  1. Brutal. It begs the question: Do we not have our coaches on proper strength and weight training programs? These types of injuries should not happen. And of course it’s one of the top 5 coaches in our system. We may get lucky with some under the radar coaches moving forward, but if we want this rebuild to be successful, we need at least one or two of our highly touted coaches to stay healthy and succeed. Just look at the Cubs and Astros...they knew exactly how to keep their coaches healthy. We should not be subjected to another losing season next year, but these injuries really have me scratching my head.

  2. Anyone in the Democratic party that votes for this guy should face a primary challenger.

  3. This type of complaint is exactly how one party has been able to drag itself all the way to the point of being run by Donald Trump; even when one person is clearly lying or clearly wrong, centrists always have to declare that there is a problem on both sides. You speak of Senators being so tied to money that they care very little for re-election, but you also bash Democrats even though the situation was made worse by the 5-4 Citizens United decision authored by Republicans, and even though the Democrats tried proposing things like the Disclose Act requiring disclosure of who was paying outside campaign groups and were blocked unanimously by a Republican filibuster. So, unless Democrats totally stop fighting for money and give the Republicans a huge advantage in elections, they get labeled as scumbags for playing on the field the Republicans constructed. This is how they use centrists to drag everyone into the hole with them, and the end result is that no matter what the next thing the Republicans do is, whether it's accepting criminal aid from a foreign country or stealing a Supreme Court seat, the Democrats have to be labeled as scumbags also. They could be honorable people and lose elections they can't compete in financially, or play on the other team's field and get labeled as scumbags and lose elections.

  4. The Republicans come up with a rule to make sure Obama can't appoint a judge, the Republicans rescind that rule once Trump is in office, they get the Supreme Court seat and will use that to overturn one of the biggest decisions of the last 50 years, but we still need to include Democrats in the list of scumbags because that wouldn't be fair to blame only Republicans for things that Republicans did. After all, balance.

  5. How about we sign the guy instead of giving away a potential franchise player?!?!?!?!
    2 points
  6. If you have 4 guys who are legitimate top 10 prospects and none of them become stars then you have done something seriously, systematically wrong. Hell, if you count Rodon, this franchise could have 5 of them. If Gio busts, fine, but if you have Giolito, Rodon, Jiminez, Moncada, and Kopech, all of whom have gotten into the top 10 of prospect lists, and you don't wind up with like 8-10 all star appearances and a few top 10 MVP finishes amongst the group before guys are hitting free agency, then there is something seriously wrong with your development or your scouting because you managed to somehow specifically select the guys who were going to flop. That doesn't happen by accident.

  8. I mean the Rockies GM did give Ian Desmond 5/70 and give 3 pen arms a combined 106M this offseason, so he totally knows what he's doing.

  9. Going to add one more post here. Between Baseball America and MLB Pipeline, we now know bonuses on all players signed. So I did some math and put the final numbers near the top of the Tracker here, in case you want to reference that. The player bonuses are all updated too. Good for later use if needed. Here's a fun stat - our back end at FutureSox keeps track of how many times you revise a live article. Our Tracker had 134 revisions this year.

  10. I would make the trade in a heartbeat. I would throw Giolito, Fulmer AND Rick Hahn in the deal. I would take the Rockies GM in return for Hahn. This would be a first in MLB history, two GMs traded for each other. In 1960 Cleveland and Detroit traded managers for the first and only time in MLB history.

  11. Ah yes, the board's self-proclaimed "independent" voter who spends 99.9999% of her time s*****g on anything remotely left of center and defends everything alt-right, conservative, and right wing.

  12. Well yeah, you explicitly did. We nominated a person, a person that even Republicans said was too moderate for Obama to nominate, you literally said we will not confirm him or vote for him even though he would have passed his nomination, and then tossed that same rule away this time. That literally happened.

  14. If the big name guys flame out, the rebuild will almost certainly fail regardless of how the low to mid-level guys do (not saying Cease isn't high-level). Reason being almost all teams have guys like Rivera or Hamilton or Basabe. To be a contender, you need difference makers and that's what Yoan, Eloy and Kopech need to be.

  15. I guess I don't consider myself a "centrist", but whatever label you want to use, go ahead. Don't care. But if you really think corruption of any kind is somehow only notably present in one party or the other, you are just not willing to see fact. Right now, today, I have a lot more anger towards the GOP than the Democrats, because the GOP elected the most unqualified moron that either party has even run out for election in modern times. I think I've made that clear, but your focus is now, and always, always, always is, to take offense at the idea that your "side" also has issues. Not the same issues, not necessarily to the same extent in some areas (but maybe others), but still some major issues. This is just reality.

  16. Imagining a better health care system, less defense spending, a more affordable higher education system, a safer/cleaner environment, more protections for workers/wage fairness, job training/vocational tech spending....better infrastructure...and regulations to protect us from investment banks becoming too big to fail. Crazy socialists/commies! We should just follow that wise sage, Rep. King of Iowa.

