  5. That's a lot of words to defend dehumanizing language from a man who has spent years attacking immigrants and then defending Nazis.

  6. Yeah you're right. They should have just turned it into an unofficial sequel to that franchise with completely different characters and backstory.

  9. The alt right was explicitly about white supremacy and creating ethnostates when Richard Spencer coined the term as the softer, gentler face of his Nazi politics. There is no parallel "alt left" where that happened. There are a wide variety of liberals and leftists with big differences in politics, but there is no "alt left". There isn't an equivalent mirror for every term or group.

  10. Considering I (and probably most on this board) thought he was organizational filler about a year ago, I'd count that as a huge and unexpected success, and a big shot in the arm of the rebuild.

  16. Leury's a nice little player. There was a point in time when we had Semien, Saladino, Micah Johnson, Leury, and Yolmer in the minors and it sure felt at the time like we had an embarrassment of riches when it came to high-floor, low-ish ceiling versatile infielders. Turns out we were mostly right. I think we'd be happy to have kept Semien in the system, but getting some value for Micah when we could was impressive and Saladino's age and possibly health ended up making him expendable.

  17. Got a job working for the Abby Finkenauer campaign in IA-01, taking on Rod "Most Vulnerable Incumbent" Blum. Start in a couple weeks. It'll be fun to spend a few months back home for the first time in a decade while working on one of the most flippable races in the country!

  19. You actually ripped him this year despite being a significantly better player because his batting average was real low. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

  20. This is cool that the advanced stats favor Matt D. Cause my eye test actually saw a better hitter last year. He's been a bit TOO successful this year against just one team. Not complaining though cause the stat people are now loving Davidson which is fine by me, a professed Davidson lover via the old metrics.

  22. Anyone who thought that this was going to be a competitive year was fooling themselves. Giolito is going to need time, guys over 6'5 tend to struggle with their control early in their careers due to a tendency to drift due to their length which makes it difficult to repeat their delivery. Its not insurmountable, it just takes time to work through. Fulmer is probably not going to make it as a SP, but thats not new news. Shields and MiGo are filler that can provide some leadership for the team, but not a lot of ability at this point in their careers. Offensively, they probably have 2 guys that will be everyday players on the roster in two years, the rest will be gone and replaced with guys in the system or FA's. Yes, the record is not great, but there was no reason to think it would be given the lack of quality players on the roster.

  23. I've been hoping for .850 ish, but no this is not an "unbelievable turnaround" if you count all the guys we have who might have turned into something. I had a list of like 10 this offseason, Davidson included, and I kept saying "if we get 2 or 3 big leaguers out of these guys then we've done a great job". Giving guys who have talent but who have early career struggles the time they need to break out is why it was important that we play the kids this year and take our lumps. Some of these guys were going to turn into big leaguers eventually.

  24. I will never own a gun. That's my choice. That said; I will never say as an absolute that no one should own guns. There are parts of this country where guns are important for personal protection; such as for rural home owners. And, they can be a tool to be used by a farmer/business owner to protect their livelihoods. My issue has always been that there are areas in this country where people believe that they should own guns (via 2nd amendment interpretation), but really are never going to need them. Those guns can put people (especially children) at risk of accidental death or injury because the owners of them are not responsible. They don't make the effort to keep others safe by having their guns safely stored and by being up to date on their ability to shoot those guns.
