Konerko BAD - Fire GOOD

I love this lineup without the slow and powerless numbers of Konerko. Do we want him back?

This is a very intriguing question. It's tough to say. When Konerko is at his best, his lack of speed really isn't a big deal. And with his track record he will most likely not be benched. But you never know with Ozzie. But I certainly wouldn't mind Thome and Konerko splitting DH from time to time and keep Anderson/Wise in center

Yes I want him back in the lineup. I know Wise has done some good things in the lineup but I do not expect them to continue, in fact his numbers have dropped a bit with limited at bats. Anderson has had two clutch hits, but I still do not trust someone with the batting average he has. I know Konerko also has a terrible batting average thus far, but I expect him to pick it up when he comes back from the DL. I wish Konerko would change his hitting approach back to focusing on line drives as he did with our powerful lineups from 2000-2002, but he was also batting lower in the lineup at the time. When he comes back there is now way I want him batting 3, 4, or 5 regularly until he can pick himself up.

Dumb question. The recent explosions by Thome and Swisher prove that you don't give up on proven vets after a bad month or even two. As soon as PK is ready to go, throw him right back out there.

There's a contingent of people who are under the impression that before this season Konerko's awesome power was so overvalued by the Angels organization that they'd be willing to deal Kotchman and Santana just to acquire said power (and of course a low level prospect or two.) I don't know you well enough to just assume you're not one of these people.

This is a great point as far as I'm concerned. However, the key to it is to throw him back out there when he is ready. If he's not ready, don't rush it, because the Sox are playing just fine without him. Let him hang around on the DL until he is 100% ready to go.

Let's keep winning w/out him then welcome him back as he hits some immediate bombs.

White Sox 1B Paul Konerko reiterated his strained left oblique felt better after taking batting practice for the second straight day but was not sure when he would start a minor league rehab assignment. “I don’t think it’s all my decision on when I’ll go,” he said. “I think it’ll be my decision on when I come back because I’m the only one that’s going to know exactly how it feels in the game.” Konerko said the oblique started to flare up after about 20 swings, just as it did on Tuesday, but he shrugged that off as “that last little bit of scar tissue you have to break through.” ... Ozuna started at third for Joe Crede, who insisted his surgically repaired back is fine and that he just had a day off.

I'd love to see this history of sucking...what a ridiculous statement. Please do something to prove yourself right, because the only year he "sucked" was 2003, and he was right at his career norms last year.

 

With the first point, I disagree completely. If he comes back and doesn't perform AND the Sox don't win, then you start to go back to what was working.

I guess that was a little much but he drives me insane. Konerko is just about the streakiest player to ever out on a uniform. When he is seeing the ball he is as good as a hitter as you can find. When he is not, he is worse than Uribe. Uribe may suck but at least he can sometimes come through with runners on base unlike bad Paulie. How many times has Paulie come up with runners on and ground out to the left side or pop up. Can he just stop acting disappointed every time he pops up and just act like he expected to, because I certainly did. It seems every god damn game he pops up. Oh, and for the love of god not every pitch needs to be pulled. I have seen him pull a pitch low and away 2 feet out of the zone. He'll suck for a month then hit like .700 for a week and a half, then suck for a month, then hit like .700 for a week and a half etc.

Absolutely. This guy has done so much for this team over the years. You dont dump him for a couple bad months, although it was super frusterating of course. PK will get back on track at some point after he returns. I am sure of it.

Wise and Anderson have been solid in this brief sample size, but theres a reason Wise is a 30 year old minor leaguer and Anderson is a forth outfielder. Konerko is one of the better hitting 1st basemen in the league and he'll be just fine if he's 100% when he gets back. His bat will be greatly appreciated when Dye cools off.

If Konerko came back and was healthy with the hand and the oblique, and hit like he normally does, if everyone stays where they are at, it will be a cakewalk to an AL Central title.
