaries will barely crack $4 million. And if Eyre's contract is what they are saying it is, he might make more than our big 4 combined next year. Ouch!
