The level of discourse on Soxtalk is at an all-time high. Misogyny. "Retard." Yikes.3 points

He was seen in the dugout with a giant poster board that had big boxes on it, and he was checking them. It was kind of like the jump to conclusions mat from Office Space.2 points

Brad Bach is bad and a free agent after the season. You should feel fine about the White Sox trade2 points

This seems like a pretty extreme post for a AAA outfielder that was generally a good kid & teammate.2 points

Blackhawks fans were apathetic and didn't give a damn yet somehow they fill the stadium like crazy now. The Sox dont have the biggest fan base as it is, gonna look bleak at times now, but that first playoff game will be sold out. Hopefully it's in 2020, not 20301 point

The pitch prior to this, he was badly fooled by a curveball in the dirt. You could see he knew it after he swung and stepped out of the box and shook his head at himself. Clearly that mental adjustment paid off on the very next pitch. But I'm no scout - just there to enjoy what I can!1 point

Complaining is free. Going to a game to watch your team tank with players who won't be here soon costs money. I go to at least 10 games a year but I can't fault fans for not showing up.1 point

Not sure what you mean by the pitching side not looking great. They have 3 starters in Charlotte right now that are very close to being Major League ready and will probably have decent careers, one with potential to have multiple all-star seasons. We have a starter in Double-A right now in Cease that is absolutely dominating and in my opinion will be one of the pitchers that will be in the championship team's rotation. Hansen will eventually get his stuff together. Then you have all of the minor league relievers that have ERA's in the 3s and below, including some in AAA, and we just obtained 3 more in the last 3 days, one of which will probably be in our major league bullpen by the end of the year. Then Burdi once he returns. The pitching id doing just fine if you ask me.1 point

They're way over the tax line this year and they're going into the multi-year repeater penalties next year. I think they need a serious playoff run before they can talk about committing that kind of money to Sale. They still have all their other guys about to hit arbitration or free agency too. What exactly could the White Sox have done in 2015 that would have put that team even into the discussion as one of the better teams in baseball? They had virtually no assets to trade, that's why 2 straight offseasons they had to trade away scraps and eventually gave up and traded an international signing they hadn't seen. Take a look at the free agents that signed that year and tell me where these difference makers are. James Shields, Pablo Sandoval, Melky Cabrera, Chase Headley, Russell Martin, Hanley Ramirez? I guess Martin hasn't been bad, but I'm sure everyone's thrilled about that extra $25 million remaining on his deal when he put up a .637 OPS so far this year. The only real guys out of that offseason who have made a difference for teams have been Lester, Max Scherzer, and Nelson Cruz. Fine, happening to sign those 2 guys and no one else might have actually pushed that team above .500, I'll grant that, but you can't just expect to only sign guys who work out when the list is that freaking bad. Our biggest discussion that offseason was whether or not to sign Victor Martinez to DH for a $70 million-ish deal to beat out the Tigers, with one unnamed poster saying that he had learned more about hitting and was sure to put up dominant numbers into his late 30s. In 2015 he got hurt and put up a .667 OPS, and he's going to be worth something like -4 WAR over the duration of that contract. Signing him would have been a worse signing than signing LaRoche. The problem is not that the White Sox did not go all in, the problem is that the White Sox were a low 70s win team based on how much talent they had, and their GM deluded himself into believing they weren't. Their system was pathetic and it was doing nothing to support their big league roster, so the free agent market was the only way they could have gotten better, and the free agent market is a disastrous way to try to build an entire team. You can't just magically hope that all your signings are going to work, instead you have to assume most of them are going to flop. They did everything they could have reasonably done and wound up mid-70s after a huge investment. That was how any version of that plan was going to wind up; they could easily have spent a ton more and wound up equally bad or worse.1 point

Also, anyone else annoyed with the umpire's motions after every pitch? Can't tell if he's calling balls or strikes because he keeps swaying his left arm.1 point

Stop fucking bunting. It has been mathematically shown to decrease the likelihood of scoring. Thank you, Chicago White Sox Fans.1 point

Said it in the minor league thread, maybe he needs to stay on the field to check the final box.... I dunno.1 point

