Those who think palka is better or more valuable than Joc, please use your head. look at Matt Davidson. Same age. Same ridiculous power. Same pathetic OBP and defense. Palka is replaceable. You want what he offers, go get CJ Cron, Logan Morrison, Justin Smoak, Jay Bruce, etc etc etc. the list goes on forever.7 points

I had mentioned sniffing around a jbj/porcello sumo and this is same years and structure. depends on return. I’ll just add that if bush goes I’ll be furious and it is horrendous process by Sox.5 points

I think it’s the other way around. I think this is a move that, if made, speaks to the FO’s confidence in executing on Machado4 points

I'm impressed with how quickly you got over your favorite team Dallas losing last week.4 points

I'm not going to read 9 pages but all I'll say is I'd much rather see Palka get 130+ starts in RF/DH than Pederson.4 points

Who knows if there is anything to the rumor, but I do think Joc did some work with the new hitting analytics guy.4 points

Clearly they signed Gio Gonzalez (an ex-Nats teammate) because we're now turning our attention to Bryce Harper with Machado already in the fold...and to make up for the two times KW traded him.3 points

Imagine if Palka were able to improve both his walk rate and strikeout rate by nearly 50%, become a competent defender and somehow age in reverse 8 months. That's Joc Pederson.3 points

AND be able to grab Ian Clarkin back and stash him on the 40 when the cubs try to pass him through again3 points

My Blu-ray copy of The Parent Trap did just sell on EBay to a J. Pederson from California. I never made the connection, but I think you’re on to something.3 points

NO to any consideration of including Basabe in this trade. Again, Sox do NOT have to make this trade. LA takes what Hahn offers or end of story. Basabe has WAY too much potential to trade unless down the line we need a TOR starter. Even, then, be careful. Basabe has all the tools.3 points

One of the byproducts of Tatis is going to be Sox fans constant paranoia and heightened sense of overvaluing prospects. We always over valued prospects before but it’s going to be worse now. Not that the Sox should be giving away all they have but cmon guys we can’t be afraid every time a prospect goes for a proven player.3 points
-
How can you say trading Bryce Bush is going to end up like Tatis part II and then 4 minutes later say Bush will never be a great prospect and will merely sneak into the top 100 at best? Tatis might be the #2 prospect in baseball. They got a rapidly declining SP for him and paid him a lot of money. You're saying Bush could be the #95-#100 prospect in baseball. They would be getting a productive LH OF in return for him. There is literally no similarity.3 points

He’s only struck out in ~20% of his plate appearances over the last two seasons.3 points

Don't mind me, I'm just gonna share some images of Joc and Manny embracing each other:3 points

Rich Hill would be the Sox best starter if her were acquired. He gets hurt ever year so I could see him getting slotted as the #3 in the rotation, but when he's healthy it's hard to image he not the best starter on the team. If everything goes perfectly a Rodon, Lopez, Hill, Giolito, Nova isn't going to be so bad that it keeps you from making the playoffs, but most likely it's just a stop gap group that requires three guys to be replaced on a playoff team.3 points

People still care about Manny Machado??? Pssshh, we've moved on to Joc Pederson rumors now, peasants.3 points

Avi has hit 30 homers 0 times. He has hit 20 homers 0 times. He has hit .290 1 time. He has played in 150 games 0 times. He has played 140 games 1 time.3 points

Also doesn’t want to jeopardize the chances of a deal taking place.2 points

I doubt this has anything to do with Machado and is simply coincidence. Pederson is a good player and immediately become the best OF'er on the Sox. This looks like a baseball move.2 points
-
Or, this is a way of trying to show Machado they are willing to move the timetable forward if he comes here, which is what about 80% of Soxtalk has spent the winter begging for because they can't handle the losing anymore.2 points
-
To me this is yet another signal the Sox think they are landing a whale.2 points
-
It really isn't. 1B/DH is the one spot the Sox have one too many guys. I don't know if I see them moving him though. He's a valued clubhouse guy and nice to have around for Moncada.2 points
-
If Palka loses his spot, then baseball loses Jason Benetti’s only positive contribution he will ever make to anything baseball related. Palk smash2 points

