It's funny, this is the exact game that those people that think Sox fans just want to lose games actually want to see - guys we need to count on moving forward out there performing. This was one of the more meaningful games of the year based solely on Yoan and Lucas.5 points

Not bad: the power is there in the youngster, hopefully the rest continues to improve. You have to think it will given his youth and obvious ability.2 points

I still have a lot of hopes for Moncada/Kopech and despite Giolito's struggles - Lopez has looked promising. However, THIS is certainly the deal that is panning out in the most desirable way to this point. I suppose anything can happen once Cease/Eloy reach the majors, but they look very good. Hard for me to envision Eloy busting. Guy smashes wherever he goes.2 points

Another question that is being answered now is why the Red Sox we’re willing to let go of the #1 prospect in baseball instead of Benitendi.2 points

Cubs fans are already calling it a loss for them on other boards (although they're already calling the Sale trade/Moncada a bust too from all accounts).2 points

The other player has been battling an injury while winning the CWS. This may be the all-time record for least amount of time prior to hitting the panic button on a prospect.1 point

Knock on wood, but even his walks have been pretty close. I know we try to forget, but when he was walking guys earlier in the year, he literally was missing by feet and not inches.1 point

Giolito has actually been pretty damn great in 4 of his last 5 starts.1 point

Nice dominating performance, granted it was against the putrid Royals but this leaves a great taste in everyone's mouths especially the players heading into the break. Well done! Nice to see Giolito and Moncada perform well. Every little bit helps their confidence.1 point

So it might be best to not jump to conclusions based on every hot or cold streak? Deal. You first.1 point

Yoan with the .741 OPS now. Not bad for your 23 year old 2nd baseman who a lot of you guys spent the season dragging through the mud.1 point

Semien was moved because the Sox chose Anderson, not because they couldn't find a position. Marcus Semien never spent a day in the A's farm system, as far as I know. Your definition of development is pretty disingenuous too. At least you're consistent.1 point

We've also drafted and developed some guys that have had good careers with other teams ie Chris Carter, Chris Young, Semien, Phegley etc. I'm not defending the development team, but to say they've only produced Rowand is just wrong.1 point

The way I see it is that Narvaez still has some serious issues receiving the ball that weren't present last year and I just don't know why. I don't mean pitch framing per se (neither catcher is very good there) but just keeping low pitches in front of him and hanging onto borderline wild pitches. Neither Omar nor Kevan throws well so that won't help decisionmaking. That being said, I do think there's enough daylight between Omar and Kevan at the plate that I'd prefer Omar. The platoon issue with Castillo helps Omar's case as does Omar's age, which might give some more hope for projection.1 point

You forget about Basabe leading off the Futures Game with a HR.1 point

Moncada is leading off the 6th with another home run. Eloy is going yard twice for Charlotte today. Bet the house.1 point

Obviously I don’t want to get too excited here, but today is a great example of how development isn’t linear. These aren’t just good games, Yoan & Giolito actually look significantly better. I’m sure playing the Royals helps to some extent, but with young players it can all just suddenly click. Hopefully we’re seeing the beginning of consistent above average play from both of them.1 point

Hardly a mandate? A 12% margin of victory is considered a landslide in politics. For perspective, the last president to win a presidential election by 12% or more won the electoral vote 525-13. 12% is about as close to a mandate as you'll get in the political world.1 point

Uhh, Blum's "technology expertise" isn't an asset. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2018/02/21/rod-blum-didnt-disclose-he-director-internet-company-which-posted-testimonial-his-current-chief-staf/359391002/1 point

I don't think the general public is aware of the significance of crypto-mining which processes these transactions for a % of the transaction. It requires massive extreme pc hardware which has made it difficult for gamers to acquire quality video cards at affordable prices. In Iceland crypto-miners are using as much electric as their entire residential customer base. It is quite a mysterious yet massive private industry.1 point

Obviously a .344 winning % is bad, but is this season worse than 2013 when they were trying to be competitive and it was .389?1 point

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/14/opinions/trump-white-house-drama-emmy-nomination-opinion-zelizer/index.html Say what you will, but Ocasio-Cortez is one of the few Dems with any oxygen right now. Same with Sanders, and Warren to a slightly lesser extent. Other than Joe Biden, what legit centrist/globalist/neoliberal candidate is out there with enough star power to actually counter Trump? You also realize that you’re painting those pushing for progressive policies as the moral equivalents of left wing neo-Nazis...or anti-Rabbits. That’s a sure way to get Trump re-elected and 1-2 more conservative SCOTUS named, by the way.1 point

Not a real pain guy is he. He looked like he was dying and it was a throw from the pitcher that bounced. I was wondering why Herm was standing up just poking around on the knee not doing any real tests. Moncada is going to be a challenge for Herm.1 point

Do we even know that moving forward? Other then a half a season in the bigs is there anything to suggest he can continue to hit for that kind of power struggling to make contact?1 point

Thank you trades that involve minor league players take years to declare a winner or loser. But that is the mind set around here. We are a little too high on our prospects while the vast majority of them arent close yet and could falter at higher levels.1 point

Yeah I remember when Gordan Beckham had the potential to be the next Jeff Kent and Joe Borchard had the potential to be the next Dave Kingman....1 point

I am struggling to see what these have to do with off of the field focus problems, or even what #2 is.1 point

Why does Moncada need Abreu around? Real Housewives of Atlanta They are young guys with massive talent; they'll pull it together soon enough or at least they should.1 point
-
Because the Red Sox were ready to compete right then and Moncada was not ready to be called up right then. That one is easy. I'd make the same call.1 point
-
Lord help us. As for Moncada and Kopech, they both had off the field/personality issues that were focus related. And we've seen it. It's a little odd though considering that the Sox tend to over-emphasize "good in the clubhouse" and "grit" in general. But focus issues increase the risk, so it's easier to see why the Redsox wanted to protect what they saw as surer bets to be productive major leaguers, albeit with lower ceilings.1 point
-
Because they're in win-now mode and Moncada would take longer to develop than Benintendi. Plus, he was blocked by Pedroia. Benintendi is better right now, but it's very easy to see Moncada being the more valuable player in the long run, especially given Benintendi's average-at-best defense at left field, which is either the least important or next to least important (1B) defensive position.1 point

What’s cool is that no greater collection of talent will probably ever be traded than the Sale trade. Top pitcher in the league, friendliest contract ever. I can’t imagine a scenario where more value exists in a tradeable asset. So Moncada, Kopech, Basabe & Díaz is the most a team will ever get for anybody I guess1 point
-
The Sale Trade was not light, IMO. You pay a premium for a consensus #1 prospect in baseball because that guy should be a dominant force in your organization for a decade to come. Getting that along with a top 20 pitching prospect is a major score. The question remains whether or not we will be able to do anything with that talent once we acquired it, or did we get fleeced because our scouts just looked at someone's prospect lists and didn't notice flaws that should have been caught.1 point

Most of what Hahn says publicly strikes me as hyperbole/spin/CYA; my view is still affected by his sorry excuses for the Shields trade, which were never challenged by Chicago media or bloggers. That said, on paper at least, that deal was so strong, it's hard to image another teaming coming close. The Sale trade was probably light on paper, and in comparison to the Q deal it was definitely light. And except for Moncada, we're still "on paper" on these trades.1 point

Of course you don't. You are the kind who tried to hide it instead, by implying it with the "short bus" implied connotation instead of just coming out and saying it.1 point
