Do you think it's that the "truth hurts," or that secure humans don't enjoy celebrating the failures of others? Next time I see somebody fail, I'll make sure to remind them of the harsh realities of the real world. Thanks, Tom Party Longo, my 36 year old internet realist buddy.5 points

Considering he was widely considered one of the catalysts of that dysfunctional clubhouse, he should probably not bring it up4 points

Agreed. Eloy and Kopech should be up April 12, 2019...which should be the first game of the 5th series. No apologies or excuses needed. Just wait until you get the extra year.4 points

WAR is a counting stat, and Duvall has more playing time. It's the reason I chose a rate stat to use. Good attempt at sarcasm, but you should probably learn more about what you're talking about first.4 points

Let's put the LaRoche daycare saga behind us please. I would like the tapes discussing the Eaton trade however. Would be very interesting to hear if Juan Sotos name came up at all. I would return all 3 of Giolito, Lopez, and Dunning for him in a heartbeat.3 points

Ah, the two untouchables according to pirates fans. Dealt for a average pitcher who people only knew about because he played in the al east3 points

7 years ago, the only current players on the Sox 40 man who were with the team were Yolmer who was Carlos in A ball, and Kevan Smith who was just drafted. With JR's advanced age, and of time itself, there really is no way of knowing what things will be like for the White Sox in 2025.3 points

If Rodon can stay on this roll for the next season, and we decide then that he doesn't fit the window, then we're talking about having the most valuable asset on the trade market next season by a long shot.3 points

Impressive that Duvall has triple the WAR with triple the playing time! Isn’t misusing counting stats fun?!3 points

Yeah, the guy banging the drum for a 12-year-old to be a constant club house presence for an under performing DH...has no room to talk.2 points

We recently saw a team sign an extension with a guy before he got called up right? Let's be creative here. Tim Anderson got himself $25 million guaranteed. Jiminez looks a lot more tempting than Anderson. So, go to Jiminez and offer this: 2019: $2 million 2020: $2 million 2021: $2 million 2022: $9 million 2023: $12 million 2024: $15 milllion option/$3 million buyout 2025: $20 million option/$3 million buyout. That's $30 million guaranteed for him as written and he gets some of the money moved up early, that's a little less each year than he'd make if he went to arbitration each of those years so the White Sox save a little, the White Sox get that extra year of control and can stop playing the game with calling him up, and he will only have just finished his 28 year old season when he hits free agency so if he's playing like a guy en route to the Hall of Fame he can still score a half billion dollar contract in 2025. Who does that not work for?2 points

Then the posters really don't know what they are talking about. He may be stubborn, opinionated and have his own views on players but the last thing he is would be stupid.2 points

My middle name is fiesta, duder. Sometime the truth hurts. Kid is mostly likely going to have to get a real job like the rest of us. Y'all are acting like I wished like him and his family to get cancer or something. In the words of Tom Hanks, "there is no crying in baseball."! Also, I watch baseball and go to Soxgames to be entertained. It was painful to watch this kid out in center last year. If I wanted to watch minor league baseball i would go to Kane county not 35th and Shields.2 points

If Eloy comes even close to his ceiling, he is never resigning here anyway. The whole "he's going to be mad and hate the White Sox" angle is really dumb for multiple reasons.1 point
-
Personally I feel this is a clear case of being pound foolish and penny smart. I HEAVILY discount any future event that is 7 year out. In 7 fucking years ALOT can happen. So much in fact that trying to predict is pointless. This is basic Nassim Taleb thinking, everybody should read his books.1 point

It'll be even better when Jimenez goes into the HOF with an Angels hat because he refused to sign a contract with the Sox as soon as he reaches free agency. Save one year of control to lose his services for a decade.1 point

Scott Boras. Boras clients go to the highest bidder. The Sox have given out exactly 2 long term contracts past 3 years on impending FA pitcher, and the one time they went over four years it backfired horribly on them. The other was Buehrle. Remember the whole John Danks saga? He's the only pitcher they've ever gone 5 years on. I don't agree with Reinsdorf on many things regarding how he runs the team, but going 5+ seasons on a FA pitcher is one of them. Sale doesn't count because they bought out 2 FA years and signed him to a 7 year deal 2 seasons into his career. In reality, that was a 2 year deal that they ended up trading anyway.1 point

Same here Jose. Not to sound like I have my hopes up but I really do think we're days away from seeing Eloy on the south side.1 point

This is what I think too. I understand why people want to see him down until mid-April next year, but I just don't see that happening.1 point

I have no problem with gaining the extra year of control, it's the lame rationale Hahn is giving to the media. Literally nobody is buying it. IIRC the Sox did something similar with Yoan last year before calling him up. Personally I feel they have been waiting until they see if they can move an outfielder or two today. I really don't think the Sox will wait until next year.1 point
-
I can't speak for everyone, but I just don't like pitchers signing for a ton of money for 7-8 years when they are in their upper-20s. Especially if they had prior arm issues in their career.1 point
-
Yep.Hahn knew better than to say exactly what boxes needed to be checked because he knew it would sound ridiculous. Kenny on the other hand.... Imagine KW saying that about Frank Thomas. He'd have never been brought up .1 point

At least to my eyes, the case for moving Garcia isn't "We need pitching prospects", I think your list is a decent one. The case for moving Garcia for whatever return you can get is entirely that this team doesn't look like they're ready in 2019, and that is Garcia's last year before free agency. So, if you can save $10 million on him next year and get a couple of decent players at whatever position, you might as well do that...but I still don't see anyone giving up a couple decent players for him right now.1 point

I'm starting to think he's not going to get as big of offers as people expect and that Machado may end up the top target for most teams this offseason.1 point
-
Yeah, it's all BS. It won't matter in a week or two when he's called up, but for now, I'd say better to just not say anything than come up with this farcical lines.1 point

Just have to laugh at the defense comment, from a team that brought up Nicky Delmonico and Daniel Palka to play the OF. We're really grasping at straws here!1 point

It's just amazing that this country has to keep having these conversations as if a single payer health insurance plan is some wild new hypothetical program that's never been tried. It has, in different forms in different countries, and the results are all better than our system. And we provide single payer for the elderly and it works well in this country! We already provide it for the population that needs the most and the most expensive health care!1 point

There's what, 8 hours until the trade deadline? No team's going to get a negotiation window, those things almost never happen anyway but they're not going to be able to consummate a deal on August 2nd if they get the contract agreed to.1 point

You seem fun. Even if a player doesn't do well, I will never, ever understand people reacting this way to seeing a career crumble. Why say shit like this? Does it make you feel all big and tough or something? He's a human being, he didn't pan out as a ballplayer, I'm sure he's not happy about it either. This just makes you seem like a miserable human being.1 point