I agree, I have him as our 4th best OF prospect (right behind Micker) and 8th overall, but honestly it’s a toss-up between him & Adolfo. I love what he brings to the table, especially if he can play a solid CF. Also, while BA isn’t as high on him, FG gave him a 50 FV grade and had him 84th overall in their end of season rankings. I like Bryce Bush a lot, but a great outcome for him would be becoming a Basabe level prospect.2 points

If Jon Jay helps deliver Machado, who the fuck cares is Avi is better? If he doesn’t, then it might matter.2 points

Steamer600 projects him be a 3.5 win player next year. Given the conservatism with young players in these projection systems, that’s absolute insanity.2 points

Palka's lost 10-15 lbs this off season and has been working out at GA Tech all winter on his D. Curious to see the progress if any he's made. Probably in the same neighborhood as Schwarber...which was still meh at best. Don't get me wrong tho...I love me some Daniel Palka!2 points

Jeeze lay-off Parkman. Everyone knew what everyone meant when they said he could be another tatis, trading someone before you have any idea what you have only to see them blow up. He doesn’t literally have to transform into Fernando tatis’ son to use a comparison.2 points
-
Sox won't have to give up much to get Pederson. I've seen Rich Hill could be included too. If Sox do that and eat the money, they shouldn't have to give up Bush. I'd be hesitant on trading Bush, but I'd still trade him for a player like Pederson. If Machado and Pederson happen, I'd run this lineup out there 2B Moncada CF Pederson 3B Machado 1B Abreu LF Eloy DH Alonso C Castillo RF Jay SS Anderson That's a playoff lineup.2 points

I'm not saying an uber prospect, just one that shouldn't have got away. I think Bush is going to end up in the 40-50 range by the end of 2020. He's a HS bat, so he could even be higher than that. I don't think he'll ever get to be Uber Tatis level, but you don't trade away guys with the type of potential Bush showed for 2 year rentals. When I said Tatis part deux I never meant that he'd be a top 3 prospect in the game, just one that will be highly ranked and there would be a ton of b****ing about down the line.2 points
-
Likely? If Bush was likely Tatis, he would have been a top 5 pick, AT WORST. Bush has some promise and all but you just said he was likely to end up as one of the top prospects in all of baseball. I know this is Soxtalk and that is what we do here, but can we pump the breaks on the hysterics?2 points

Ugh, this kind of makes me feel like I can't take what he has said seriously. Such a shame, he was one of the few that I could believe in lately. I'm not saying it isnt a Sox hat, but there really is no way to tell and he is tweeting it as fact.2 points
-
On the bright side, it is good to know that Bush is going to be Tatis...2 points

Something I've noticed: When "news breakers" follow up their tweet with the "thought process" on why a team would make the move, it is a major tell that they are full of crap. The "thought process" they are sharing is them explaining why THEY think this is something that might happen, and why THEY felt it was worth taking a stab at. If someone from a front office, or an agent just texts someone a hot tip, "news breakers" just say it is "what they heard", they don't speculate on the reasoning or attempt to defend the move.2 points

I only think Pederson comes "for scraps" if it means the Sox are taking on Hill and all of his money. There is no reason Pederson should be considered worthless. He might be expendable, but he isn't only worth scraps.2 points

Pollock costs you a pick though and would also lock up more payroll in years 3, 4 etc.2 points

100% agree. We should of learned our lesson with hewhoshallnotbenamed. I don’t care if Machado is basically in the bag, Bush can always be used as trade currency in the future when (hopefully) his value has increased. IMO, guys like him, Curbelo, Sosa, Nunez should be off the table in any trades. Yes they all may be lottery tickets, but like you phrased it, they have the best chance to “skyrocket this year” and this rebuild is going to need multiple waves of talent if it’s going to work.2 points

I hope there is at least a little bit to this rumor. Young Joc would be a huge upgrade. I don't think the rumored names going to the Dodgers make much sense, but I guess if Rich Hill is a salary dump it makes a little more sense. I wouldn't mind if Jace Fry were in this deal instead of Bummer. People getting hung up on platoon splits is a little silly right now to me. Pederson is a legit major league player and Jay/Engel/Palka/Delmonico aren't. If the Sox are actually in the race in 2020 then maybe you try to find a platoon partner for Pederson, but right now I'll just happily take the massive upgrade in CF for now.2 points
-
Also just gonna add that Bryce Bush for Joc Pederson would be incredibly moronic. If any prospect not in the Top 10 has a chance to skyrocket this year, it's him.2 points
