  4. Yeah, they are totally going after Machado.

  5. So the Cubs & Yankees both seem like no-go’s for Harper. Still seems like the Phillies are the biggest threat for both him & Machado. I really think we have a shot to land one of these guys. Can’t wait for some real rumors to start popping up.

  7. At this point, wouldn't surprise me. Both him and Machado fit into the rebuild one way or another.

  8. I agree. Yurchak has a good k-bb rate but zero power plus he is a ground ball machine. Now the dodgers coaches unlike the sox coaches can fix the latter but even with a swing change the raw power is below average. A first baseman who might hit 15 bombs with decent obp is not sought after in mlb.

  9. I don't buy that for a minute. The only team that prints more money than the Cubs in baseball is the jankees. I think there were some rough guesstimate tables out there that claimed that the Cubs may have been the most profitable team in baseball from 2015-17. If the Sox have to go up against the Cubs and jankees for either or both of them, the chances immediately drop to virtually zero.

  10. Yes but I agree with fathom. I think it's bs. I remember when the Tigers said they had no money and then went out and signed Fielder. Granted its a different time with the luxury tax but I still don't buy it.

  11. I agree although a small part of me has been wondering lately if it's all misdirection, and that their real target is Harper

  12. They currently have 3 1B on the roster with Santana, Hoskins, and Bour so not really sure that it's a fit.

  13. The Phillies already have two first basemen (with no DH spot in the NL) and one of the worst defenses in baseball because of it, they won't be adding any more

  16. I keep forgetting about the Cardinals, but you’re right they will likely be in the mix. And the Dodgers are always a threat even if they’ve never made a crazy exepensive move under Friedman. Still like our chances though.

  17. I’d honestly rather have Rondon as our reserve IF than Sanchez. I really like Yomer, but I don’t see the point of spending $5M on a reserve infielder and I think Rondon has more upside. I’d be looking to deal Sanchez this offseason and reallocate those savings elsewhere.

  26. Look at what Khalil Mack has done for the Bears. He turned a team that was getting better, but still down and out, into a division contender. We need to sign one of these two stars to gain some momentum. Not only will they add victories and take pressure of slumping players, but they will also attract other good players to our team.

  29. Therein lies the problem. Do we fault The Onion or similar satirical sites when large numbers of Trump followers can't distinguish between fact and fiction/conspiracy? Let's face it, there's a huge development over the last 30-40 years in terms of Democrats trending more and more in the direction of college-educated women (of any color) and Republicans increasing mainly in the number of non college-educated males (who are the ones MOST likely to plan and execute a violent attack on American soil). Seriously, when's the last attack where more than 10 or even 5 people were killed by a female in the US? The solution is what, exactly?

  31. Harper is likely signing with the Nationals/Phillies/Yankees/Cubs, but I soooooo badly want him on the White Sox. Machado we might have more of a chance at, but I sooooo badly do NOT want him on the White Sox. I don't care how good he is -- he's not someone I want to cheer for and he seems like someone who will play with half energy after the big pay day. GRRR.

  32. Well sure, the money will need to be there. But I think outside the win now factor, there are a ton of plusses to joining the White Sox. And I fully disagree with your assessment of the marketing opportunities. Chicago is a major market and these guys would be the face of the franchise and not just another star. I think the potential would be huge.

  33. With Harper I'm guessing the Phillies or Nationals myself. We'll see.

  34. Because I personally don't believe either Harper or Machado has even the slightest interest in the White Sox unless...unless the Sox offer is significantly and highly over the top compared to other club offers. Teams that can actually win now (not potentially in two-three years), have large scale marketing opportunities for said player (the Sox are so far off the board in Chicago they basically don't even register) and present an environment that is stable in the relative long term (say the next three to five years. With the age of JR, should new ownership come into play, who knows what could happen to the franchise) those are the teams I think they will listen to. Yea JR understands but it's not up to him. It takes two to make a deal and I just don't think those guys basically care a tinker's cuss (ya like that phrase? LOL) right now about the White Sox.
