Let me say this clearly. The act of putting yourself into dumb, or even dangerous, situations does NOT invalidate anything that might happen to the person after putting themselves into that situation, even if they full well knew that something like this might/could happen. The ultimate responsibility rests 100% on the person committing the crime, period, end of story.3 points

Kavanaugh's open contempt for the Democrats makes it clear, at least, that the SCOTUS is a partisan institution and should be viewed and treated as such.2 points

That's because you are just a casual fan, versus being a die-hard fan, like the poster who you berated. As the casual fan you are, you've made it very clear over the years that you are completely content with the Sox as long as they are playing the grand, 'ol game of baseball while wearing jerseys that say "SOX" on them. That checks off on all of the boxes that are meaningful to you. Meanwhile, the diehard Sox fans, just like diehard fans of any team of any sport, will often get emotional, particularly if they are faced with the kind of chronic losing our fans have been faced with, which will spill over into anger from time to time. That's the nature of a diehard fan, always has been, always will be. You as a mere casual fan really should try a little harder to realize and acknowledge that.2 points

This is always my reaction to the more ridiculous conspiracy theory claims. If the Democrats were so powerful as to be able to create credible allegations from scratch, how come they have never used that power before? I mean if you can take down a Supreme Court nomination, why not take down Trump? Or Ryan? Or anyone else of value? It is the same reason I believe the 9/11 or Qanon conspiracy stuff is trash. Sure, the same government who can't build a basic website, or provide basic health care to veterans, is going to be able to put together the most complex and detailed conspiracies in history together, and not have them fall apart through people talking... Sure. Ok.2 points

Here's the bottom line. None of us have gone through this before, or, if you were around in the early 90s, it's been a long time. From everything I am hearing from the professionals, this shit takes TIME. It is ALL a waiting game. None of us know how it's going to pan out, which players will succeed and which ones won't. Sure, as fans, we want to see better product on the field, and seeing multiple losing seasons in a row sucks. Guess what, WE DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW THIS TEAM. WE DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING. We CHOOSE to buy into the White Sox product. We CHOOSE to watch this shit day in and day out. We don't have to. Anyone with brains knows that this rebuilding thing is going to take 4-5 years before we see them at least start to contend, especially with the injuries in 2018. We can b**** about what happened with the moves made back in 2007, or 2009, or 2010, or 2011, or 2013, or 14, or 15, or 16. But guess what, none of it matters. We are where we are now, we are going for SUCK another year, probably hovering around .500 in 2020, and then hopefully win the division in 2021. So until then, quit b****ing about it. But who the hell knows? We might catch lightning in a bottle next year! Now, it would be foolish to hang your hat on that, but it could happen. We also might not win anything until 2025. Get excited about the players in the minors. They raked this year. People like Rutherford and Basabe showed real promise. And not to mention Cease and Eloy. Sure, there were a few setbacks, like with Hansen, but there is so much more the be excited about.2 points

Look youre all missing the point. The Republicans are the victims. The Democrats had information that disqualifies Kavanaugh. Instead of bringing it to the Republicans right away, they sat on it until it would do the most damage and possibly ensure that there would be no confirmation before the next election. This is really really unfair. As you know the Republican's brought Judge Garland's nomination to a vote immediately and did not delay. Now since the Democrats waited so long and there isnt enough time to push through a new nominee, Kavanaugh should be put on the Supreme Court because otherwise its just unfair to the Republicans. Thats basically Graham's argument. Im starting to think he doesnt even believe Kavanugh, but he is worried about what happens if they cant force him through before November.2 points

One rule of Soxtalk: If you have managed to put me and this guy on the same page, you have achieved something special, and you should probably reexamine your basic assumptions on the underlying topic.2 points

It's not her fault she was raped, BUT she could've/should've.... is literally the most common form of victim shaming. It's not even debatable.2 points

You may not THINK you are victim shaming, but it an attempt to focus on the actions of the victim and in doing so question their morals and ethos, you are 100% clearly victim shaming.2 points

