  1. The Sox are digging a really deep hole here. If they want to make the playoffs, they need to start winning soon.

  2. If you can't deal him, DFA him. Too many young pitchers in the org that need an opportunity.

  3. Whoa whoa whoa, I liked that video of Medeiros' slider as much as the next guy, but the Rodon comparison doesn't work for me until he starts throwing 97 with a jersey only halfway buttoned up.

  4. For me the best case scenario goes like this. 1) Shields traded 2) Volstad DFA'd 3) Covey moved to the pen in Volstad's spot 4) Kopech and Stephens called up to take the two open spots in the rotation. 5) Hamilton replaces Soria

  7. It was a joke. There was a thread in early 2006 that was titled "Where's Our Liriano?" During a time when the Twins were bringing up good players from the minors left and right and the Sox were spending 1st round picks on noted bums such as Lance Broadway and Kyle McCulloch. I was hoping some of the board vets such as ChisoxFn, Tony, and SS2k5 would laugh at it.

  10. Some people are here are going to be really disappointed in what Soria returns. I have low expectations, but hope to be surprised. I'd be shocked if the Sox added a top 15 prospect to their farm before the end of this season.

  11. If you trade Moncada for Mike Trout, would that be considered a win for the Angels? At some point the surplus value analysis becomes less black and white, especially when you’re analyzing the value of elite players on a reasonable contract, because you have to spend your money somewhere, you couldn’t fill a team of pre-arb players.

  12. Rollie Lacy and DJ Wilson are the two names I've seen. Wilson is ranked as the Cubs 8th best prospect by Fangraphs. Lacy is not ranked at all.

  13. Yeah, I could dig this. I go back and forth on Covey, but I would like to see Stephens get a look. I’d also DFA Santiago and call up Danish to be the mop up guy.

  14. I’d go for that

  17. For those wondering what Kodi's velo is right now, I just fired up his start from last night on MiLB.tv. The Biloxi feed doesn't have any graphic, so I can't see any readings, but I'm hoping the commentator mentions it at some point. I'll edit this post with any velos I hear. Slider - 77 MPH, 76 MPH, 77 MPH Welp. That was is. Only 3 teams was velocity ever mentioned in his last start. His slider is beautiful and slurvy. He commands it pretty well. Honestly, his command in his last start was just fine. I think he only walked 1 batter, and it was on a blown 3-2 count strike. His defense let him down a ton. I guess I'll go find the start BEFORE this one and see what I can find for velocity.

  18. Remember when I got suspended for being too far left and saying "outrageous" things? Now I'm the sole pragmatist in a sea of socialists. Pretty amazing how the world changes so quickly.

  24. I think part of it is we assumed he'd either be an All-Star or a Courtney Hawkins redux and somehow he's looking like a solid MLB regular, the part of distribution of outcomes nobody was really betting on.

  30. There's no 40 man crunch. Davidson, Palka, and Smith are all DFA or "traded for cash considerations" types. So is half the bullpen. The 40 man crunch will happen when the club is good and the prospects have matured, like the Yankees this year.

  31. Aight. Now trade Shields and get one of Kopech/Stephens up here please.

  32. Jon Heyman's Twitter is an amazing array of typo after typo after typo. First, he credited California Dianne Feinstein with the trade. Then misspelled the prospect names. Then misspelled Soria.

  35. I would disagree. They don't need any more of this type of deal. They have enough of these AAAA fodder that may pan out ie Delmonico, Palka, Skole. They should trade for true speculation like the Shield for Tatis deal.

  36. If not DFA, then bullpen. Stephens needs a shot to start.

  37. Chris Sale is a top 3 pitcher right when Boston is in a prime winning window. It's already a win for Boston; the question is whether it also becomes a win for the Sox; it should, and hopefully it becomes a big win, but that's to be determined. You can't just add up WARs anyway; otherwise, trading Mike Trout for 2 5-WAR Adam Eatons would be a good trade.

  38. There seem to be some serious omissions in this list. It's also amusing that most of it is things Democrats have failed to implement. It ends with pointing out that the GOP has controlled the House for 19 of those 25 years, but apparently this doesn't cause the author to rethink the wisdom of pursuing the same strategies that led to that.

  39. This is good. Please tell me more of how to not lose elections, people who have lost over 1000 seats in federal and state government over the past ten years. Also, imagine not perusing good moral policies to make peoples lives better because of one poll from fucking Newsweek.

  40. WWE is not a mess. They’re making more money than ever and NXT and Smackdown are good shows. The Brock/Roman stuff is tired but Seth v Dolph has been good along with Bliss/Rousey.

  46. I really don't like this thought process. People have found stats that make them rationalize why certain things are okay / aren't okay. This "absolutism" baseball has evolved into is just not good for the overall excitement of the game (i.e., HR / BB / K). Batting average is a good stat (it is not a worthless stat). Getting more hits is a good thing. Yes, luck and other factors exist (and need to be accounted for), but guys who get more hits are just generally going to be more likely to deliver in critical situations and help you win more "one-run" games. The fundamentals of players, etc has declined. Doesn't mean guys aren't physically gifted...cause are incredibly gifted and pitchers throw ridiculously harder, etc, which adds to the nuances, but the advent of the shift, the ridiculous amount of strikeouts...none of that would have happened in the first 100 years of the game.
