  1. I like that he's capable of being a corner OFer. Could be a fun signing, if nothing else, would like to see white sox create relationships in that region.

  2. The White Sox have been so terrible for so long, the main motivation I had to visit was Filibuster AND maybe discussing movies and a few other interests (financial). The depressing thing here is that we're all supposed to be bonded by being White Sox fans...and yet the vitriol is so overwhelming that a community with shared interests can't get along. (I'm also pretty sure if everyone on this board had actually met in real life at a Sox game and got to actually know each other, the tenor of conversations would be quite different, but that's obviously not feasible, some of us are thousands of miles away from Chicago.) Imagine how poorly that augurs for the rest of American society, when their used to be more beliefs about who we are as Americans that united us together as one, rather than dividing us. There used to be a sense of care/concern for anyone struggling in life, down on their luck, depressed or lonely...now there's more and more a prevailing sense that everyone is pretty much on their own, nobody can help you but yourself (and your family.) In the end, the political system has won again. They've managed to put the "common people" at each other's throats and distract them from the issues that really matter in the world. We've gotten bogged down in details, gossip, scandals, conspiracies and minutiae.

  3. It never gets said (with the lone exception by you) because it’s utter nonsense. Blaming the continued futility of guys in the front office, who get paid the big bucks to produce a quality product on the field but don’t, on the fans defies reason. It ain’t our fault, pal. Your decades-long grudge against the fans really skews your thinking on this matter. To even merely suggest our fan base, who has only seen our Sox go to the playoffs a scant five times since the 1959 World Series, is somehow “impatient” is absolute crazy talk. It’s the exact opposite. We are arguably THE most patient fan base around, what with so little we’ve had to cheer on during October our entire lives.

  4. Meh. Sometimes true sometimes not. I’ve held plenty of good discussions there, and yes, others weren’t so productive ... but in the end it was worth it.

  5. I see no reason to throw money at relievers this offseason. There is a wave of really intriguing relief arms at or approaching the upper levels right now, some of whom will be the core of a bullpen on the next contending team. I'd like to see all of them get good playing time. Now obviously if some dumpster dive player seems like a good cheap gamble, I'm not saying you don't consider it. I just don't think it should be something to go out looking for.

  8. But that still doesn't explain why it hasn't it prevented the Twins, Indians, Royals and Tigers from having more success than the White Sox over the last 20 years. You can argue Ilitch was willing to spend well into deficits each year, but that's no longer the case with his son in charge. Which teams that are perennial losers get consistent attendance/financial support? The Mariners and Padres? Well, you have a much nicer stadium, a LOT more revenue coming in from ROOT Sports than we get...but their attendance the last 3-5 years has pretty much been in the bottom 18-22 as well. The Pads are investing all their money into a rebuild, too.

  9. Name the other professional sports franchises (or just MLB) that blame the fans for their failures. This should be good. The Montreal Expos and Marlins? Seems they had Loria in common. The A' s and RAYS? TERRIBLE STADIUMS. Maybe the Pirates, but they never gave fans a pennant winner and dealt their two franchise players in McCutcheon and Cole away. At least the Indians did something to bring their fans back after betraying them twice. Something called repeated success that we are unfamiliar with. Other teams also give their fans weather protection (Brewers/Rangers/Astros/Mariners/Jays/D-Backs) or much better climates in general for the sport, like the Padres.

  10. What other fan base in MLB is blamed for the team's failures other than the White Sox? Did Houston support the Astros by buying tickets or watching on their RSN in 2012~2014? Not at all. It's like blaming Sears' customers for them going out of business, MySpace blaming Facebook, etc. If you're not willing to do what it takes to provide the fans more value for their money, they will turn elsewhere with their entertainment dollars. Quite simple, really.

  12. So you literally get caught stating something false about a number, accuse me of being dishonest when you were the one who was wrong, and when challenged on it, you change the stat you're looking at and don't acknowledge that you just got caught. The balls it takes to do that after publicly accusing me of being dishonest...that's something. I think that's a good place for me to call it quits on this discussion.

  13. I liked the Buster. When I first started here many moons ago, I almost exclusively posted on PHT. Sometime in those last 15+ years, I moved to posting almost exclusively outside of PHT. I can really understand why the Buster may be a risk to have on a sports board, but I also think it gave this message board something different. Id crusade for the buster.

  14. Of course you would agree. You can't ever find fault with JR, KW or RH. Granted, some of the criticism is a bit meatheaded. But there is some that is warranted. And the record, the draft picks, the trades, the free agent choices....a lot of it leaves a lot to be desired.

  15. I just want to add that there will be no civility. YOU WILL NOT SILENCE US, EVILDOERS! If you see a Soxtalk admin at a restaurant, I encourage you to yell and scream at them until they #BRINGBACKTHEBUSTER! LOL Sorry, this was like a hanging curve.

