Its strange when you put those posts together, because 2/3 guys you mentioned are SS/FS. If the Bears had made the trade TB did, the Bears could have had James + 2 additional second rounders. Fitzpatrick was selected 1 pick before Tampa's and James was selected at 17. It seems like you are now changing the argument to the Bears should have never traded out of the first round, which is entirely different than what most people were suggesting which was to trade down a handful of picks in a draft where 4 of the top 10 players who were picked were never going to be selected by the Bears anyway. And of course everyone can "agree to disagree", but when you say "Is every fan base this disgusting? " in response to Bears fan who thought the Bears should do a Tampa style deal it doesnt leave a lot of room for reasonable people having reasonable differences. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but it is not statistically sound. Your basis is that you believe Smith is so much better than anyone else that the Bears could have taken, and that value could not be offset by other players. There is nothing wrong with that opinion, but dont insult the rest of us by trying to argue that its somehow based on statistics that dont exist.3 points

What about moving him to catcher? Then he can platoon with Narvaez against lefties and play CF when Engel needs a breather. Course that’s assuming Engel and Rutherford are building blocks and then you have to consider Robert. Maybe Micker leap frogs Eloy and solves the problem. You could always use Yolmer at SS til we sign a FA (maybe Arenado??). Assuming Abreu stops hitting and he’s traded for Archer before the decline you got yourself a pretty good 1-2-3 punch with Kopech coming up and good defense with Rutherford/Call as the super subs. It all hinges on Moncada.1 point

They most likely won't pick up option for White after the draft. Their depth for WR right now is basically a guy coming back from ACL injury and a 5'8" guy, then Fowler, Bellamy and Gentry. It wasn't too long ago when people are bashing the GM for not surrounding our QB with weapons. a 4th round pick is a small price to pay in this situation. I don't mind the trade at all.1 point

Hard to argue getting a guy who is rated by most as a 1st round talent and best at their position.1 point

It's not an "impossible standard" to refuse money from the private prison industry or other large companies that would create potential for conflicts of interest, nor to create or cosponsor legislation raising the minimum wage to a living wage and indexing it to inflation. So why has no Democrat done those things?1 point

No, people who appreciate stats tend to understand that they are part of a large picture, some stats are skewed because of the information that is used, and one stat doesnt define a player. You dont ever try and understand that1 point

You will have to change your log in information as the new board doesn't separate display name and log in name anymore, but there you go.1 point

From the Athletic, Jim Bowden on Basabe: Luis Alexander Basabe, CF, Chicago White Sox Age: 21 Winston Salem, Carolina League .339/.443/.627, 2 HR, 12 RBIs Basabe was part of the Chris Sale blockbuster trade with the Red Sox in December, 2016. He is a 4-tool player coming into the season with the only question being his “hit” tool. However, it looks like the bat is starting to arrive, as he’s off to an incredible start in A ball and if he keeps this up, he’ll be flying up prospect ranking boards because he can impact the game with his speed and glove. Rick Hahn, White Sox GM: “He played most of 2017 with a meniscus injury that was repaired late in the season. Now completely healthy. Early on he has displayed the intriguing combination of power, speed and defensive ability that our scouts thought so highly of at the time of the deal”.1 point

Wait are you telling me I got to watch a victory last night, with Moncada going crazy, and tonight I get to watch Reynaldo pitch? What are these fun things and why are they happening?1 point

That’s not necessarily true, or the A’s wouldn’t have had Ron Washington invest so much time with him. If Tim Anderson commits 35-40 errors this season, for example...would it also be reasonable to reach the same conclusion, as this is already his third big league season? Imo, if you possess the raw physical tools (Alexei Ramirez yet another example) and are making a combination of physical and mostly mental (concentration) errors...well, we’ve seen in the past how much influence Omar Vizquel had on him later on in his career, so I don’t see how anyone can be totally written off before they reach age 28 (even). Development is not linear, whether it’s offensively or defensively.1 point

If more than one starter comes from outside our organization it’s a massive fail. We’ve been through this but our rotation by mid season should be Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, & Fulmer. That’s three guys who were considered top 20 prospects at some point in time, one guy who was a top 40, and another who was a top 100. Not all these guys will pan out or remain healthy, but that’s where the next wave comes in. Hansen & Dunning, another pair of top 100 prospects, will be knocking at the door next season. And by 2020 another insanely talented prospect in Cease should pushing for a shot. Even with normal bust rates we’ll have a ton of options. And we’ll want to give those promising young arms a chance to actually develop in the majors. CaliSox is right that in terms of timing we may need to add a veteran to the mix to provide some certainty, but that will depend on how the first wave develops. If three of that Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, & Giolito group can hold down the top three spots in our rotation by 2020, we may not need to anything. Too early to say, but to suggest we’ll need to add two or three rotation arms from the outside is suggesting more than 50% of our elite arms bust and that none of our secondary arms (Fulmer, Adams, Stephens, Clarkin, etc) end up making it. And quite frankly, that’s an “all has gone wrong” assumption.1 point

You're trying to figure out how Democrats could stop taking money from the for-profit private prison industry, fight for a living wage, or have a platform that offers a clear alternative to GOP corruption? No wonder the Democrats can't win elections consistently.1 point

Used and abused at the point of attack? Is every fan base this disgusting? In 15 games last season he had 137 tackles, 14 TFL and 6.5 sacks. Not sure how much more production you’re looking for at 8th overall, but perhaps if the athletic OG was there at 8, we’d all be thrilled about the tiny impact he’s going to have in the NFL. He was absolutely the best player in the Georgia/OU game (and all of the other Georgia games). Every LB gets blocked. That’s what happens. Wasn’t that what Urlacher’s one issue was, getting off blocks? The Bears got maybe the best defensive player in the draft and dopes like Hub Arkush and the millions of moronic Bears fans all over the globe are complaining. Rough crowd. As for trading down, they’re second and third round picks? 15% of second rounders hit and 8% of third rounders pick, yet Pace wasn’t smart to stay at 8 rather than move down 5 spots to get a couple second rounders that will likely be either special teams gunners or on another team (or in another league) in 6 years.1 point

13 days into the season buys you the extra year of control. It isn't much. Like the previous poster said, at this point the bigger consideration is Super 2. All though I will say it should be a red flag that despite his peripherals, Kopech is only averaging just over 5 innings per start. When he gets to the majors where guys are even more disciplined, that will turn into 100 pitches in four innings.1 point

I think he's going to excel hitting lefty and righty. I think any concerns about Moncada should be relaxed. Greg uses the eye test and he passes it big time, folks. No need to discuss Moncada except in terms of how he does in a given game. He's a star obviously.0 points
