  1. Why can't they afford to? Do these games matter? Is he hurting attendance? Is he taking playing time away from a young player who needs a chance?

  2. I've been a pretty big contributor here for a long time(started posting at SoxTalk in Jan of 06 after defecting from WSI), but this weekend has kind of broken me as a fan. I might take a year off and not care even close to as much about my Chicago sports teams. I'm posting this because of my posts in the past about MI/Autism, and I don't want anyone to worry about me. I'm fine. I'm just catching up developmentally and growing as an adult. I'm starting to realize a lot more where my priorities are, and sports, quite frankly, isn't one of them right now. I'm already pretty invested in this season, So I'll stick around until I start my new job leading up to the last week of the season, after that, all bets are off. I don't know if I'll return or not. Who Knows? I might like not wasting time on watching a silly game a lot more than wasting time on it. I've been working really hard to eliminate pessimistic thoughts, and sports are letting them creep back into my brain. I can't have it and it isn't healthy for me. Peace, Parkman

  6. Thus is where things get derailed in politics today. Instead of discussing the issue of the sexual assault, a serious crime, it's digressed to what each side did and which side is controlling the Senate. More political "my side" instead of working through issues.

  9. I'm not a fan of the President getting to select SCJs. If Trump only has a 4 year term and we lose 3-4 SCJs during that span(we've already had 2 in less than two years) that is pretty horrible to have such a radical and unpopular president pick 1/3 or more of the Supreme Court. Going back to it, I like a maximum of 2 12 year terms, with 1/3 of the Supreme court up for election every four years, in Presidential Election years. A special election would be held during the next mid-term, if a justice were to die in office or otherwise become incapacitated. It would work similarly to how the Senate election process works.

  11. We need to start winning more games NEXT year to maintain fan interest. I don't want to see any more tanking nor do I want to overspend millions on free agents (primo free agents won't come here unless we're the highest bidder). I think we can accomplish this. Improvement should come in the everyday lineup (with Eloy added) and the 3 starting pitchers we currently have in the rotation (no Shields and no Kopech next year). There are several options for the other 2 starters yet to be determined Where we do need to spend on help is for 2 or 3 affordable bullpen pitchers. With a couple of exceptions, the current guys are obviously not cutting it. Too many blown leads late in the game. We're not going to compete for a division title next year, but we do need to improve to 70-75 wins and then a winning record in 2020 when more of the "future of the team" makes it to the big club.

  13. I know he wanted this post closed but I think this needs to be said. Sports is a good release for our hectic lives. When things don’t go right, it can get frustrating. What people need to understand is that what is going on with the White Sox will not get fixed right away. If you are expecting big improvements next year then maybe taking off a year is worth it. I hear how the rebuild is a failure, etc. those people saying that have no clue what is going on or just want to vent and complain to make themselves feel better. Unfortunately, I have resorted to do the same thing. It is frustrating as a fan to see people act like that. I want the White Sox to win so badly. The greatest moment for me obviously was 2005. Even then, I was frustrated with fans who complained about the Carlos lee trade. Thankfully they came through. I am dealing with the same kind of frustration from fans now. What frustrates me is why fans don’t understand or don’t care. We are finishing year 2 of the rebuild and only have Moncada, Lopez, Giolito, and Rodon as core pieces of the team and yet fans expect this team to win now. Where does that come from? I love a Cinderella story just like anybody else but to think otherwise is just wishful thinking. Rebuilds come in many stages. Yes, we got many prospects from all the trades. Are they all up here? Us, losing, is also a part of the rebuild. The 4th pick, plus where we pick after this year, is all important to the cause. I laugh at the fans that want to beat teams just because they hate them, when doing so, negatively affects the team. I think this years draft will be more important than ever. Name me 1 rebuild that took less than 2 years when the entire team was gutted. I can’t wait for the rest of the guys to come up. Free agents will also be important. But they are not here yet. Too judge a rebuild now, is just plain dumb. Your crazy if you think next year will be much better. It will be at least 2020 before we see the results. Some say fans will become frustrated with the continued losing. Why? I feel very good about the future. I went to 2 games this year. Not a lot but considering I haven’t gone in 3 years, it’s a start. I see the plan. I see the coming players and feel confident, we’ll be good. I can’t wait till 2020. Losing Kopech, is frustrating but he’s only 1 person. We have much more in the minors. We were not ready to win yet so having it happen now, is the best thing. In 2 years if things have not dramatically changed, I will be very upset and voice my displeasure. Now is not that time. I am happy with how things are going. Hopefully, we lose the rest of our games and I’ll be happier. So if you are concerned about winning then taking off next year may be the best thing to do. It’s not going to happen. I’m going to keep enjoying the continued growth from our minors and hope that who we draft and sign the next couple years will perfectly compliment what we already have. Until then, I like what I see and those that can’t, are choosing to do so. There is nothing that is happening that wasn’t supposed too so if you don’t like it, take time off and come back in 2020. If we’re not winning, will be taking time off too. But I don’t see that happening. Go Sox

