  6. Even if Shields was perfectly healthy at time of trade, which he wasn't, it was still an incredibly stupid trade. Hahn got off easier than Preller.

  8. I feel like most reports sound as if Giolito is definitely pencil'd into the 2019 starting rotation. Obviously we're all hoping he turns it around, but if 2019 looks exactly like 2018, how long do the Sox allow him to stay in the rotation? The answer probably relies heavily on offseason acquisitions and milb SP performance, but I can't imagine they'd go through the entire 2019 season with him in the rotation if he repeats his 2018 numbers. Your thoughts?

  11. Why wouldn't the Sox urge Harper to let them know, as soon as possible, in order to give them a chance to seek additional players, and thus improve their prospects for a competitive 2019? That would certainly be in Harper's interest, if he is seriously considering coming to the Sox. A team that is already prepared for a post season run, and only needs to acquire one more piece, would not be able to legitimately make that plea, but the Sox have other needs. If the front office simply told him that they want to win now, and are willing to commit the financial resources to pursue additional players, it could be to everyone's advantage to wrap up their deal, as quickly as possible. I like that approach better than a "hard ball" tactic, such as; "Hey, here's our offer. If you don't take it now, we're moving on. We can't sit around and wait on you, at the risk of losing out on other potential acquisitions." In other words, there is indeed a legitimate reason to inject some urgency here, and urgency helps close the deal.

  12. Are those real players or did the Angels just make up a transaction to convince their fans they are making moves?

  13. oh god, Grandal is so Carlos Boozer (who by the way, Grandal fits what Hahn says about someone they would value for the future that they can't help when he's available. They've liked him in the past and they can point to his defensive stats).
