With regard to that trade, I'd imagine the choices were Benintendi/Groome/filler or Moncada/Kopech/Basabe/Diaz. The upside on the latter package is MUCH higher than the upside on the former. Moncada has Top 5 position player in the game potential, and Kopech has ace potential. Not to mention Basabe. Diaz is always hurt so whatever with him. I take the package the Sox took 10 times out of 10. The bust risk is higher, but the potential is MUCH higher. The Sox could end up with a Top 5 position player in the game and an ace from that package alone, and chances are they're getting at least one of those two players. Easy choice. Benintendi is going to be a really good player for a long time, but both Moncada and Kopech have a chance to be HOF players.2 points

Good call. Jones to 60-day. I feel sorry for the kid, terrific stuff but his arm is like an overcooked turkey leg at this point...1 point

It’s amazing that we can watch four games in a row and the starters are Lopez, Giolito, Kopech, & Rodon.1 point

If you are gonna pay a defensive player $150 million, no better time to do it than when your QB is on his rookie contract and still cheap.1 point

Totally different situation with Frank. Different rules, and the team was trying to make the playoffs in 1990. Kris Bryant must really be pissed at the Cubs. Not only did he have over 500 AB in AAA when they didn’t call him up, he lead the spring training world in HR when they sent him back down in 2015, a year they made the playoffs. It’s just talk. Eloy and his reps know the Sox are doing exactly what they would do in their situation, but putting some pressure on them won’t hurt them. There won’t be much to gain other than Eloy gaining service time with a call up now. Most of the balance of the schedule will be AAA/spring training quality anyway. It will cost him about $90k now, but if he turned down a contract, $90k shouldn’t bother him at all. Everyone knows what is going on. I would think most would be on board that we have crossed the line where it would make any sense to give up the control to show off a new toy a while ago. Also, what if he pulls a hammy or twists an ankle his first couple of games? Giving up a year for 30 games is silly, it would even be sillier if it was for fewer.1 point

Frare has to be on the 40 over the offseason anyway. Cut Garneau.1 point

Sox are dead wrong here. He should have been promoted months/weeks ago. Keeping him at Charlotte makes almost as much sense as keeping him there all of 2019 too, just for more control. I'm sure glad they didn't do this with Big Frank.1 point

Not me. If benintendi was in that trade we would have gotten less. Basabe might end up being a special player.1 point

Does that mean there is no such thing as black people who are not America, not even in Africa? I am always surprised how many are confused by this. Even many black Americans think blacks in Latin America are some distinctly different racial group. Blacks in Latin America are just black people raised in a hispanic culture, their ancestors are from Africa just like American blacks.1 point

The Sox do have blame. They are purposely limiting his income for the sole reason of limiting his income. Just because you agree with this practice doesn't mean it's right. It is solely to benefit the monetary position of the team. Thy should file a grievance. They will lose but they should still file it.1 point

A 21-yr-old that hasn't played a full season in AAA. I don't care how good he is, the Sox don't have to feel bad about anything. The MLBPA is to blame, as they collectively bargain this stuff.1 point
