The desperation with which you want a scapegoat is amazing. Just making up numbers about value, saying you wish the team was losing money, and generally assuming that you have any clue as to how JR’s ownership actually affects day-to-day baseball operations is just random meatball bullshit. The team is financially stable, staff enjoy working for the group, and theyve shown they have no problem maintaining a payroll in the top half of the league when it makes sense (or even sometimes when doesn’t make sense) to do so. The team can win. There is no reason to believe ownership is the problem.2 points

That was hard to watch. Even thought it was gradual, I feel like I wasn’t prepared. I don’t care what others think, guy is a legend.2 points

FG updated their draft rankings for 2019, 2020, and 2021, though the last two are smaller updates. They also got a nifty new prospect-centric page at fangraphs.com/prospects https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fall-equinox-draft-board-update/ https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2019-mlb-draft They have Rutschman as the lone 55 FV right now, but they have 11 other 50 FV guys right now. It seems like the two HS hitters they are highest on are CJ Abrams and Corbin Carroll. I said earlier I thought we would take Abrams, but I could see us taking Carroll because he has been good all summer but he is a little undersized.1 point

I don't know how anyone can say this is a 5-7 win team. I know the schedule gets tougher but barring major injuries, I have a really hard time seeing the Bears any worse than 8-8. With development from Trubisky they could even be a 10 win team this year.1 point

I don't know, I'm not happy with how Trubisky has played, but I also feel like they are only a few adjustments away. The good that I like is their average time of possession is eye-popping. The defense can stay dominant when they limit the amount of possessions for the opponent. Last year bears would go 3 and out or fizzle out between the 40s. Now they are fizzling out in the opponents 10-40 yard line. I think they'll find the plays that start to convert. But the offense will get "unlocked" as soon as trubisky hits some deep balls. I'm just gonna say I don't think he can't, I think though if we are staring at a situation where he's both not good at it and apprehensive about them that's bad. But the screens are a product of the lack of vertical passing. It's frustrating but also I don't remember the last game the bears came from behind to win. Last year all the effort to keep games close just kept us an arms length away. They did it. Cards are probably a bad team but they punched bears in mouth and bears grinded back. It was nice to see.1 point

I remember being a little kid jumping on my parents bed watching Hawk & Wimpy call games. Hawk narrated the summers of my childhood and I appreciate him for that. Although it's his time to move on and I've been ready for the next voice to permanently take over, this moment is still bittersweet. Thanks for everything Hawk!1 point

I started with Harry doing Sox games (and Mary Frances Veeck and Friend) listening to a transistor radio picking up WMAQ in Springfield. On west coast swings, I listened under the covers hoping my mom didn't make me turn it off. There was a connection because my dad grew up listening to Harry do Cardinal games. In Alabama now, my son has grown up to be a Sox fan because his dad was. He knows the Hawkisms but it is a little different now days just due to all the media people can listen to. It is sad because announcers are more and more vanilla. He was a homer, he could go nuts, he could ramble but make no mistake...he was ours! Thanks Hawk.1 point

Just had a thought... If Spiegs was drawing residuals from FELDCO, he wouldn't have to work for at least a decade.1 point

Gonna miss Hawk, his Hawkisms and his stories. No denying his love for the White Sox.1 point

I trust our FO has a plan in place to draft the best player at 6 so we can smash the cubs and ruin their fans’ season.1 point

This mentality makes no sense to me. Why do you care about beating the Cubs? They aren't rivals and they're definitely going to the playoffs. Losing to the Cubs is the best thing for the long-term future of the Sox. It's mind boggling that I continue to see this sentiment.1 point

In addition, in the late part of the rebuilding, there were many no-shows at Wrigley. Attendance figures stem from tickets sold, not fans in the seats. Even Cub fans had enough of losing. From 1945-2015, the Cubs had 45 losing seasons. Anyone would tire of that crap. Sox fans are always accused of being bandwagon jumpers. Bandwagon jumpers only go when the team wins. The Sox have won exactly one World Series in the past 101 years. They have no post season appearances in the last 10 years. How about this? Instead of blaming fans for all this failure, how about putting out a winning team for a change? And if the Sox want people to come out, stop hating their own fans. That would help, too. The White Sox have a feeling of entitlement. They aren't entitled to anything. No go out there and win something and stop the whining.1 point

Thus is where things get derailed in politics today. Instead of discussing the issue of the sexual assault, a serious crime, it's digressed to what each side did and which side is controlling the Senate. More political "my side" instead of working through issues.1 point

The only tedious thing is your irrational hatred of people that drives you to attack anyone who corrects your lies. Both of the previous owners threatened moves. Moving the goalposts to fit your hate doesn't change that. It's Trumpesque after a while.1 point

If it were a break even business, people wouldn't be paying what they are paying to buy them. JR went with the break even line years ago, and wisely stuck to it. Publicly acknowledging he is making money on the White Sox can only be bad for him.1 point

I have always believed and heard from sources that JR has complete, utter control of the team and day to day operations. In fact it is written into his contract that he has a free hand without having to consult the other owners. The other owners can offer opinions and disagree but have limited to no power to do anything about the operations of the club including selling it. JR does not need to gain their approval. I know a few years ago a group of other owners got together and tried to force a sale which was quickly killed by JR.1 point

You are trying to be way too crazy here. Both were smallish players. Omar Vizquel was a game changing defender at SS. All reports are that Nick Madrigal has that ability at 2B. Omar was an ideal #2 hitter between Kenny Lofton and Robbie Alomar who could do just about anything with his bat to win a game. I think Nick is also going to be that type of hitter, with a similar amount of power, speed, and SBs. Omar took a walk around every 10 to 12 PAs, and Madrigal put up a similar number in college. If you still a solid lead off hitter in front of him, and a good power hitter behind him, I am feeling pretty confident with his baseball IQ, that the walks will come at a minimum of a similar rate, if not more. This is totally on the assumption that due to physical limitations that Nicky doesn't gain a ton of power in his game. All bets are off if he can find the same weight room as a Jose Altuve found in about 2015. Speaking of Altuve, if you look at the first four seasons of his career, that might be another solid bat comp for Nick.1 point