People will eat up anything positive considered how long this team has been bad. I was thinking last night, after watching Biebs make the Sox look like 8 year olds, who is going to be the future multiple time All Star this winter after the Sox hold their "hitter's camp". At this point, most of us will take anything. You can see it when people actually wouldn't mind James Shields to return. James Shields. We are excited about several guys who have OBP of .280. It will really be a pleasure when we can be excited about real players.2 points
-
Some of you guys will just eat up anything the front office says. Reinsdorf will never sign off on what it takes to sign Machado. There is no reason to think he will no matter how many times Luis Robert is mentioned. The Sox rebuild needs to succeed without any premium free agents, its just the nature with their owner.2 points
-
Reinsdorf would never sign a free agent for more than he gave Albert Belle, until he did. Reinsdorf would never spend big money on unproven Latin American amateurs, until he did. Reinsdorf would never stomach a full-scale rebuild, until he did. All of that had 25 years of past precedent. The White Sox are undergoing a process theyve never undergone before. Past precedent just can’t apply in the same way it did before this rebuild. Also, your claim about my career/supporting ownership is completely ridiculous and even more baseless than anything else in this thread. It’s like saying “you work for McDonald’s, you have to support Wendy’s executives.” I’ve never met Jerry Reinsdorf. I have no opinion or knowledge of him or his personal tendencies. I’ve been frustrated a lot of times with this team’s direction over the last fifteen years or so, and I’d probably be beating the same drum as you if they’d spent the last two years doing the same half-assed Melky Cabrera bullshit as before. But they haven’t. They said they were going to bite the bullet and try something new for once, something that has recent, objective precedent for being an optimal strategy, and goddamn it they HAVE. They have actually followed through to this point, and they deserve the opportunity to finish what they’ve started. Based on what this team stated and how it’s acted over the past two seasons, I see absolutely zero evidence to suggest that ownership is impeding progress at all. If anything, these people seem more “on the same page” than at any other time I can remember off the top of my head. If this rebuild fails, they unquestionably need to clean out the front office. And if it fails because jerry refuses to provide the resources necessary for it to succeed, then I’ll be the next foot-long T-Longo-Marty43. But let’s give them an actual shot here. Their adherence to their own stated guidelines lately should absolutely buy them some benefit of the doubt, at least in terms of believing what Hahn is saying about spending money.1 point

And how many times, in those 25+ years, have consensus elite position players reached free agency at age 26 or younger at a time where the White Sox coincidentally only have $9 million + arbitration deals and minimal buyouts committed in the future? I don't think past evidence is relevant this offseason because this offseason is just so rare, especially because there are two of the players I just described available. It's a sport-altering offseason.1 point

They also really rush the time given to the 2 final players, when they lay out why they think they played the best game to the jury....hey BB maybe we don't need a totally wasted episode last Sunday night?1 point

It’s probably even more foolish to believe that we have a team with virtually the lowest possible payroll without the intention of adding impact FAs to it. I have so many posts saved to laugh at once we end up signing one of these guys in the next few years.1 point

Backing up the truck for Yelich in the first year of the rebuild? It would have been worse than the Supreme Court drama today.1 point

I don't know. I felt better about things pre Kopech injury, for sure. I look across the AL, and I don't see a ton of teams outside of the Yankees and Red Sox, and wish I had their crop of young players more than the Sox. I also don't believe that the White Sox are universally considered a bottom of the barrel option for all FA like most Sox fans seems to believe.1 point
-
Do you truly believe that? There is a ton of uncertainty with a lot of the Sox prospects and young MLB players. You can't say anything for sure. The surest thing the Sox have is Eloy and everyone else is a massive question mark currently. In October 2017 it was much more plausible than it is now. There are players I WANT to believe in, but their performance doesn't justify the faith I have that they will turn it around. Because of that, out of all of the teams that are 2+ seasons into their rebuild, The Sox are among the most questionable that they'll have a winning record anytime soon. If I was speaking with my heart, of course I'd agree. But my brain says otherwise.1 point

Leahy: Are you the person referenced in Mark Judge's book? Kavanaugh: I don't know, you'd have to ask him Leahy: I'd like to. what a tremendous own-goal there1 point

Let me help you. I think this is what you meant: 1) Victims are victims, plain and simple. No one deserves to be assaulted, no one asked to be assaulted. There are victims and there are criminals under the law. There is no "contributory fault" in criminal law. You don't assign blame to the victim...they are just the victim. 2) In speaking about crimes and of circumstances around those crimes, you can say that some people didn't act in the best way possible and that they may have increased their risk of harm unnecessarily in a given situation. You are criticizing their actions without saying they are deserving of the crime or that they are at fault for the crime. If you walk down an alley in a shitty neighborhood in the middle of the night screaming "I have 10 grand in cash in my pocket" and you get robbed, no one would say that you are not a victim of a crime or that you deserved to be a victim or that your actions justified the crime. What you are saying is, you increased the risk of harm with your actions and when advising others on what to do/what not to do, that may be an example of what not to do. If I had a daughter in college and she went to parties where she knew the drinks were being spiked and knew that girls were passing out and possibly being raped, guess what, I would advise her NOT to do that. Not because she would DESERVE to be assaulted/raped for going, not because she would JUSTIFY the assault/rape by going, but because it increases her risk of being the victim and it's just not a smart thing to do. These are things you can comment on after the fact as not smart actions without pointing to the victim and saying you got what you deserved.1 point

