So on the first pitch Beck ever saw as a major league hitter, Ricky had a suicide squeeze on. What could possibly go wrong?2 points

Eloy and Mendick are the only batters not to K tonight. Suarez stuck out 11 in 4.1IP. Yikes, must have been filthy.1 point

I assume that you don't mean the Sox version of Laroche. 2017 Davidson surpassed that..1 point

Todd Cunningham was released from Charlotte with Rondon being sent back down. That leaves and active OF of Tilson, May, and Robbins. You could theoretically argue that RF has been opened for an Eloy promotion.1 point

Good post. I actually likened him to Nola a few pages back. Their numbers are actually shockingly similar in college. Especially the Junior year. I get it. I wouldn't hate it, I just wouldn't be all that excited.1 point

I understand why a lot of people wouldnt like that pick, but there is a lot I like about him personally. I've probably watched around the same amount of starts the last two years with him and there are some things that stick out to me: 1.) He gets a ton of movement on his fastball. That movement, along with his typical velocity, make that a well above average pitch to me. 2.) His slider, which is also an above average offering, plays really well off of his fastball. His pitch tunneling for these two pitches make it really hard to pick up what he's throwing. 3.) Long, proven track record in the best conference in America and dominance when he pitched in the Cape. 4.) He doesn't walk anybody. He's had 3 straight years at Florida of decreasing his walks and increasing his strikeouts. In a system full of guys that have a propensity for the free base, his profile is very attractive to me. 5.) He's going to be a fast mover. I think his profile is pretty similar to Aaron Nola's and I imagine their tracks to the majors will be pretty similar. Even if he doesnt break the majors with the Sox, that will be an attractive trade piece. On the other two pitchers, McClanahan is a big time no for me. The velo is sexy, but he's walking almost 5 per 9 and he already has one TJ under his belt. I'm not using the #4 pick on a pitcher with an injury history. As for Mize, I think he's far and away the best pitcher in this draft. His mix of stuff and command give him a treu ace ceiling. That said, in the times I've watched him, I've always thought it looks like he creates a lot of stress in his shoulder. He looks like someone that might have a couple good years, then never pitch again. That's my opinion, but not letting anyone besides the drafting team see his MRI seems like a red flag to me.1 point

How about the .375/.432/.750 slash line he put up in the 10 games prior to the game in which he got injured? Return to that, right?1 point

He literally left off being injured so I hope he picks up at right before he left off1 point

Act It also might interest you to know all 8 players were acquitted in a court of law . here's some pictures from that era in Sox baseball http://galleries.apps.chicagotribune.com/chi-130808-1919-black-sox-scandal-pictures/1 point

He's definitely a name to consider at 46. Other college arms I like at that spot: Kris Bubic (polished lefty, doesnt turn 21 until Aug, plus change, above average command) and Tim Cate (some health issues this season, his curve is about as nasty as it gets though, reliever risk). I wonder if the Sox can go India underslot in the first and make a play at getting De Sedas in the second. De Sedas hasnt had a great spring, but adding that type of potential with your first two picks would be pretty awesome. Edit: Blaine Knight would be an interesting pick at 46 too. Has the height to start, needs to add some weight to his frame, but routinely mid 90's with his fastball and has one of the highest spin rate breaking pitches in this class. I think he would need to be a quick mover though because he turns 22 in June.1 point

In 1919 it is alleged that several members of the White Sox took bribes from gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series, so that gamblers could bet on the winning team. They were nicknamed the "Black Sox" after this, and the players in question were banned from baseball. Caulfield's posting style usually involves listing everything remotely relevant, or not, on a subject. There was probably very little influence of a 1919 team on politics in the early 1990s when the most recent version of the casino legislation was passed. Pete Rose would have been a more recent memory, but if you go back to statements from 1991 what really drove it was a combination of lobbying from the major sports leagues who were trying to protect their business model from competition and religious opposition to gambling, which is still strong enough to prevent some states from opting in.1 point

Ozzie Guillen had charm as well as his "rare" displays of no class. Asked about Beckham changing his walk up song ... Ozzie was so damn funny. A genius. If you don't think this is hilarious you are just a grumpy person.1 point

Taking articles, parsing them and coming up with the most negative outcome based on what you see is not a most likely outcome. Read up on what they said about Chris Sale when he was drafted also known as the closer we drafted.1 point

PTATC when a player like Yoan screws up his hammy, is he more susceptible to do it a lot? I'm thinking Lorenzo Cain did it a lot in KC and Salvy Perez. Is Avi susceptible? Yoan?1 point

Moncada has now played 81 games with the White Sox. Half a season. These are his numbers... .246 AVG, 14 HR, 16 2B, 3 3B, 37 RBI, 7 SB, 43 BB, 121 K, .344 OBP, .797 OPS, 116 OPS+, 2.4 WAR Extrapolate those out to a full year, you're talking almost 30 HR, 86 walks, 32 doubles, 14 SB, and a 4.8 WAR. And mind you, all those numbers are trending UP. 2/3's of those rates are from 2017. He's been much better in 2018 in all regards, except strikeouts. He has a decent chance to beat those extrapolated numbers for his 2018 season, and that won't be 162 games either, probably around 145-150.1 point

Seems a lot like Fulmer...in the sense that he is/was a dominant Top 5-10 program collegiate starter whose stuff might not translate well to the majors (as a starter), at least the current version. There's a pretty significant difference between 92-94 (like Fulmer) and "averaging" 94-97, more like a Reynaldo Lopez. There haven't been MANY occasions when we ended up with pitcher throwing harder (later on) than softer. Erik Johnson is another guy that comes to mind right away, whose stuff seemingly eroded over time for no obvious or physically apparent reason.0 points
