  1. Should be banned for backing out on their own ban bet.

  2. This is complete BS. There isn't a front office in baseball that would non tender him. You talked out of your ass, got called on it, and chickened out.

  3. Ha, there was only one direction this thread was going to go. One good post to start, and then mostly people making up what they think they know here.

  4. I've read this post about 4 times and I still don't understand it.

  5. We all know about All-Star teams, All-Rookie teams, Gold-Glove teams, etc. Thought I would get a little silly and come up with some other "all" teams. Here's a few I came up with: All Fruit Team: Chet Lemon, Darryl Strawberry, Ken Berry All Adverb Team: Ron Fairly, Mike Brenly , Don Mattingly All Colorful Team: several players named Brown, Black, Green, White The only player whose name consists of 4 body parts: Tony Armas(s) Anybody have any additions to the above teams or have ideas for other "all" teams?

  6. Derrick Rose becoming the leader, dropping 50 points on a young team that Jimmy Butler is quitting on because he and the young guys don't get along is not where I saw the NBA headed.

  8. What an absolutely terrible post. You should be banned from this site for this bullshit. Ozzie actively chose himself over his players when the team was battling for a playoff spot. We were heading to Detroit and needed to take care business and he decided that was the time to start whining about his contract. He’s a selfish motherfucker who will always place self over others. I would be enraged if the White Sox ever gave this ego maniac and the clown show of a family that comes with him a second chance.

  9. The team that invented the opt-out is going to pass on a guy they’re obsessed with because of an opt-out?

  10. People are WAY too pessimistic here. We are clearly planning to go hard after Machado. We wouldn’t have considered trading for him last offseason if that wasn’t the case. I’m a little concerned they have no interest in Harper, but that’s purely speculation. Regardless, I still think us & the Phillies are the favorites to land Machado.

  11. 30% for Machado, 5% for Harper.

  13. I will be 100% honest here, if anyone is paying this caravan it is a conservative group. They are the ones making political gains on scaring people with immigrants. The Democrats are too scared to be encouraging this. This allowed the President to score all kinds of points with his base on an issue the Dems can never win.

  14. I'm not sure White Sox fans truly appreciate how unusual Omar Narvaez' path to MLB catcher has been. For so many reasons, he shouldn't be here, but he is anyway. So I wrote up his pro development story, highlighting some of the very narrow windows he hit along the way. Enjoy.

  15. A ton of interest. But he is going to cost way too much. The Sox won't be in the running.

  16. The stakes of getting banned are too high. This isn't a bet I'm willing to take knowing our FO.

  17. You left out stepping on Pearce's heel also but your point is well taken. If he will switch to 3rd base sign him. Guys really good both offensively and defensively are so rare. If his antics eliminate a few teams , great, then the Sox have a better shot at him and maybe he'll cost less and have less opt outs.

  18. Lol, you're funny. You brought up the ban bet. In no way shape or form is non-tendering Jose the right decision. And the Sox have plenty of money to pay Machado or Harper with Jose. The two are completely different and unrelated situations.

  19. The stakes are a bit too high on this one. Our front office is simply too unpredictable, and I just don't trust them to make the right choice. Non-tendering him may be the right decision as it can free up more money for Machado or Harper. Don't trust the FO to make the right decision? No. Sorry, but the bet is off.

  21. Finally a great post regarding Jose and what they should do with him. This is what should happen.

  22. Is this Soxtalk’s first ban bet? If so, I am super fucking pumped! I’ve got no beef with you Ron, but you are as good as gone son. There is like a zero percent chance Abreu is non-tendered.

  23. I recently found the Slam forum on this message board and I might have to say I enjoy it more than talks about the Sox for this reason... hah a) Abreu at $18mm is not a financial burden nor will it take away from the Sox signing anybody they want b) why go after Goldshmidt in any way? Yes he's good, but he's no spring chicken either. Why would you trade prospects for 1 year of a guy that would replace a guy who is still a productive player? c) Jose Abreu is continually unclutch?? One quick search into baseball reference and I show that he's hit .318 with RISP and has a .949 OPS with RISP. soo....... ??? d) Since coming to the MLB this was his first season with under 100 RBI's (mind you mostly on terrible teams w/ no protection). Had he not been injured he would have been very close to career numbers in RBI's, HR, etc. Yes his OPS and SLG were down this year, but I don't really think Jose Abreu is the problem. Pay him his $18mm this year. And then I would entertain him on a 2-3 year deal at like $10-12mm a year as your DH/1B after that.

  25. There is zero conundrum with Jose. He'll be tendered on contract and he'll be on the 2019 roster.

  26. Why would I be banned for having an opinion? Yes as hard as it is to believe I am not appalled by the end of the Ozzie era in Chicago. I think it was inevitable. They'll never re-hire him as manager so I don't know why we get worked up over people's opinions of his legacy. I think of him as a WS manager who deserves credit for leaving his starters in all those playoff games and not overmanaging. He won't ever manage again so what's the big deal? Managers are hired to be fired anyway. He wasn't going to be on a lifetime contract with the Sox with his ego and lack of PC. Personally my biggest beef with him was his "Sunday lineups" which seems silly that I'd care about that now considering how bad the team has been under Robin/RR.

  27. I do know this because we have practically zero future payroll commitments and $18M is simply not enough cash to change the equation. Also, non-tendering Abreu is going to send a negative message to Machado & Harper about our chances to compete in the near-term and make us even less attractive. The idea just doesn’t make any sense TBH.

  29. As usual, you are the only one worried about his "pc concerns", while everyone else worries about important things like his managerial style and quitting on the franchise.

  30. Look, I like Ozzie the character too. But managing the Sox again? People seriously want to hire a guy who literally quit on his team before finishing a season? Who has been out of managing or coaching this long, and is not likely to be able to make heads or tails of useful analytical data? And who preferred a team with speedy versatility dudes instead of Jim Thome? Hard flippin pass.

  33. That first picture is from before Obama was president (he denounced Farrakhan during the campaign and Farrakhan isn't exactly a fan of Obama - plus their houses in Hyde Park are literally walking distance from each other) and I don't know how you figure Aretha Franklin's funeral was some kind of Democratic-sponsored event. She was a Black American cultural icon, so that's the crowd who was at her funeral. Black Americans have a complicated relationship with Farrakhan but that's a whole other topic. His anti-Semitism is well known and he's been rightly been condemned for it over and over again.

  34. I don't know, but at the very least if I was in the GM role I would have spent October having meetings with my coaching, scouting, and training staff, and asking them about this problem and coming up with plans for what we are going to do different next year to make sure it's a fluke.

  35. I can't ignore the injuries though. Out of the top 10 guys on the Futuresox list coming into this year, 5 of them missed substantial time or the whole season, and some are out next year, then Eloy missed some time and Hansen struggled on top of that. I don't think that we can just assume that has to be a fluke...and the organization absolutley should not be. If an injury rate like that happens next year, we won't have a system left.

  36. Sox Machine loves pushing the "sky is falling" narrative...they seemingly complain about every little thing that occurs with the Sox. I get being objective and critical because everything isn't always puppies and rainbows (and I appreciate that sentiment when discussing the team with anyone for that matter), but to me it seems that they're skeptical of every move the Sox make/don't make because it's the Sox that made it.

  37. What country are you guys talking about? That element has always existed in this country and we've never managed to be rid of them. We don't like to think about it because it clashes with how we like to see ourselves as a society but it's all over history.
