BearSox
Brad Boxberger, SP, Southern Cal - 6'2" 200 lbs.(Throws R | Bats R) Scouting Report Strengths: Has really improved this year and has 4 solid pitches. Possesses a low-mid 90's fastball with solid movement in to right handed hitters and has been able to keep the velocity late in games this year. Has a good hard tight slider and also a good curve. Also has an average change. Has a solid pitchers body and good poise on the mound. Negatives: Command is inconsistent and does not have great stamina. Will he be able to remain in the rotation or will he have to move to the pen? Boxberger's K/IP and H/IP ratios are excellent, but his walk rate is rather high. The stuff is here: 90-95 MPH fastball, good slider, curveball, changeup with some potential. Because of the command issue, he could last to the second round. There has been talk of making him a reliever, but given his overall performance this spring he could remain in the rotation as a pro. He would be another option late in the first round or in the supplemental area. Statistics 2009 - 3.16 ERA | 6-3 W-L | 94 IP | 14 GS | 1 CG | 69 H | 50 BB | 99 K | 42 R | 33 ER | 4 HR 2007 & 2008 - http://www.thebaseballcube.com/Players/B/B...Boxberger.shtml Bio http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl...ger_brad00.html Video Projected Draft Slot Between late 1st round and late 2nd round. Player Comparison A lesser version of Chad Billingsly My Take Solid starting pitching prospect. Wouldn't take him with 23 and probably wouldn't take him with 38, but at 61 or 71, he's a very intriguing option. While he does have question marks on being able to stay in the rotation and if he can control his pitches, he has 4 solid pitches that can be effective. Seems like a high risk-high reward type of pick. Edited May 27, 2009 by BearSox
Chisoxfn
I like him. He's got a good build, solid stuff with some upside, and should at least turn into a good relief prospect with a shot at being a good starting prospect. Depending on whats out there, I consider him from the supplemental slot on.
ThunderBolt
You are doing a damn good job, Bear Sox. When you're not focused on Ryan Sweeney's pec's, you do great work.
