Sox should go after heyward and have the Cubs pitch 4-6 million a year in , he's still a great defender that needs a change of scenery4 points

The absolute little brother syndrome Cubs obsession on this board is pathetic.3 points

How does KW not deserve credit for the 2005 team? Some of you guys are taking your hate of the guy way too far.3 points

I would prefer multiple years of the playoffs.... and winning multiple World Series. #bestanswer2 points

Sometimes this is too easy, In the 1st post you argue Heyward isn't past his prime because he's only 29 years old. 2nd post you list his "prime" between his age 21-26 seasons which the stats clearly show using your own example.2 points

Eaton - 5 years/23.5MM Heyward - 8 years/184MM There's a slight difference in trade value, yeah?2 points

#1 easily. The Sox have already accomplished #2. The state of this franchise right now is that they badly meed a run of sustained success even if that doesn't mean a title simply multiple playoff appearances. TV ratings are rock bottom, fan interest is iffy, and they are the only one of the original 16 major league franchises to have never made the playoffs in consecutive seasons. (To say nothing of trying to become relevant again in their own home market) Having four or five good years in a row will solve a lot of their problems and issues.2 points

Guessing Theo would say no. That said, Heyward might be polarizing but at an avg. of $12M a yr., he's worth it. Sox would get a major upgrade at 3 positions plus a back-end starter with upside. Better bang for the buck than Harper without the risk.2 points

Lowrie seems like one of those guys who would pick his season with the White Sox to pull a Keppinger or Bonifacio. He’s quietly been super productive, but how long can that last? Maybe we need a new thread, moves the Sox might make which would theoretically force us to throw in the towel on our fandom...2 points

Sox send Nate Jones and Blake Rutherford to the Cubs in exchange for Heyward, Montgomery and $50 million (bringing Heywards salary to @$12M/yr.). Sox then sign Grandal (3/$45) and Jed Lowrie (3/$30) adding two SHrs. Lowrie can play 3rd or 2nd (push Moncada to 3rd). Good balance of LH/RH hitters. Net/net add of @$40M in annual payroll or little more than Harper alone would cost. Let the Cubs sign Harper. This team can compete now: 3B Moncada (SH) Rodon (LH) 2B Lowrie (SH) Lopez (RH) LF Jimenez Nova (RH) 1B (vs. LH) Abreu Giolito (RH) 1B (vs. RH) Alonso Montgomery (LH) C Grandal (SH)/Castillo (vs. LH) DH vs. RH Pelka/Alonso DH vs. LH Abreu/Castillo RF Heyward CF Engle SS Anderson2 points

Completely triggered by defense from a corner outfielder, which we know to be bullshit. He had 2 seasons with an OPS over .800. His highest OPS ever was .849. Heyward's always been a complete fraud, which is why most of us laughed at his contract.2 points

I’m not defending KW’s tenure as GM, but let’s give credit where credit is due. He made numerous moves that helped that 2005 team win a World Series, many of which were incredibly smart and/or forward thinking. And he also deserves a ton of credit for going out and adding Thome & Vasquez to the 2006 team despite us coming up short. For a period of time he was a shrewd talent evaluator whose aggressiveness & creativity were huge plusses, but he never let off the gas pedal and took too long to address the failures in amateur scouting & player development. Not sure if that was ego, Reinsdorf’s unwavering loyalty & will to always go for it, or the game passing him by, but KW eventually let things turn south under his watch. That doesn’t take away from some masterpiece GMing that led to the 2005 season.2 points

2005 was an anomaly season, if not flat out lucky. Don’t get me wrong, I loved every second of it and not trying to devalue that WS, but that roster has nothing to do with how to build a team that can succeed long term. Not the model for what the present Sox should be doing at all.2 points

This isn't such a bad deal for the reds. They take on 1 year each of Puig and Kemp for 2 years of Bailey. The reds will free up money a year sooner because of this trade. Kemp and Puig upgrade their lineup and Wood is a big upgrade over Bailey. I like this trade for both teams.2 points

Giolito is going to get every opportunity this season to work things out. And he should.2 points

If you haven’t won in some x amount of years than it's better to win a world series. If you have won in some x amount of years than it would be better to go to the playoffs more often than just winning once again. methinks x is roughly 50 years1 point

My favorite part about Heyward is he's the textbook example of why defensive WAR is garbage when actually evaluating whether you want a player, especially a corner OF. You can make the case for a SS, CF or C, but even then I'm skeptical.1 point

Then we got extremely fortunate the Nats bought into the “BS” about Adam Eaton. Or maybe not...seeing how bad Giolito has turned out so far.1 point

If the Sox took Heyward and helped the Cubs get Harper, I would give up my Sox fandom.1 point

If the Sox were take on Heyward’s contract so the Cubs could land Harper, then move the franchise to Portland cause it would be over for us here.1 point

if our pitching didnt shit the bed in '06 we would have won 100+ games that year1 point

The Reds are getting a couple of decent players (Puig, Wood) while the Dodgers are not. As such, I think L.A. should be getting prospects back. The problem here is what does this actually accomplish for the Reds? They’re still not going to be good next year and then they just lose all these guys. From a big picture standpoint, it just seems like a dumb move.1 point

The best thing about the Dodger trade is it’s hurting Boras from a negotiation standpoint. I like Harper for the Sox mainly for the marketing aspect. To use forest Gump...his career has been a box of chocolates you don’t know what you are going to get. I think whatever contract he signs runs a big risk of a “bad contract”. I also think cubs are staying out of things this year so that they can go big next year with a pitching heavy free agent class. It really looks like the dodgers are screwing over Boras and Harper and will go a different direction. Harper will be forced to take less money and a shorter term or he will have to sign with the Phillies or us. And personally I’m fine either way- I think our rebuild will go forward just fine with or without. In fact our rebuild will ultimately come down to our pitching prospects imo. Will Dunning avoid TJ, can Hansen find his control, will Cease continue to progress, can Kopech come back, etc.1 point

You know if I was that rich I would do it in a heartbeat. I just want the actual people in a district to have a voice instead of someone just determining what they do based on money. Thats not what elected officials are for. My platform is transparency. Every vote will be on the internet, ill stream meetings. My constituents need to know whats going on at all times. It's very early though, most likely someone will tell me I have no chance.1 point