I just met a huge White Sox fan at my high school reunion (husband of former classmate)...we spent a long time talking about this very issue. Honestly, I have no idea what we actually have in Moncada or Anderson at this point. If they are going to be 2-3 war guys or much more. Moncada was supposed to be a 5-7ish superstar. What do we have in Giolito, or Lopez, at this point? Covey? The biggest cause for celebration is the healthy return of Rodon (for now), and Abreu/Avi hitting better than they did previously. But it's likely neither of those guys are part of the 2021 team, unless they shock all of us and sign Garcia to an extension. There's just a lot of uncertainty and frustration. I suppose the White Sox might not have any choice in eventually making it back to the playoffs, because we should be ahead of all the other rebuilding AL Central teams in 2021 and onwards, but actually having the firepower to beat the Red Sox, Yankees, Astros, Cubs, Dodgers, etc., is another matter altogether. Having a run like the Pirates in recent years (where they would make it but get knocked out early or just have one WC game) doesn't automatically turn this team into a 2.5-2.75 million attendance generator, which is what Reinsdorf would need to justify spending $130-150 million on payroll again. The Cubs are still going to be dominating the Chicago market at least for the next couple of years, too. Beyond the minor league health issues, we have a number of posters wanting to trade Rodon (clearly our best pitcher now)...and the simple fact that Hahn and Company have bungled almost every free agent signing for a span of almost five years. Eventually adding Jimenez and Kopech will make this team much more watchable, but still more or less back in 2010-12 mode, where we're competitive but far from dominant. And the odds of signing any big name FA's this loaded offseason are diminishing by the second. At best, we get someone like AJ Pollock (who can hardly stay on the field) for a "bargain" price but alluring enough to get him to sign for AT LEAST 3 years, if not 4.1 point

Lololol at the idiots wanting to trade Rodon. Let's trade Eloy, Kopech, Robert, Madrigal, and Cease too. They are too old, let's go even younger and push the competing window back even further. Bahaha1 point

The rebuild got pushed back in the mind of a lot of Sox fans who naively thought Machado was a lock to sign here this upcoming offseason .1 point

Two things. 1) Fulmer is a pitcher, Moncada is a hitter. Apples and oranges. 2) Fulmer was never the high level prospect Moncada was. Many scouts speculated Fulmer would end up a reliever and the Sox took a chance and tried him as a starter. It didn't work out so they have moved on. Many of us fans trust the Sox when it comes to pitching so why question this move?1 point

Moncada cannot be a full time starter if he cannot hit RH pitching, and thus far, he seems to have proven that he can't. I'm not buying excuses. This season is over half way done, Moncada will be 24 next year and Madrigal will be challenging for second base.1 point

Okay. Thanks for clarifying. Thought we were just talking about this season. 550 at bats and only a 2.6 war is not that impressive really. Albies has almost an equal amount of at bats and is double that in fwar. The Torres kid from NY has 240 at bats and already has close to 2.0fwar. Some real good young blood at second base these days.1 point

There are some downright delusional posters here. Below is an example. That projection would be one of the greatest seasons in mlb history. Members 100 1,788 posts Report post Posted Thursday at 09:32 PM (edited) I've been arguing with people on a different sports board about Moncada. This is the way I see it: Moncada has "Best position player in the game" potential. His potential is Who is better Trout or Moncada? His floor is Trevor Story. I don't know where he's ultimately going to fall on this spectrum, but if he hits his ceiling, I could see this as his career year .310/.405/1.085 43HR 45 SB 38 2B 13 3B 130+RBI And a GG1 point

He was listed in the honorable mention column along with Tim Anderson and Eloy. You wouldn't know by reading around here, but Moncada's stock is way down with the national guys. The guy has over 550 career at bats and has ops of 735. That is nothing to write home about. The Sox don't have a single player in the FG top 50. Fernando Tatis is listed at #39. That tells me all I need to know about the state of the Sox rebuild right there.1 point

So typical of this team that Narvaez gets a triple, but we can't get him home since the following batters were interested only in padding their statistics, not in doing the morally right thing and laying down a sacrifice bunt to get a run scored.0 points

Yoan looks like he's about to go into a slump again. Pulling off the ball badly, causing him to foul off hittable pitches. So far, the "first wave" of the rebuild has been disappointing.0 points
