Kyyle23
Harry Teinowitz fired from ESPN after Carmen Jurko and Harry came in 10th in arbitron ratings(conversely, Boers and Bernstein came in first). Big shakeup coming at ESPN radio one would think
StrangeSox
I used to listen to a mix between MJH and B&B, but once Mac left, I couldn't stand the show. If I listen to any sports radio at all, it's about 15-20 minutes of B&B on my drive home. If Dan starts getting into his hyperaggresive, semantic and bad-faith arguments with a caller, I flip it off. Sometimes they turn out great ("Steak dinner. BOOM!") but usually they're just him intentionally misunderstanding an alternative point of view. GoSox05
I don't know how Harry Teinowitz made it this long. That guy is the worst. Just about everything on ESPN 1000 is awful.
Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) I don't know how Harry Teinowitz made it this long. That guy is the worst. Just about everything on ESPN 1000 is awful. I disagree with that, Waddle and Silvy is probably my favorite talk show in town. I enjoy B&B, and I like Mully and Guest (i.e., no Hanley- HE is the worst). CJH is just listening to a bunch of douchebags talk about how awesome they are. Steve9347
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) Harry Teinowitz fired from ESPN Long overdue.
Kyyle23
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Long overdue. exactly what I told my buddy. He was terrible. So, ESPN has to make a move to try and get this slot again, but IMO going syndicated would probably be the worst possible thing. I would boot Jurko, and bring Silvy and Waddle in to reunite with Carmen and let those guys go. It has to be a local flavor and Waddle and Silvy have been doing well for themselves
maggsmaggs
The best talk show host in Chicago is Lawrence Holmes in my opinion. Bernstein is annoying but it a good way where you want to listen to him. Boers is a putz and just an idiot who is hard pressed to make coherent thoughts and usually ends up parroting Bernstein. My ideal show would Bernstein and Holmes. I love Waddle & Silvy, but CJH was garbage. Jurko brings nothing to the table except in football knowledge. Too often jokes around instead of giving real thoughts. I didn't hate Harry, but he really did not bring much. Carmen is good, but was not a good fit with those two. If I am ESPN, I bring in Lawrence Holmes for the afternoon drive. I actually think he and Carmen could be a good team. I would boot Jurko, and bring Silvy and Waddle in to reunite with Carmen and let those guys go. It has to be a local flavor and Waddle and Silvy have been doing well for themselves They might as well go syndicate. You aren't going to beat Boers and Bernstein. They used to be a younger demographic, but now they've been on the air for like 15 years. So the younger demographic (see 18-30 - I include my new age in the younger demographic heh) likes them, while the older demographic (see 31-45) fell in love with them at that early age and keeps listening. There's no chance in this town to beat B&B in the 2-6 time slot. It's not happening. You go syndicate there if you're ESPN and focus on improving the morning show (I'm sorry, Waddle & Silvy is pretty stale).
MexSoxFan#1
I've no idea who any of those people are but since it's sports radio, I'll take a wild guess and say I'm not missing much.

He's a bit of a kiss-ass, though, which would definitely work for ESPN. They'd have a real crowd pleaser if they brought him in to work with Carmen or Silvy in an 11-2 or 3 slot. Whoever the genius is that thought Carmen could drive the afternoon show after Mac left should probably also join Harry in unemployment. Carmen is best suited for the role he once had in Silvy & Carmen (Silvy's sidekick).
SexiAlexei
I was one of the people that use to listen to B&B religiously, but I honestly don't understand how they are still doing so well. To me, they use to be very intelligent and give a lot of sports knowledge. It seemed like every once in a while they'd insult a dumb caller. Now it seems like that's their thing. If someone calls in and doesn't echo their opinion, they just turn to insulting the caller. The caller could have a great thought, but it doesn't fall in line with the host, so they just attack. Yet if they have a guest with these same "dumb" thoughts, they usually don't say a thing. Their Who You Crappin and Friday Fun, and what else are entertaining, but I stopped listening to them for actual sports talk. I have to assume a lot of their listeners just like hearing people be attacked. I know a buddy who loves B&B listens because of that. I've turned to CJH because they seem to be the opposite of the above. They might not have as much sports knowledge, but I don't have to listen to them rip callers constantly. i agree with those of you that said Holmes would be good on ESPN. I think he is what I use to like in B&B. Him and Carmen would be good.
Harry Chappas
Sadly the way to beat B&B would me to get a personality in there like they had with Mac. CJH is unlistenable. Jurko adds credence to a show as he played the sport at the highest level and has some local flair as well. He can give you the real locker room stuff that a guy like Bernstein says is hyperbole because it can not be substantiated. The fighting in hockey discussion is the type of thing that turns me off to B&B as well as how the game of baseball is now about WAR and less about he actual game. Bernstein is trying to make the show more erudite than it should be. Boers adds nothing. ESPN oughta give North a shot with Jurko at least it is soemthing. I spend 2 plus hours a day commuting. I love Howard Stern.

I get in the car around 5PM, so it's usually either someone like Hub during football season, "Who ya crappin?" or random, absurd conversation Fridays. When they've got several good callers and are having a decent conversation, it's great. When Bernstein finds a particular point of view, even if someone's playing devil's advocate, to be dumb, it gets unbearable quickly.

Vote4Pedro
bernstein gets old very quickly, he thinks everyone is an idiot and if you do not agree with his theory then your a dumba** I enjoy listening to the WB Club on Saturday Mornings with Grote and Rosenbloom. They are pretty entertaining! I don't care for much on ESPN 1000 although Waddle and Silvy can be bearable at times.
