All 30 MLB teams are taking turns in a predetermined order selecting players from high school and college teams who they will then put on their minor league teams in hopes that someday they will be players who contribute to the 25 man major league roster.3 points

I agree with the consensus it’s mental. No way that guy could pass a sobriety test. Tell him to walk a straight line and he’ll end up with one foot on its tip toes and the other behind his ears.2 points

You want some W's? Here are some to describe this post. Worthless. Waste of my time. Wrong. Wilfully ignorant. Without merit. Whack. Wacko. Wreaking havoc on Soxtalk. Wholly devoid of intelligence.2 points

I'd have a really hard time rooting for a wife beater or a child molester. Have to draw the line there and agree with DA on this one.2 points

This, along with the quote from madrigal that he'd play anywhere including picking up an outfield glove (no word on catching mitt), is why I wanted Madrigal and was not deterred by the defensively limited stuff. It's not only his instincts and speed being plus, it's his baseball IQ and attitude make him prime to be the guy that plays anywhere and is a spark plug. I am SO excited for him. Hope he doesn't fail, then it will prove once more I don't know anything.2 points

Everyone get their concerns out right now because when you get to watch him play you will love him. You'll be saying so this is how a baseball player is supposed to play the game. The game may have devolved into behemoths saying "ugh, me swing hard, smash ball "but at it's core are guys like Madrigal who lead by example and do all the little things that make the game so enjoyable. No pun intended.1 point

Count me in as a Twins hater too. Hard not to hate them when you're a Sox fan.1 point

This season I don't care if they lose every other series, just beat the fucking shit out of the Twins. Pound them into oblivion.1 point

Good enough. Still not much swing-and-miss stuff but he didn’t walk the entire lineup or groove a bunch of heaters1 point

Good job pulling him after the inning ended. Let's him go out with confidence.1 point

I'm with you there Caulfield, at some point "learning how to pitch" turns into "he just kinda sucks now". That said, might as well keep trotting him out there. If he sucks it helps the tank, it he's great, it helps the rebuild. It's not like Kopech is pushing for a promotion with his performance anyways.1 point

Yes. I think that the Sox, Coop and Giolito himself know the stuff that made him the top pitching prospect in baseball is still there, it is going to take some time for it to be unleashed, If they didn't think that guy still existed I think he'd have been sent to Charlotte long ago.1 point

It’s 100% that Lucas giolito forgets how to operate his body like every 20 minutes.1 point

Funny thing is he will say we didn't draft a superstar, but if ones says Mize is one, then hoping the Sox would have lost a few more games last year would have made him happy.1 point

I didn't know it was possible to pitch in 2018 and strike out NO ONE.1 point

I hate discussions of a player's weakness when it is shrugged off by saying other players make up for that. Other players IMO have nothing to do with Madrigal. Judge him on his own skill set. It's silly to say he has an absence of power (a negative) and shrug it off by saying we'll have other players supply the power. Who cares about that? Heaven forbid the other guys get injured or something. If Madrigal's lack of power is a problem it's a problem.1 point

So where is this "lights out" off speed stuff? I see a guy with a shit fastball, no command, little control, and a flat breaking ball and a shit changeup. If you were scouting this guy on the Juco fields you'd think "huh, might be a nice 10th rounder". Seems like a mental midget as well.1 point

I'm surprised people are so upset about this. Great tank result. Moncada was 2-5 with a HR, Lopez went 7 shutout innings, and a player who likely won't be here in 2020 gave up the game and moved the Sox closer to #1 overall in 2019.1 point

look man I don't get on you much but you do this constantly and it's just really poor etiquette and lack of respect for everybody else that posts here: READ THE FUCKING THREAD YOU ARE POSTING IN. How about you just like/thanks the four or so posts before you that mentioned the same thing?1 point

Sox need to embrace the new loft philosophy and throw more high fastball and slow, low curves.1 point

I've posted in probably 40 game threads this year and never been upset at a single loss. I think I'm entitled to have ONE moment. Especially when I bet on the Sox today. So, nah. I'm here for this game and the next.1 point

The minor league system needs an infusion of young talent that won't be ready until the middle to end of the current contention window, so that hopefully, they can extend that contention window.1 point

I'm not sure you can save enough at this point to make any real difference, especially on a junior. I would like to see the Sox grab Tyler Cropley from Iowa, tough kid that has played up to every level he has been in.1 point

I love the draft strategy so far. They went with pure baseball players with some upside in the first 3 rounds, then switched to loud tooled athletes who have played some baseball in the next few rounds. Round this off with some decent potential college seniors, then grab some signability concern loud talent tomorrow, and this will be one hell of a draft.1 point
-
I actually like this pick. Obviously the secondaries aren't good right now, but at least he's got some velocity and theoretically some upside.1 point
-
He won't. But as long as the power comes from elsewhere on the field, I don't think it will be an issue when you look at his OBP skills.1 point

One of my issues is this: the baseball world has seemingly rallied against Heimlich and his actions, which is something I understand. Yet people have no problem idolizing Aroldis Chapman. Sure, many do not support him, but he's still an MLB poster child, and official MLB accounts always post videos of his fast pitches and his highlights. To me, that's extremely hypocritical. I know their circumstances are different, but they're both seemingly awful human beings1 point

He has talked as well as his parents. He was 15, he adamantly denied ever doing anything wrong. His father was in a custody battle. His family and his lawyer convinced him to take a deal that would erase it from his record in 5 years. If he went to trial and lost his father potentially would have lost custody of his other children. Throughout the entire time he has always stated he was innocent. But in order to get the deal he was forced to write a letter as if he committed the crime. He has taken a ploygraph and the results determined he was telling the truth when he denied any sexual contact. Its a messed up situation for a 15 year old to be in. Especially when your lawyer tells you that even if your innocent a jury will likely believe the child.1 point

I have no idea who to expect. I mean there are certain franchises you know that will stretch for players, but they aren't as well known in MLB. This seems like a Cincinnati Bengals or Raiders type of pick.1 point

He would look great there, but thanks to the hard slotting system, we can't offer high upside HS guys enough to buy them out of going to college. It's the same problem everyone faces, essentially unless you have a ton of compensation/comp balance picks to play with.1 point

In hindsight Madrigal was probably their pick all along, Right before the draft we got that interview on whitesox.com saying Timmy will play anywhere and then Madrigal is announced as a SS. Not saying Timmy moves or Madrigal has what it takes to be a SS just that the emphasis now will be towards a more versatile group of guys to make the transition easily for w/e transpires. Love all the speed the Sox have also . Add Madrigal to a list that is Tim, Moncada, hopefully Robert. Lots of speed there to be driven in by Eloy and company. The new Go Go White Sox (even heard a Nellie Fox comp for Madrigal regarding how rarely he strikes out.)1 point
