It’s easy to say that Mark Buerhle is one of my favorite players ever, in any sport. Buerhle is a guy who was drafted in the 38th round, an area of the draft where not too many players end up making it from. He spent a very short time in the minor leagues before making his big league debut. He is a finesse pitcher who when at his best is masterful at changing speeds and hitting his spots, and works quicker than anyone on the mound. From the onset of his career, he has proven to be a hard working pitcher and by all accounts a great teammate and person. When you watch him play he is often seen smiling, clearly enjoying the game. His GM actually had to prohibit him from sliding on the tarp during rain delays, due to the fact that Mark had turned that into almost a signiature routine of his for the fans when the White Sox were in the midst of a delay during home games. He plays the game the way it is meant to be played and you know you’ll always receive 100% from him when it is his turn on the mound. He has proven to be a big game pitcher, even earning a save in Game 3 of the 2005 World Series, a mere two days after he had started Game 2. Recently, Buerhle resigned a deal to remain with the White Sox for 4 more years at a discounted rate, when he in all likelihood would have made more on the open market. In this day in age, when money is the ultimate decision maker for so many players around the world of sport, decisions like Buerhle’s are even more greatly appreciated by fans like myself. Mark Buerhle is one of those guys who makes it really hard not to root for him. He doesn’t cause distractions for his team, he doesn’t give the media a hard time, and brings a great attitude into the dugout. Mark Buerhle does everything right and it is a joy to watch him pitch. And oh yeah, he’s pretty good too.

Alright pitcher. Pretty good attitude. I just hate that they don't let him slide across the tarp anymore. In my mind, I think ownership/management/media has made some aspects of this team too serious. The whole hair thing, the whole Buehrle sliding on wet tarp.

Seriously?

Yeah. I mean he's above average, but he's not spectacular. I like how he works fast, attacks, etc. But he doesn't K anyone and relies a ton on defense. Plus he gives up a ton of hits. When you face good hitting ballclubs, that will get you smashed. That's why as a playoff picture, he would be like #3 to me, always.

He's a decent guy though and loves to have fun which is what I like. And he's not having fun in a Manny way which is always complain. In a league with superstar ego's, he's a good player with no ego.

3.42 era in his career in the playoffs.

That's pretty good, not spectacular. He went 9 innings and allowed 1 ER in the ALCS, in his other two starts he went 7 while allowing 4 earned in both. Not exactly what you're looking for from your #1 starter.

Decent ERA, but I would rather rely on a Beckett type pitcher or a Doc Halladay or in 2005's case, a Jose Contreras.

Good guy though. He was the first Sox player I saw that was good and legit as a pitcher, so I won't hate him. I really can't, even during his terrible stretch in which we brought back Sandy Alomar.

Can't imagine how you could leave MB off. He's number 4 for me.

In some of these lists, people only toss in a few names, not an entire 20. Plus, they do not put too much thought into it. So two of those lists may have been only 3 or 4 names.
