Are we going to have to go through this every time a free agent signs or a guy gets traded ? Yes our roster sucks and many many guys that sign with other teams or get traded might fit us . That doesn't mean Hahn is a sleep at the wheel . It just means there are 29 other teams that will be making moves We can't moan about everyone other teams get and we don't . It's a total meathead reaction.2 points

Oh no what will we do, Houston got *squints at notes*......Diaz. Rebuild is over now2 points

As a hitting anayltics instructor. Very good sign by the sox, I have followed his stuff in the internet for some time and he is very modern and progressive. I do use some of his drills with the players I'm working with too, he is a guy whom I would trust to do swing changes towards the modern elevate style on sox prospects.1 point

Next week is going to be the calm before the storm since it’s Thanksgiving next week. Then it’ll start to ramp up that following week before the winter meetings.1 point

I can't believe LWE lost. What a fucking epic chokejob. I hate them with a bloody passion because I coach at a rival school but I hate them more than ever now. Letting two private schools into the 8A final is gross.1 point

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2019-white-sox-top-mlb-prospects-podcast/ This is the podcast related to the White Sox top 10. Really good stuff here.1 point

Or another attendance thread. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll get much through thanksgiving. Maybe a surprise lower tier FA (league signing not necessarily white Sox)1 point

Yeah Friedman is clearly terrible with his, uh, two straight World Series appearances and NLCS appearance. If only he could do as well with a budget as the previous GM that had similar budget.1 point

It was just kinda time. Frank kept getting injured, Sox had just won World Series and were in full on compete mode. He went on to have pretty good year in Oakland while sox got Thome so it was hard to complain. Otoh, Sox has such issues in CF maybe Rowand + Thomas could have ended up better.1 point

Among his historic Fringe Five lists..... Mookie Betts, Jose Ramirez, Danny Salazar, Maikel Franco, Marcus Semien, Austin Barnes, and Wilmer Flores. Two legit MVP candidates right there, and a few other all-star types. Good news for us Sox fans is that I believe Danny Mendick has made a few appearances.1 point

Frank Thomas is one of the best right handed hitters in baseball history. Amongst the best of the best in the HOF. If the dude could play any sort of defense, he'd be a legend. This is one of the best clips ever in baseball broadcasting:1 point

In reality, signing any free agent outside the bargain bin is a poor allocation of resources. All free agent contracts are overpayments by definition. Even these mega deals where you're getting the player for age 27-30 seasons, you have to sign them for 10+ years, and they become a burden over that length. It is no different than any other FA deal, in reality.1 point

Exactly. And it’s not like any players are clamoring to sign with or stay with the Sox. It’s nice to see someone express their desire to be on the South Side. I’m not sure why this post/his statement caused so many flippant responses from Sox fans on here, as if we are prom queen and have the ability to sign anyone else with that production. That would be a huge presumption.1 point

I'd give him $15m a year without blinking. I like having him on my team. He's a good, stabilizing clubhouse force, and he'll continue to be productive if he's healthy, even if he won't be a true star again. Keep him.1 point

Also, RF at Guaranteed Rate is not that challenging to play...not nearly the size of other outfields, and we should (at least) have a legit CF defensively to help compensate for weaknesses on both corners.1 point

First installment for season tickets is due next week. I'm sure the Sox don't mind the chatter. But they need to do something. Attendance has declined from the previous season 11 out of the past 12 years. The only exception was when they significantly slashed ticket prices and tried to win, and it was a minimal increase. Last summer, Forbes had an article about local TV ratings. The Sox were 29th in the league, and lowest among teams based in the US. I really think a guy like Lucas Giolito, one of their higher profiled players, could walk down Michigan Ave wearing a White Sox hat on Black Friday, and not be bothered in the least. You can say everyone will come back when they win, but they had a few good seasons in there where they didn't come back, and more left. And it's now been over a decade of this. Whether it will lead to something as radical as this, I doubt. But they have to kick it up a notch.1 point

Just to remind everyone: We also have the #3 pick, in this June's Draft. Hopefully, that will help fill one more piece of the core, for the upcoming window of contention. I'm sure that the front office will not forget to make that part of their pitch.1 point

We have to hope that a pitch based around being the face of a rising franchise, coupled with a massive payday will be enough to lure one of them in. I do not think that immediate contention will be as much of a factor as many think though. When signing what will be at least a 4-5 year deal considering opt outs, you do not have to contend in that first year. Sox need to bank on the Jimenez/Moncada/Robert/Cease/Kopech/Madrigal/Dunning core produces fruit, and that some our our lower tier prospects surprise.1 point

I hope one of these guys wants "their team." They can go to the Cubs or Yankees or Dodgers and be one of a few stars. If they come here, they will be the star of our team. Obviously you hope that the Kopech/Jimenez/Robert/Moncada/Cease 's of the world turn into stars with them, but Bryce Harper, for instance, could have his Chicago White Sox. He could be 26 years old and the leader both publicly and figuratively. Not likely but possible eI suppose.1 point

Oh yes you are. We all are. You are here on this message board after one of the most disappointing seasons in Sox history, not because you want to talk about the prospects, but because the payroll is so low that for the first time this shit might be interesting. So sit down over here next to me and prepare to be disappointed by the Sox more than you ever have before.1 point

LOL this place is insanity today. I tried to stop it by saying its 1,000,000 to1 we sign both and 100 to 1 to sign just one because those guys might want early opt outs as young as they are and it doesn't fit the rebuild to allow an early opt out. Anyone expecting an 8-10 year deal without an opt out or 2 better do a reality check. The earliest the Sox might do in an opt out is after 4 yrs to fit their window . Signing one with an opt out after less than 4 years would be crazy because we still might not be contending by then. To sign then lose them right when we hit the contention window is nuts.1 point
-
Well come on. I agree with you but we aren't talking about big contracts, we are talking about two of the biggest in history in all likelihood.1 point

Sign both so SoxTalk can complain about it in 2 years.1 point
