  1. Again by this philosophy let's take the best OF in Trout. All other OF must suck because they can't play center field AND hit like him. If you are comparing all other players to the best at their positions everyone in the MLB sucks except for maybe 10 players. The entire premise of your discussions is invalid. Everyone is dumber for having to listen to this insanely idiotic diatribe. I award you no points. May God have mercy on our souls.

  2. I could see some sort of compromise where the 1st September call up wouldnt count as service time, but the player would get a MLB salary. Then make it so service time is 1 day played prior to September. Thus Eloy could get called up this year, get paid MLB money for a month. Then next year Sox have no incentive to hold him down at the start. I could see that making sense for both sides.

  4. Yea great can't bring him in up 4-0 but now we can when its 4-4 in the 8th lol at high leverage situation bullshit

  5. That's a straw man, the issue is that Giolito was trotted out to start the 7th when his night should've been over.

  6. Renteria is as brain dead as one gets. Sorry excuse for a Manager. We all could manage the team better than his ass.

  7. No I just hate Renteria and think he should be shitcanned anyway.

  12. We should have called him up a month ago. If it is true the Sox approached him with a contract offer designed to secure the extra year while also calling him up this season, it would be proof positive of the Sox's motivations. I would be happy for the Sox to get sanctioned for this stuff because it's bad for the game and something has to be done to stop it.

  13. Machado is going to go to the team that pay him the most. It really is that simple.

  14. I like the Red Sox a little. Sure, their fans were annoying when they won 3 WS in 8 seasons, but whatever they had waited a while. Anything that pisses off the spoiled, entitled jankee fans is ok with me. BTW, I call the Yankees the jankees because that is how Ozzie used to say Yankees.

  15. You're right. I look at this, I went down the rabbit hole of trying to prove Anderson sucks and I couldn't pull it off. Hey, that is what the Scientific Method is for, right? I came up with a hypothesis, tested it and it didn't pass. My internal biases did say "I think Anderson sucks." I want to believe he sucks but he doesn't. He's average and that is fine. Not going to argue this anymore. I'm done. I generally don't like players that don't get on base, but if there is proof of value otherwise I'm not going to argue.

  17. Thyago Vieira is Portuguese for Bruce Rondon.

  18. Vieira is about as slow of a pitcher as Quintana. I don't like it. I didn't like it with Q, but I put up with it and didn't complain because it worked for him while he was here.

  25. IF Renteria does that, they'll blow the game. And he'd deserve to be fired.

  29. This is the one benefit of this season - it seems like it gave Lucas time to work through his shit. That is why we kept throwing him out there. Because right now, he totally looks competent.

  32. I'm in agreement with you, in that I think I've seen enough of Davidson. Palka would be more interesting if he could field a position to the tune of "only" -5ish DRS, but alas, he's a butcher. Oh, and get his Ks below a ~33% rate. For Delmonico, he's quietly built himself back up to a ~95 wrc+, and with health & more exposure, perhaps he can become more. At the same time, while Delmonico isn't who I'd want @ 3rd, he at least has exposure at that position, and could be an "emergency" option, behind a FA signing, Yolmer, and perhaps Leury. Insofar as the bolded goes, I have to disagree. Engel looks like a typical "Garbage Time Hero" who will promptly go back to sucking at baseball, as any number of GTH's have done for the SOX in the past. I've been done with him for months.

  36. I mentioned this the other day, but it's true...years ago, if you saw a 21-yr-old prospect killing it at AAA, you'd be happy, but you'd say, "That guy is going to be awesome next year when he gets called up". You wouldn't necessarily be demanding his call up for your entertainment for a month. So part of the problem is just social media and being exposed to his daily performance. And yes, the White Sox themselves add to that hype, but they're not doing anything that bad here.

  37. So fucking stupid to worry about shit 7 fucking years from now. You discount ANYTHING 7 years in the future heavily in ANY plans you make. Christ. You'd think a smart guy like Hahn would know more about long term predictions and how futile it is to plan that far out. That said, this has JR's fingers all over it IMO.

  38. To further bring home the point, only 4 teams have a 5th starter in that range, and 2 of them (Red Sox and Cardinals) should barely count because they haven't had a dedicated 5th starter all year, it's a spot that has been shared by various guys throughout the season. Also Eduardo Rodriguez hasn't pitched in nearly 2 months and Porcello's ERA is just barely in that range so I'm hesitant to even include them. Very few teams are even going to end up with a 5th starter pitching over 100 innings.

  39. Because of the quality of the offense he's facing, If they got 5-6 IP 3-4ER and 5 K out of him today I'd call that a win. Anything better is gravy.

  40. No doubt. I don't know why the metrics hate Engel defensively(maybe it has to do with his noodle arm), but I'm willing to wait a bit to see if he could provide more value because they've been talking about a swing change in the broadcasts with him. If he is still crap next May, by all means DFA him. For most of the past two seasons he belonged nowhere near an MLB roster.
