  2. Can we start a thread to discuss the lack of success rather than filling the Harper thread with it? I am really not interested in your discussion but want to know Harper news...

  5. No he didn’t. He was asked what he thought would happen with Harper and Machado. Sherman said he thinks Philly gets Machado and both guys get their money. He said it’s going to take a little longer and more grinding by agents is needed. He then said he sees whoever gives the most money gets Harper since he has been waiting for this moment since he was in HS. He specifically mentioned the Sox as a possibility. THEN was asked about Harper to the Dodgers and he said he doesn’t see it happening. He said it would take over $300 million to sign him and he doesn’t see the Dodgers interested UNLESS on a short term deal. Does think Bryce is interested in playing in LA for the star reasons and it’s close to Vegas. You should really think about stopping your nonsense posts or at least try and actually report what they said. It’s seriously becoming unbearable your sources and inside info changes as much as the wind blows enough please.

  14. peavy44 told us Boras has nothing to do with this. It's all Harper and all he wants is Chicago. So have faith. His facebook source is pretty, pretty, pretty good.

  23. Been to Milwaukee. Also, Kandahar. Some portion of the population was actively trying to kill me, and it was still a friendlier city than LA.

  27. Building a brand? He can do that on the Southside. He comes to us and he is instantly the star. Not gonna be that way in LA, where he'll still be second-tier to Kershaw and probably others.

  28. Do we think he announces us signing Harper now or waits until SoxFest?

  29. 60 wins teams don’t become 90 win teams in one offseason. A step in the right direction is, well, a step in the right direction.

  30. Well the longer the wait to sign them, the more obvious it becomes they are waiting on the teams they prefer to make big time offers. Harpwr may be waiting on the Dodgers to move Puig and a few others.

  31. Of course that can be the case. I just dont see any benefits to leaking that then.

  34. This is my nightmare. That's the ultimate "rich get richer" situation and it would be horrific for the league.

  35. Am I missing something? Why are so many people here disrespecting JBJ? 29 year old CFer with an ops north of 700. That's a solid player.

  36. As time goes on this is what I think... A) neither harper or machado are signing this week, but both have a very, very strong idea of where they're going. They probably have 1 and 1A for scenarios. Harper: My guess is that right now the Sox/Phillies have very similar offers out there. Which is higher, who knows. I do honestly think that Harper will come to the Sox if those were just the two options on the table. However what his rush to sign? Yes it's screwing over teams like the Phillies and Sox to wait around -- but that doesn't matter to him. I think he'd be fine taking either of those two offers, and would be a White Sox sometime around the new year. That being said I think he's clearly waiting for the Dodgers or Cubs to make moves to free up cap space and would easily sign with either of those two teams for slightly less money. The fact the Dodgers are so clearly wanting to move pieces around?? Scary. Harper would be close to home. Hollywood. It's a match made in heaven. Odds: Dodgers 60% Cubs 15% White Sox 15% Phillies 10% Machado: Same story basically. I think the Phillies and Sox have the best current offers out there. I truly believe the only other team in the hunt is the Yankees. Again I think the chances are about equal and will come down to whoever puts the most money on the table, but I think Machado is going to wait around to see if the Yankees can make some moves and acquire him. If they're out he'll take the most money on the table. Odds: Yankees 70% White Sox 15% Phillies 15%

  42. Do you really want to commit 10 years of big money to a single player, be it Machado or Harper? And if you do, which player are you most willing to break the bank for? Channeling my inner-Hahn, there's no way in hell I'm giving either of these guys $35M+ every year for the next 10. They're both impact players, and Machado is a perfect fit for this current roster, but that's A LOT of money that is sure to hamstring this franchise in 5 years' time. If any of our up and coming players, say Eloy, hits FA and we can't sign him due to over-the-hill Machado or Harper contracts, how do you not second-guess the decision to sign those guys? I'd rather give things another year to shake out and learn what we really have with our young guys before committing big money to any player, Harper especially due to our glut of OF prospects. Our farm is SO loaded that the potential is there to create a homegrown contender without big FA signings. If this proves to be the case and only midrange FAs are required to help round out super-talented homegrown rosters, you can extend the reach of any potential dynasty by retaining that homegrown talent using the money you saved by not signing marquis FA. I'd rather take that $35-40M annually to build badass bullpens during our early, cost-controlled contending years than waste it on a single player.

  43. You have to have some serious pessimism and depression to consider 6 NBA championships luck. People are going far too overboard on this one signing or lack thereof.
