JPN366 Posted May 11, 2008 Share Posted May 11, 2008 (edited) When he hits homeruns, he hits them. I've never seen such majestic bombs in my life. Utter perfection. He hit one last week that I swear traveled 475 in the air, then landed in a parking lot and probably rolled another 100 feet. His homers are like laser blasts. Last night it must have been 450. NorthSideSox72 Posted May 29, 2008 Share Posted May 29, 2008 I've been looking at this guy's numbers in his minor league career. He really only had one disappointing full season - 2006 @ W-S. But even that year, he posted a 770 OPS, which isn't exactly bad. In 2007 it was 876 at High A and then 1.063 at B-Ham, now he is at a ridiculous 1.097 in B-Ham. So far at AA, in a total of less than a half a season's work in 07 and 08, he has compiled 18 HR's in 262 at bats. That's about a 40 HR pace, in a park that is NOT homer friendly. Also, unlike a Collaro or Eldred type guy, he walks a LOT and strikes out only rarely. That combined with serious power is a nice combo. I really think this guy may have something. 2 straight seasons of excellent hitting is not a streak, its a pattern. His finals stats at Birmingham in 2008 were: .313/.467/.577/1.044 12 home runs, 30 RBI, 15 doubles, 2 triples, 8/15 steals, 62 walks, 47 k's in 208 at bats. So yeah, clearly dominant. Cook hasn't played in over a week (July 23rd) so I wonder if he is hurts, but here are his numbers at Charlotte so far: .267/.355/.452/.807 in 146 at bats. 5 home runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 18 RBI, 3/3 steals, 18 walks, 40 strikeouts (yikes) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NorthSideSox72 Posted September 19, 2008 Share Posted September 19, 2008 I believe Mr. Cook is a minor league free agent as of now. I wonder what's next for him. I'd like to see him in ST and get a look as a backup OF. But some other team may offer him a real chance to start, in which case I doubt he'd stick with the Sox.