Time will answer all the questions. I for one do not see any major free agents signing here. I do see the Sox trying to get pitching depth and improve a bullpen that basically has been a disaster and have blown 16 games where they had a lead in the 7th inning or later and wound up losing. Even those modest improvements would help next year but they are not even close to a winning record / let alone contending.1 point

Then why are you wasting your time here? You won't give them a penny, yet are letting them live in your head rent-free where you need to complain about them. Walk the walk and respect yourself first.1 point

Outstanding comments, we as Sox fans have received so little from this organization and I would not give them 1penny of my money and watching them last night I felt so sorry for those great fans that went out there to watch coaches and players that need to be replaced just like they are in every organization in all sports but not ours we deserve better, the question is when will we get the respect we deserve as Sox fans.1 point

It is the result because you said so. If you take a step back for 2 seconds and think of it differently you would realize I am not blaming the victim for this shit happening. But you don't give a shit and want to think I am an awful person for what I said even though I specially said it was not her or anyone else's fault. But you can continue you to say I am victim blaming/shaming even though I am clearly not. If I was I wouldn't be saying "But that does not mean I think it was her fault it happened to her, it should never happen to anyone and it is never the victims fault no matter how much trouble they put themselves in" Like I said you read a few words or a sentence but don't read the whole post but still come up with silly conclusions1 point

its hard to find the correct context. You are pretty focused on the fact that she shouldnt have been in a certain place. In these situations its always "She shouldnt have gone there." "She should have reported it earlier" "She shouldnt have been wearing that outfit" In the end, you rarely hear "he shouldnt have raped her"1 point

I am not but thank you for your opinion. Continue to ignore everything else I said but a few choice words that when it isn't in context looks bad.1 point

I, too, am deeply confused why young women didn't come forward with serious criminal allegations against wealthy, privileged young men who also happened to be the son of a local judge/prosecutor. In the 1980's. It's such a god damned mystery.1 point
-
I would say just the opposite. You have never been in a situation where you have seen something that shouldn't be, and sat it out? And you never returned, especially at that age? I think it's pretty safe to say most teens let stuff like that go. It's very important to most to be socially accepted at that age. Whether it's not pissing the boys off, and getting left out, or no longer attending parties. It doesn't happen like that. There are cliques. The "popular" kids get away with a ton.1 point

There isn't really any other comparison point. I don't think there has been a player that reached FA at age 25 or 26 since A-Rod and Manny. The other thing is that both Harper and Machado are superstars, similar to A-Rod and Manny and even if there was a player somewhat comparable, they weren't as good as those 4 players mentioned. Those two bidding wars are the only real comparison to this coming offseason.1 point
-
I don't, but it took roughly 60MM in 2000 to get A-Rod to sign with Texas instead of anyone else. We all know how much he signed for. The next highest bid was 8/196. The team that gave him that offer is why I have a little bit of hope, but again I'll believe it when I see it. The Sox in 2000-2001 were coming of a 95 win season, a division title, the best regular season record in the AL and had the consensus #1 farm system in baseball. That is why I believe they would have to beat the next offer by a lot to get Machado to sign here. The Sox are closer to the Rangers in 2000 than they are to their own situation then. If Harper or Machado sign with the Braves, it should shock nobody. They're closer to the Sox in 2000 than the Sox are.1 point
-
How do you know this on the first part? As to the 2nd part that tells me the opposite. They are really interested in the guy and they wanted to get him here even in a worthless year to try to sell him on coming here. That is real interest.1 point
-
I call bullshit, because they'd have to offer 50-75MM more than anyone else to get Machado to come here. I don't trust them to do that. Even if they had the best offer, I doubt it would be more than 5-10MM more than the next best. For that, I would think that Machado would choose to go elsewhere. That is my rationale. I don't trust them to sign someone like Machado. I won't believe it until they actually pull it off and Machado, Harper, or anyone else that young and good in the near future is in a Sox uniform, and they're holding the Press Conference. Until that happens, I will continue to believe it is bullshit. If Hahn can pull it off, I'll give him credit. The fact there were rumors they wanted to get MM in for a year and sell him on the "White Sox Culture" tells me a lot about the situation. They aren't going to be the highest bidder, they know that and he's not signing here.1 point

*sneezing* Bullshit. Sorry Rick, I'm allergic to Bullshit. I'll believe it when I see it. Even if you have the dollars, it doesn't mean anyone will want to come here either.1 point
