I don't know, but I know that tweet will come roughly 5 minutes before Fathom quotes it and says "Bad news, guys."13 points

How long before the cat chimes in: “Giants interest in Harper is all a smoke screen to make the Cubs bring down asking price on Heyward. The Cubs are actually meeting with Harper right now ?? #hotstove?”4 points

Universal DH makes too much sense. In over 1900 plate appearances, pitchers had a combined .115/.146/.150 slash line - good for a -23 wRC+. That is absolutely insane. There is no way that is good for the game of the game.4 points

I think Manny will be playing for the Sox this year, and I’m actually more worried about what the opt-outs or swell-opt will be than I am about whether or not we will sign him in the first place.3 points

I think its a much, much larger problem that half the league doesn't even try to win and would frankly rather lose.3 points

Any dingleberry with a spreadsheet can determine when to pinch hit for a pitcher and play match ups3 points

Unless the Sox are going on a talent acquiring spree the next couple of weeks, even though this is minor league, it is exactly the opposite, which seems to be a running theme this offseason, of the type of players Hahn said he would acquire. If you aren’t going to win, you might as well play your young crap, just in case something clicks, than a older guy who can onky muster up a minor league pact, because he is a replacement level player. it is minor league, so probably if he sucks in spring training he is released. I just think he doesn’t move the needle enough to blow off your younger players, even if they suck.3 points

I just heard a bunch of propaganda based motives fueled by at best poor statistic understanding and at worst flat out lies. Also, repeated usage of using victims to gain propaganda based applause. Basically, I heard nothing but garbage, very little substance.3 points

My sources tell me the deal will be done tomorrow for 15 years and 562 mill.2 points

So after all of this, we are just going to unquestionably believe a Twerkdik?2 points

I’m 100% convinced we land him tomorrow or Friday. The offers he wanted are frankly not coming and he probably dropped his 10/$350M demand to something far more reasonable. By doing so, the Sox are also willing to bump up their offer and finally get this done. I’m predicting 8/$260M will be the final number with some combo of opt-outs & swell-opts.2 points

Portis is a sieve that can get hot offensively, but like many bulls, is a black hole on offense. He never passes. He’s really not much different than Antonio Blakeney. The bulls have 10 versions of Antonio blakeneys. Just traded 2.2 points

Baseball has been played the way it is now for well over 100 years. Why does it need to change now? How can anyone possibly think a 3 batter minimum for relief pitchers is good for the game?2 points
-
Literally that is the single biggest thing the game needs to do if it doesn't want to die. The whol enter for one batter thing costs the game SO much time. Imagine all the vistis, and warm ups. There needs to be a 3 batter minimum or something to keep the game flowing. If a RP can't get out RH hitters then he shouldn't be in the league, and vice versa2 points

Rumor has it peavy44 offered a SWELL-opt while Verlander could only offer a short... ahhh, nevermind2 points

I'm telling you, if Manny had in his head the last several years that he's going to get a $300 mil contract, that could be the holdup here. I don't think the Sox are at $175m, as WSD and our people with connections laughed at that report. But even a deal at $225 or $250 mil is not enough if Manny has a $300 million number in his head. He'll eventually have to take less, but he's not eager to do so. We had several reports of Manny wanting $300 million, the first team to get to $300 mil gets him, etc. I think at this point that's his "buy it now" price and it's an important number for him, even if it looks apparent that he's not going to reach it.2 points

Thanks. This may sound dumb, but I’d rather give Manny 8/$280M w/ an opt-out after four year and a swell-opt that can push it to five years by exercising an option than go 7/$210M but give him a straight opt-out after two. Given where we are in our rebuild, pay the fucking premium and buy an extra year or two of guaranteed control.2 points

To be fair, I don't trust any of them but those two in particular were called out. I'm happy not to believe any of them until he signs.2 points

this title is cruel. But I hope you will all join me in realizing time itself sucks. It passes forward and sometimes faster than you'd like and other times slower. And also death is always present. Really tough stuff!2 points

I think there is info in that the market for these two players really is two teams. There has been a lot of buzz trying to get around that fact, begging rich teams to get in play, saying they should sign shorter deals, but it appears both teams have positioned themselves at bids high enough to prevent others from making a run while low enough it hasnt resolved. If that offer gets them, I'll give hahn a standing O. But if I was in the seat and had backing of ownership, I'd have positioned themselves higher publicly on machado to truly make a short term deal outlandish.2 points

If the mlb created a senior tour like the PGA that just included jeter, adam jones and david ross playing softball Bob would leave his job to cover it for free.2 points

I could see a 3 batter minimum OR finish the inning rule. It will speed up the game because of fewer mid-inning pitching changes. It might even add some offense. I like the 26 man roster too and it might lead to more pinch hitters, pinch runners, defensive replacements, or platoons. That adds more strategy to the game which to me is good.2 points

I think the anti-tank rules are too harsh as proposed. Roster expansion is a great idea, and contracting roster expansion in Sept. is also good. The three batter minimum is weird and I think the hardest sell.1 point

We need a dumb rating. Your post is dumb. At least a spoiler tag to hide shitty gifs. It's fucking February 6 you outta urine yet?1 point