  14. I've never considered you far-right. I think while you will face broad agreement, I think the disagreements you hit on are the thresholds, or what actually motivates voting. For instance, the treatment of immigrant children being removed from their parents is so awful to me, that it wouldn't really matter if an elected rep was for single payer and pro-choice if they also supported what I consider to be torturing of children (and parents). If we were having, and what I miss, just banal policy disagreements that can boost or punish people on the margins (healthcare, fiscal policy) then I agree some perspective in order. BUt there are policies (gay rights, abortion) where the impacts are so punitive and unforgiving that I can't just say "well, but we agree on the deficit". And that's really what drives people. But overall, as long as I know the person thinks that their policies put americans in the best position possible even if I disagree with it. THat's fine. There's a lot of people right now that first and foremost just want to piss off other americans, and I'm not going to find common ground with them. They are wrong and need to feel their opinions are wrong.

  17. I let my inner meatball come out wrt the Bears. I'm trying not to be incredibly skeptical about the Bears and Sox right now. (it is impossible to not be skeptical about the Bulls and the Hawks are in no man's land currently) When I get overly negative it is because the years of failure as an organization get to me. The skepticism comes from "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" I don't want to get fooled, so I assume incompetence until proven otherwise. Approaching it from a neutral perspective and letting it play out is probably the most sensible answer, and I know that, but I choose to be somewhat negative about my favorite teams until competence is proven. I don't like getting disappointed. It doesn't feel good, and it also makes me look like an idiot.

  20. I understand the gist of this post, but it isn't realistic. As men we enjoy our sports because we grow up loving our teams. It's a pride thing and gives us all something to bond over. There is nothing wrong with being attached like I told my SO's sister. She spends all her time watching the fake bachelor, Bachelorette, bachelor's in paradise, etc. Women have their TV shows and things they get attached to and talk about for weeks on end with friends. We have our sports.

  21. Guys, to clarify, it isn't as much about the emotional investment as it is the time investment. We only have so much time to walk this planet. I've been watching 120+ Sox games, 50+ Hawks games and every Bears game since I was 13. I can't even begin to fathom all of the countless hours I've spent on message boards. I want to explore other things I can do with that time. I have other hobbies, such as fishing, amateur astronomy, and chess that I also love doing and I'm taking away from the enjoyment of those activities by watching men in costumes play a children's game. I'm not completely giving up on sports, but it is going to the bottom of my priority list. If I have an opportunity to do those other things, I'm going to make that choice now. 19 years of making gameday the priority for my leisure time is enough.

  22. Realistically, sports is supposed to be an outlet from life. If it is becoming stressful, it is time to walk away because you aren't doing it right.

  23. As my wife once told me when she became a bit irritated how much time I was spending with baseball games, it's just a bunch of uneducated men in silly costumes, running around in dirt trying to hit a ball with a stick. I was actually thinking more about this after the Bears game last night. as I do from time to time, and listening to how pissed off OB and Hampton were after the game. Yeah it's great when they win. It's great when the Sox win, but in the end, it really isn't that important. If your overall happiness depends on these teams being successful, you're screwed.