  17. It should be noted that the last examples of teams actually doing these kinds of deals with a negotiating window come from what, a decade ago now?

  18. Ever watch a Maxine Waters, elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders speak man? Just a few examples, but that’s some scary ass shit right there. That is the opposite of human progress right? Like a person can’t listen to that stuff and think this is good. Or that democratic socialist that won. Holy crap that is scary stuff. One only has to examine the simplest of economics to realize how stupid that is, and how that would brutally hurt 100s of millions of people. But people support it over some social issues that get better every year

  19. lol, I don't care about "balance", I am just aware enough of how this works to know that most of the people in the Senate in each party are so tied to money and re-election that they care very little for what is best for the country. If you don't want to face that reality because you are busy rooting for Team Blue, I can't help you. I think I've made quite clear that the Garland mess was on McConnell and the GOP, and that it was sleezy, Unamerican, and one of the most cynically partisan mistakes made in US government in decades. I blame who is to blame.

  20. Dude, you are the one who said that you are happy with this because "a lot of bad people will be angered by it." Just as an easy example, Kennedy was the deciding vote in Obergfell, which said that the Constitution protected gay marriage. The vote was 5-4. If Kavanaugh is more conservative than Kennedy (definitely the case based on his time at the DC Circuit), it is reasonable to conclude that gay rights at SCOTUS could be negatively impacted by the confirmation of Kavanaugh. Without specifying what bad people you are so glad this appointment will troll, you seem to be flat out ignoring the fact that SCOTUS decisions make a tangible impact on actual people's lives...

  22. You are correct that in 2017 the White Sox were in the upper 1/2 of the league in time missed on the disabled list (right around 12th) - guys like Rodon and Putnam and Jones made a big difference there. However, in 2016 they were just right around League Average and in the years prior to that, they were the healthiest team in the league. From 2010-2017 they are either 29th or 30th for most days spent on the disabled list. When your team is used to unbelievable health, "nearly average health" seems like an anomaly. We have seen nothing at all like the Dodgers or the Rangers, and those teams are far better than us.

  23. Just remember, at the big league level, we're still in the bottom 1/3 of the league for time spent on the disabled list. When you're planning your roster for the future, you should expect as much as 2x this amount of time on the disabled list for your competitive team.

  24. While it's not a no-brainer, I think I would make the trade. To me, it's about asset allocation instead of pure asset accumulation. With good options already in place at SS and 2B, I'll cash in Moncada's value and take the elite 3B, which I don't think the Sox will be able to find through other avenues. Of course, the whole thing could backfire if Madrigal flops or Arenado craters in the AL, so it's still risky. But I think it would be worth the risk.

  25. Regardless of credentials, I agree with the other posters who have said that the Senate has established a precedent that should be followed. No nominee should be confirmed until after the election. And yes, no matter what your party affiliation is or isn't, the reality is that the Senate GOP pretty much stole the Gorsuch seat by setting a new precedent that never before existed in order to win one for their "team". But now that it's the rule, it's the rule.

  27. You mean there is an actual reason not to hustle 100% of the time ? Don't you know that hustle is the calling card of Mr. Renteria and nothing is as important especially the health of 2 guys who you might want to trade ? Does anyone in Sox management ever think or possibly speak to our manager about such things ?
    1 point
  28. No way. I despise any trade where you give up a cost controlled potential superstar just for a highly unlikely chance of extending a guy. It's the one thing I repeatedly see on here that makes little sense. It didn't work for Samardzija. It was repeatedly talked about for Machado and you'd think we all know how unlikely that is but continue to see it time and time again as if the Sox are some kind of great negotiators who can somehow convince an impending free agent not to see what the open market has to offer. Give me a break.

  30. Compare it straight up. Moncada + Machado or Arenado and a 2nd round pick (lost for signing Machado) + about $50 million. Which is better for the White Sox? I'll take the former.
    1 point
  31. Does it give you a better opportunity to succeed though? The whole point of rebuilding is to gather the young cost-controlled players so you can spend money to fix the remaining problems. Here you are spending big money and losing a talented cost-controlled player, when you can go with option C of keeping Moncada and signing a big-name free agent.

  33. I hope the people clamoring for Machado realize that Tim Anderson is a better defensive shortstop than Machado.
    1 point
  34. I agree Timmy won't be moved off of SS and shouldn't be. But if he was moved, with his speed and athleticism he would fare much better in the outfield than he would at catcher. Squatting for 9 innings takes its toll on catcher's knees and that would hurt Tim's speed which is a part of his game.

  35. I can't wait for him. Obviously, when someone's sporting the best walk rate in the minors, the MLB philosophy would be "just throw him strikes". Then, bam, with his power and the juiced ball, watch him hit 30 bombs. He's gonna be a stud. I think he can even be a .235/.320/.440 guy right away, with gradual improvement

  38. Seeing how Carter Stewart didn’t sign with the Braves, and plans on going to a JUCO in Florida, he’ll be eligible for 2019 draft. If Rutschman goes before us, Stewart is someone I think should be high on our list.
