The cubs are still getting good value out of Quintana. It isn’t a complete Loss for them like the Shields trade4 points

Ozzie calls Mariotti a f** and all of the sudden he can't get a job nowhere. A damn good manager is not managing right now because people are too sensitive. I remember the days when winning was the one and only priority in sports. It was better back then. We need a commissioner that will Make the MLB Great Again4 points

You know you slipped up when your overly-negative clickbait article gets roasted by Mr. Negative himself4 points

I was just talking to someone about what might be going on with this Joc trade, and could it be something as simple/courteous as the Dodgers/Sox waiting until after Dodger FanFest today so Joc could still attend and interact with the fans one last time? I mean, people spent $200 on a meet & greet with Joc today, so maybe both teams agreed to allow that to happen and not screw over the fans who paid to meet Joc. Just trying to rationalize what may have happened for all the smoke and even names mentioned on the first day, and then suddenly nothing since.3 points

So 4 hours earlier, some guy named Paul Crane said the Padres were close to signing Machado to an 8-year deal with an opt out after 3-years. He made it sound like it could happen this weekend. Then a very credible Padres writer for The Athletic, Dennis Lin, said the Padres have not even met with Machado yet and want to get some face time with Machado before becoming more involved with him. This confirms that Paul Crane is full of shit. We, including me, need to start ignoring guys like Crane and other insider wannabes as almost all of them don’t have sources and don’t know shit.3 points

The good news is it’s only 2 1/2 weeks until spring training starts, so this nonsense can’t last much longer3 points

I might prefer Hawk to Benetti. Hawk has a passionate interest for Sox games that Benetti could never approach. Jason tries to lure Stone in on his curious tangents which always seem to crash in a baseball cul-de-sac.3 points

He can’t get a job because he literally quit on a team and then was bad in his next job. Not to mention the game is far past his style. It’s not that complicated, quit trying to make it something it’s not.3 points

This guy said that Harper to LA was a done deal back in December. Also said if LA goes for Pollock it wouldn't be more than a 2-year deal. His sources are shaky at best.3 points

Town hall was awesome......Hahn very confident in signing machado got kopech autograph and anderson hall of fame seminar was awesome.....maybe best seminar I'd been to and I've been to just about every soxfest hawk in white track suit3 points

We know almost nothing about the negotiations and most of what has been reported is good news for Sox. The time to rip the front office isn’t now. Let’s see what happens. Another thing... if Machado is so eager to sign somewhere and it’s the Sox fault no deal has been made, why isn’t Machado a Phillie or Padre or Yankee etc.?2 points

My money? Its Jerry's money and he has plenty. Some of you guys are so concerned that his great great grandkids have enough money in their college funds.2 points

I cannot endorse this statement more highly. Paying Manny Machado way more than our current offers makes complete sense when he might very well put up 40 WAR for us over 10 years, which over that time (and counting inflation) would be worth something like $500 million to this franchise. And frankly, paying $12 million per WAR is something we're used to - we paid more than that in our 2015 and 2016 acquisitions. In other words, a $500 million dollar deal for Manny Machado could very well be better spending than our last batch of free agent acquisitions, and no one is talking about that kind of money for him. A $300 million deal has a strong chance of being the best contract the White Sox offer for any US Free agent this decade.2 points
-
No other official offers are on the table, right? Time to apply some pressure. Pull back the original offer and send over a lower one. Every day lower your total contract price by a million dollars. Will I be happy to land Machado? Absolutely. But I'll also be okay if we don't land him.2 points

Well, pretty much what I was most worried about. Dicking around trying to get optimal value and allow other teams the time to start convincing owner to get in the game.2 points

Or just buy in the city and hire whatever property tax appeals law firm your alderman / other elected official is connected to.2 points

Illinois is higher in regressive taxes that matter less than the income tax when you are talking about the kind of money these contracts will be worth.2 points

I don't doubt that Hahn and co are going to be creative, but rarely does "less guaranteed money" win a FA battle.2 points

If you lose out to the padres for under 300 mil you were never serious contenders to begin with2 points

Not buying this. That being said, if Hahn let the fucking Padres beat him out for Machado then Hahn should be fired on the spot.2 points

This being at the table has me confused. Did it take until after the 2018 season for the White Sox to learn all players will “invite them to the table” if they are willing to pay the rate it takes to sign them? Are White Sox fans supposed to take out of this good players will actually listen to the White Sox ifthey make competitive offers as a feather in their cap? No wonder the Cubs own this town.2 points

I do miss the Hawk big time. Benetti is horshit with his snarky sarcastic stuff. Horrible. For the bad teams Hawk had to cover he did awesome. Wish he was back and having to listen to the weasel Bennetti I will miss Hawk even more.2 points

That’s crazy talk. Your never going to have another year where the 4 big boys are out on 2 of the best young free agents . NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. CUBS. DODGERES,YANKEES AND RED SOX ALL WILL NEVER SIT OUT ALL AT ONCE EVER AGAIN. Now is our moment. Hope we take advantage of what has been laid out on the table for us. We shall see.2 points

Yes, because Ozzie is such a great manager and good person that no teams are interested in hiring him to manage their club. He quit on his team, fuck Ozzie.2 points
-
To summarize this thread: Hawk great; Ozzie great. Ozzie will never ever manage again. The country is way way way too P.C. now. Nobody in their right mind would take a chance on him. That said ... I worship Oz in a non religious sorta way. An all-time fave.2 points

I miss him dearly. I'll take last season's version of him over Benetti anyday.2 points

Yeah, u would think that even if the Sox came in pretty high Lozano would still do his due diligence to raise that offer too. He would have still tried to bring in other clubs. He would have still threw out imaginary interest to get the Sox to offer more. He would have played the game just as he has with what might by a little bit of a lower offer than expected.1 point

Sox fans didn’t want Hahn to negotiate if we are being honest. They wanted him to make it quick and offer whatever it took to get it done weeks ago, right?1 point

Yup, at this point -- I don't believe a damn thing anyone posts. I will, however, believe that the FO is a bunch of jackasses if they miss out on Machado and the reason turns out to be because they didn't go bigger in terms of $$. That is an unforgivable sin at this stage and one that would eliminate me from this fan base.1 point

As has been said before, replace the phrase "too PC" with "treating people who are different with you with respect" and you will understand why Greg is so outraged by this.1 point

Absolutely gonna miss him and am still baffled by the hate he's gotten by Sox fans. Hawk, to me, is like your favorite song from your childhood. It never gets old no matter how many times you hear it. Hearing the same ol hawkisms is like those lyrics you belt out every single time and still get the chills.1 point

I do, all the time. I grew up listening to Hawk. With him, part of my childhood is gone. I can’t stand Benetti. I’ve never been the type to mute the broadcast, but I really might now.1 point

Loved listening to him while I grew up and it was time for him to go. Get him the Frick award while he's alive.1 point

If a person who wanted attention got some leaks and then decided to make up 1/2 of them...we'd believe all of them because of the few they got right.1 point

WSD is now what, like 1 for 25? Congrats on the Shields hit there pal ?1 point

If he can stay healthy, hopefully Corey Zangari can do something close to the ridiculous pace he was on last year. He will basically be age appropriate for Kannapolis and if he stays hot he could potentially advance quickly with our lack of real 1B prospects.1 point

To be fair, they actually got Bobby Bonilla for nothing. Rule 5 draft. Traded him for Jose DeLeon who they traded for the One Dog. Also, had they had kept Bonilla, they might not have been bad enough to draft Frank Thomas. So that actually worked out pretty well.1 point
