  2. yes we have a wonderful see-saw of "competent MLB hitters/worst defenders of all time" or "competent mlb defenders/worse hitters of all time",

  3. Nope. Nobody will ever have to hear/read greg's opinions on the pick. Who'd we take in round two?

  4. He's got what? 1.5 years in the minors at the least? So 2020 at the earliest? Let him, Burger and whoever else play down at the minors for 1.5 years and meanwhile we'll have a pretty clear picture by then of what exactly Anderson is and will be as well as Moncada. Outside of Burger all the guys can play other positions pretty easily. So if that means Madrigal 2b or ss... Anderson at ss, 3b, or OF, and moncada at 2b or 3b so be it. We'll figure it out. At the very worst (best) you have what the Cubs have -- you have Zobrist, Baez, Happ, Russell, Bryant, etc. all moving in and out of the infield and LF, etc. I mean look at the Brewers this year -- people were like where you going to play Santana, Braun, Yelich, Thames, etc. etc. and Counsell just said there will be injuries that happen and off days etc. And guess what? It happened exactly like that. Also people like Santana all of a sudden have an off year after a great year last year. I don't have a problem at all. Let it all play out. At the worst you have some guys DH, play LF, CF, etc for a day or two a week. There are enough AB's to go around.

  5. Would love to see McClanahan fall to our second pick for similar reasons as Hansen..

  6. So can they let KW out of the broom closet now or should they wait until the end of the draft just to be safe?

  7. LMAO, I can't believe they posted that. You're welcome. ???

  10. Thank goodness league giving that poor St. Louis org a leg up soon.

  11. I get why they want it to be a spectical but man do I miss the conference call, the entire draft would be over by the end of the work day. I just wish the coverage was better because it's currently shit. There's nothing interesting about any of this except for the actual selections.

  12. Actually, Madrigal will crouch right in front of the batter to get the fastest reads.

  13. Greg says Madrigal to SS and TA to catcher.

  16. If Liberatore somehow falls to us in the 2nd round, I will personally buy every Sox fan in here a beer during a sox game this year... you can bet Greg's house on that.

  17. I predict she’ll ask a player: “you were drafted by the blue jays. The league also has cardinals and orioles. What is your favorite bird?”

  18. Posted before, but Fangraphs would have Nick Madrigal as the 35th best prospect in an updated top 100 minor league prospects.

  19. Holy fuck yes!! Thank the love of god they drafted Madrigal! It appears that the Singer stuff was misdirection. Either way, we got our guy and that’s all that matters! Now take the best HS prospect available at #46 and call this day a huge win!

  20. Fuck yea. Now grab me a Griffin Roberts at 46. Get some possible mid rotation starter depth.

  21. Surprisingly, only once. But that's just because it got him so pumped up that he spiked his smartphone into the pavement.

  22. Madrigal seems like a guy who could be a rock solid starter on a good team batting first or second and setting the table for Eloy.

  23. Think the Sox have any interest in India @ #4? I know he's tough to judge because of his amazing 2018 out of nowhere, but I just get the feeling we may regret passing on him.

  24. I really think we should curb all Heimlich talk until he’s actually selected or the draft ends without him being picked. There should be plenty to talk about tonight and we don’t need to rehash the same old arguments until then. And I say this as someone who derailed the last thread talking about it, so please don’t take my comments as a personal dig against those who brought him up.

  25. Super, super long shot.. but go Liberatore! ?

  26. If he could play even a high school level OF, there would be a lot of excitement about him. The problem is he is probably the worst OF I have seen in my lifetime, at least since Ivan Calderon.

  27. When the talent available all falls in the same "tier," I think choosing a hitter is the objectively correct choice. Pitchers simply have more that can go wrong with their health. Among the hitters, I think the Hit tool is the rarest, most difficult to develop, and the one the White Sox have shown the least ability to develop. Therefore it is most coveted, IMO. The clear answer then becomes Madrigal.

  28. Madrigal/India/Bohm, gimme 1 of those guys and we're good.

  29. I would add to that they are also well paid to fo that. But that is in fantasy land. In the real world, some players bust their butts every game but many don't. As announcers often say, players take plays or even games off. It is human nature. But that is what most workers in their everyday job do also. Every time you buy something that is defective, most likely someone took that "play" off.

  30. It's not just the draft pick though (unlike basketball). A lot of the tanking is unloading solid to good contributors for minor league assets. If not for this, the Sox would be incredible screwed.

  31. I don't think he has any of the instinct needed to play the OF. As you mentioned he's possibly the worst OF to ever start a MLB game. I'm not sure how many reps with fungoes can help now. Presumably he's been taking a lot of fungoes in his pro career. Try him at 1B, he can't possibly be worse than the OF, can he?

  32. https://theloopsports.com/2018/06/04/white-sox-scouting-report-joey-bart/ I still take Madrigal unless Mize surprisingly falls, but it would be interesting if Bart is there at 4. I wouldn’t be mad if that was the selection.

  35. I think with the stat revolution fans are much more clued into service time and where the farm is at. It used to be if you weren't in the major leagues no fan had heard of you. Now? Pretty much every serious white sox fan knows who Eloy , Robert, and Kopech are. Honestly, this is a good thing because good GM's get the credit and GM's who raid the farm for shortterm gain are exposed.

  36. It's different game today. Fans accept losing and strikeouts and pitchers to throw as hard so they leave earlier in games. Fans used to expect the FO to draft well so they don't have to go through a rebuild and losing. Now they lose on purpose to make their job easier.

  39. I’m against wasting our financial resources on moderate upgrades when we’re not ready to win. I fully supported the Castillo signing because we had a massive gap at catcher in our organization. Signing Moustakas to block Yolmer or picking Shields’ option to block Jordan Stephens would be very stupid at this stage of the rebuild IMO. When the time is right, hopefully by 2020, I fully expect $120M+ payrolls. And yes, I’d rather spend my money on young, impact free agents rather than the next Melky Cabrera & Adam LaRoche. But I’m not against rolling the dice on certain 30+ year old free agents and have been one of the loudest advocates for extending Abreu despite his age.

  40. The Athletic had an article on this recently and the minor league catching coordinator didn’t give exactly the most glowing review. Said he was still a work in process but had made some strides as of late. Specifically mentioned game calling and receiving balls low in the zone as areas of opportunity. He did say Zavala’s defensive game had progressed nicely. I think post draft they’ll bump up Zavala to AAA so each kid can get more work behind the plate.

  46. And look where it fucking got us. Honestly, open your fucking eyes or shut the fuck up, because you can’t have it both ways. We were mired in mediocrity while going for it and had a bottom five farm system to boot. If we did not rebuild when we did, we’d probably be looking at a 5 to 10 year rebuild in the near future just to become decent again. If all goes right now, we should be a legit World Series contender within three years. So if you aren’t on your death bed, for the love of god stop your fucking whining and give this rebuild a chance to actually work. And shame on me for wasting two minutes of my life responding to your ignorant, attention seeking ass.
