  5. Yes they do. You can attach accelerometers to the limb. There gave been many studies using these while studying mechanical stress and loads on the joints. As far as the elbow is concerned, there is enough stress on it during a normal correct pitch to rupture the ligament. The flexor muscle mass is what adds extra strength to keep it together. This is why the flexor strains are important to watch. It could allow to much stress on the ligament to cause injury. I haven't seen the device you mention here. However, anything out of ASMI and Fleisig is done very well. In the world of throwing and sports medicine research he is at the top of the food chain.

  8. I wouldn’t be ok with Rowand or A.J. If only we could get Hahn to admit Omar is being groomed for the next manager’s job.

  9. Ideal situation would be Vizquel getting the manager job. Have him progress in the minors right along with the young guys. They’ll grow with Omar, Omar will grow with them.

  18. Perhaps not, but I can see him at least being competent. I don't know who else in our system would be better suited (not including guys like Robert who are good enough to play other positions, or a meh prospect like Gillaspie)

  19. He's 54th in fWAR among qualified pitchers and is 24, relax. It would be nice if his 1B could field as well as his RF.

  20. I am going to say $6 million on the $6.4+ million slot. If he was an at slot number, I think the other picks would have signed already because there is no savings to worry about.

  21. With a below average fastball spin rate, and almost non-existent secondary stuff, I'm not sure he's anything more that AAAA fodder to be honest. I have more faith in Giolito and Dunning than him. Giolito was a project and we knew that, we might be about to get the payoff on that one. If they can flip him for a hitter or other prospects this TDL I wouldn't have a problem with it in the least. try to get someone to buy fools gold.

  26. xFIP sucks. It's no better than FIP for predictive power and in some cases is even worse than ERA it appears, or it's about as good either way. I used to love xFIP but the adjustment for HR "luck" somehow actually makes it worse than FIP. By FIP, Lopez is a solid 4th starter. That's not bad given where he's at in his career.

  30. All kidding aside I would be elated with Vizquel as manager and Jirschele as his bench coach. I think both would do a great job with relating to the youth. Would like to see AJ next to Stone in the booth calling games.

  31. Normally I'd be excited about dealing a body-blow to the Cubs, but I loved watching Jose pitch so much when he was with us that I'm much more sad to see him falling flat than I am anything else. Dude pitched his tail off for us and we did jack squat to support him, he deserved a shot to be appreciated and win games on a good team.

  32. 1. If a restaurant in Austin wanted to make a policy of No Aggies eating there...more power too 'em, I kinda like those rivalries. 2. Let's just go with yesterday arguing that "“Just because you don’t see a judge doesn’t mean you aren’t receiving due process" as a way to justify the president's support for an illegal policy of kicking people out of the country without any right to a hearing. 3. One of the lessons of the past few years in my eyes is that allowing these ideas to fester inside the Republican party, that not challenging them, that treating "birtherism" and "white nationalism" and now the "incel" movement, that has allowed them to grow and take over the entire country. We gave those movements space, expecting them to flame out, but with a little support from a foreign country, they exploded, and now supporting prominent neo-nazis is a thing that happens regularly from congresspeople and the President. Treating white nationalism like it was just another political movement, that it was still respectable, helped us get here.

  35. I'm glad to see the game going back to the pitcher. I think the roids era did a lot to hurt the purity of baseball. You see a lot of players that are fundamentally weak. Being a catcher is not a glamorous position. Some use to be household names in the 70's. Baseball is like golf. You either like it or you don't. I do think it's a generational thing. I remember in high school a teacher would put on the spring training games on the radio. Professional sports are not as accessible like they use to. You got to have cable or a paid program to listen on the radio if you are in a different region. I'm not sure modifying how the game is played is going to keep a traditionalist. They start the season in March and most parts of the country that doesn't help attendance. The NFL no longer interests me. That is a sport were the talent is regressing. Way too many 1t round flops. Plus it was a form of entertainment that is now politicized. ESPN/Fox I think has done more to ruin professional sports. It's littered with former players who have to reflect on their career or just plain stupid how their sport has evolved. Terry Bradshaw is perfect example. It's an era of the salary cap and the coach is not as near as important as the players. At one time sports was in the hands of journalists or announcers and that made it more interesting. Announcing is a talent. I learned to appreciate Hawk after hearing Berman do the 2005 post season vs. the Red Sox. I never could get into the NBA. Just watch the last 5 minutes. The NHL, I'm getting more into that. I think the interest of professional sports is declining because there is more competition for entertainment. It's pricing is also a weakness. Why go to a game when you can buy the latest Call of Duty release and be entertained longer. With the digital format the music industry would lose to the movie industry. You see few kids into sports these days. That may have to do with parenting.

  37. Funny that articles are being written about a guy that was overlooked for 2 stellar months in Charlotte before someone removed their head from their ass and got him up here. The purpose signing him was to prove he can still pitch, and be flipped if he succeeded. Can’t wait for the “Gomez comes out of nowhere” article in August.

  39. Wouldn’t it be easier to start following the team again in 2020 or 2021? If you’re going to continue to obsess over the status of the rebuild or draft picks that you usually don’t care to follow on a daily basis in the minor leagues, why bother to get upset at all? Isn’t it better to simply wait for a competitive team, Hahn/KW to get fired or the team to be sold? I mean...if it bothers you this much, is it healthy for you or beneficial to be a Sox fan at this exact moment in time? It’s not like there are any guarantees in life, other than Mike Trout. For example, look at the stat lines of Harper and Machado the last 6 weeks, these are players that are both going to receive at least $250-300 million, if not more. If the Sox ended up with one of them and they busted, then what?