  16. I would find the NBA far more fun if I could legitimately convince myself there were 4 teams that had a chance at a title. Then you have the next 4 teams maybe having a chance to knock them out in a playoff series, and teams legitimately fighting for the 7-8 seeds, and so on, and those at least change up every year. When GSW developed their team, and you could say that they were a strong team but other teams had a chance to knock them off (one did), that was entertaining up through the end. Then they added the 2nd best player in the NBA to a team with the 3rd best player. Now I cannot convince myself that more than 1 team has a chance at a title barring injury, and I hate rooting for injuries. But in order to have a competitive league, I have to root for either the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league, or better yet both of them, to get hurt for long stretches of the season and playoffs. That angers me.

  17. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/10/lamigo-monkeys-to-post-wang-po-jung.html Athletic, 25 year old lefty slugger that has demolished the CPBL. Could end up in Japan or KBO instead of MLB. Of course, no idea how his skill would translate. CPBL is noticeably weaker than the NPB and KBO, but some real talent pops out every now and then, like Daikan Yoh, who really should have ended up in the MLB.

  18. This is disappointing. I learned a lot about politics and both sides from this board, since Facebook and social media is so nasty compared to the civility I usually see here. It’s too bad that people attacking others couldn’t get a slap on the wrist as opposed to the whole board being shut down. I was glad to get insights from different sources I wouldn’t have seen otherwise and was glad to discuss local politics with some of you as well. All I hope for is that eventually, we will be stronger as a nation when a sense of normalcy is restored and we can move forward unified together as one nation. I’ll check back when there is something newsworthy with the White Sox.

  19. It also depends on his age and service time (not sure on either) if he is considered an amateur signing or not. Edit: did the research. You have to be at least 25 and have at least 6 years of experience to be exempt from the rules. He is 25 with only 5 years.

  20. If we're competing against KBO and NPB teams then it should be pretty minimal. From a quick search the it looks like highest salary in the NPB is less than $5,000,000 and only 38 players have salaries over $2,000,000. However I don't know how the posting works with the CPBL compared to the new agreement with the NPB and KBO. If it follows those systems he might be included in the international amateur pool because he hasn't played 6 years yet. If that is the case, I don't think we'd be able to get him for $300,000 when so many other teams have pool money to blow and not many targets left.

  21. in 2006 Verlander was 17-9 3.63 ERA 4.35 FIP. The Sox had Chris Sale. And Jose Quintana. In 2006 Curtis Granderson at 25, and the amazing Chris Shelton at 26 were the only 2 Tiger regular position players under 29. It wasn't the tank that got them there.

  23. Boo, this is unfortunate. This was one of the few places I actually liked discussing politics because the board isn't full of brainless trolls with IQ's I can count on one hand. ? Has it been discussed if you can you bring back the 'Buster as a private/invisible forum or something, so those of us who want to be a part of it can be? I understand we're free to discuss politics elsewhere, but ... like I said ... I only enjoy discussing politics WITH THE FINE CITIZENS OF SOXTALK. Yes, it can get heated at times, but that happens when you discuss things people are passionate about... #BRINGBACKTHEBUSTER

  28. You aren't alone. Just because someone disagrees with how you view things doesn't make you a bad person. Not everyone in this country has the same views as the main demographic on this board. People in Missouri or Nebraska feel different than people in Chicago or LA or NY but that doesn't make those people wrong of disgusting people. Lumping everyone together in a group is infuriating. Yes I voted for Trump but that does not mean I agree with what he says on Twitter or in the media. Also doesn't make me a bigot or misogynistic, I am far from it.

  29. Hey Y2HH, Good to see you posting again. I can't imagine this place construing you as far right when that is not the truth. That doesn't seem like the filibuster we all know. I appreciate your sentiment of tolerance. I too have experienced fear that my opinions will be attacked by a gang of posters. It's never good to feel unwelcome. Anyways, I wanted to say that you suggested that I get a refurbished Macbook air about five years. I was lost at what to get as my computer and you put together a post explaining my options, pros and cons, driving factors, etc. I am currently typing on that same computer that performs just as well as it did some 59 months ago. It was a $700+ computer but has been worth every single penny. Other than my first car, that was the most expensive purchase of my life at that time and it has covered its value 5x over. So thank you for being so resourceful and taking the time to share your knowledge some time ago.

  31. This is just an unbelievably ignorant post. I don’t know at all if this Moncada stuff is legit, but if you haven’t had serious mental health issues or known someone who has, you shouldn’t just pretend it doesn’t exist just because it doesn’t affect you.

  32. Talent evaluation requires more than an analysis of statistics. Giolito had had a high ERA but consider other factors. He is a tall pitcher who has a great curve ball and can get leverage on his fast ball when he needs to. He is a smart kid who can and will learn how to pitch better. I want him in our rotation in 2019 because, given what I have observed, I believe he will develop into a solid starting pitcher.
