  1. It would allow the player to maximize the most of their peak years from a financial standpoint and allows them to cash in on a new contract around the age of 30 in Machado's case when he should still be in his prime. It makes sense for both sides. The Sox can afford to do it, and Machado can become one of the highest paid players in the game right now and then cash in again in a few years.

  3. I can't believe how many people here don't think they should even attempt to sign either guy. How can anyone expect this rebuild to get to the next level without bringing in an elite talent from outside the organization?

  4. Yeah because the Republicans would have totally followed that rule if the Democrats hadn't changed it. I mean, following tradition and rules, fairness, that's totally an accurate and apt way of describing how they've treated the Supreme Court seats and it's clearly only the Democrats who are unfair. Now that's the kind of honest commentary I expect from an average Republican.

  5. What difference would one more win make? Would 99 losses really be any better than 100? Dont be fooled by arbitrary cutoff points as milestones. Whatever problems you have with the team, they wouldn’t be any different with 97 losses or 105 losses.

  6. Machado might get lazy signing a 300 million dollar deal. Don’t think Harper would. Dont know for sure just my opinion. Could be wrong.

  7. Between burge dying, a mostly white jury now convicting Van Dyke, and the consent decree, I am really hoping the seeds of real change are put in place.

  8. But when you watch this team at least you can see all the exciting talent that could blossom.... Oh wait no you can't.. but it's all in the minor leagues... It better be.

  9. How can you retain Stevenson or Sparks when you just set a franchise record for ineptitude offensively? Either that, or the talent evaluation sucks and the coaches are maximizing the talent available to them...

  10. People can agree with the premise of a rebuild, but also disagree with and criticize the people that are in charge of it. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. The roster and some scouting people were blown up, but the head honchos are the same ones who struggled to be successful year after year.
