  1. This is a bizarre rant. 2/3 of it is complaining about the greedy players, 1/3 of it is accepting the excuse that the owners are running a business and then asking why there isn't a middle ground. Like you said, they're running a business, and if it means they save $50 million by waiting til March 15 to sign a player, hey that's an extra $50 million. They're running a business and that's a sound business decision.

  2. I have a 7 year old son who loves baseball and his White Sox. I have a 72 year old father who feels the same, but has 65 more years of experience. Ironically, I have had to sell this rebuild to both of them in an almost identical sense. I have also told both of them multiple times that I feel the Machado signing is imminent. Both now ask me multiple times if it's happened yet. I'm so, so tired of all of this. It's sickening. And it's really bad for the game. The owners are certainly operating under the rules of the current CBA. Of course no one should negotiate against oneself. And of course the players, and agents, should do all they can to maximize player value. But this is certainly bad for the game. Pitchers are throwing bullpens in camp on mounds. And the majority of teams aren't even set yet. If I can't tell a 7 year old boy if and when it's time to be excited about a major league team on February 9, FIX THIS SHIT!!

  3. If the market is indeed terrible, I really wish the White Sox would zig when everyone else was zagging and sign both machado and harper to big time contracts around the $300 million mark. Coming into the offseason we were thinking Harper was looking at half-a-billion, and Machado would be over $325. Getting both for around the $300 mark would be an absolute steal. Obviously, the other teams would likely match it if that were the case and try to compete -- but it would be something if the front office decided to try to attack here.

  4. HUH??? It is greed on both sides. I will bet you Jerry has more money than Manny. So w your rationale, the team is also stringing it out to save every last penny.

  5. I 100% believe the yanks never even discussed money and years, and don’t believe this report at all.

  6. Because if they really offered him that, it means Sox offer isn’t as ridiculously low as some reported if they’re still in contention. This report wasn’t some breaking news that they just offered him this. It also reiterates though that Hahn can’t be negotiating trying to get Manny for lowest possible price. We don’t have “home field advantage” in this negotiation.

  7. I don’t get the angst about the Yankees offer. It should make Sox fans feel better, IMO

  8. This is the oddest bidding war ever. Imagine if both teams were in a room. Nationals: I'll match any bid Phillies: I'll match any bid Nationals: so bid Phillies: you bid Nationals: no you Phillies: you first It's an SNL skit.

  9. That tweet makes no sense. Discussing opt-outs and incentives is a waste of time if the two sides don't even have the money and years agreed upon yet.

  11. Yes, that IS greed. Stringing it out just to get every last penny is a perfect example of greed. You can justify it in your mind, but it is still Greed.

  12. I remember all of those really bad Yankees teams of the 80s. Before Jeter. Donny baseball Mattingly, a young Henderson, Barfield, and Dave Righetti. A whole generation ago. And now, really the last 20 years, all this entitlement. If you ever go to Cooperstown and visit the baseball hall of fame, there is a whole section dedicated to the Yankees and their 27 world championships. It really was impressive. And without a doubt fans the flames of entitlement. I hate the Yankees. Lol

  16. Yeah, they have already had a great offseason. Adding Paxton, LeMaheiu, and Ottavino, and retaining Happ and Britton. Easy to see how they have improved, where Boston has gotten worse in losing Kimbrel (so far) and Kelly. And just like Philly, their fans may view Cashman as a failure if they don't get a whale.

  17. Well, I'll skip the lecture about the "I'm sure it will be fine, I haven't gotten anyone knocked up yet!" attitude you had and skip straight to the idea of abortion. I think you should absolutely keep firm that you want her to have an abortion, and as much as it is her decision, it's also your life too, and you really don't have an option to just walk away, both legally and emotionally (assuming you're a normal rational person). The longer she waits, the less likely she is going to want to do it and the more guilty she might feel about it since it sounds like she currently has some guilt about it. It's obviously easier for you, and especially me, to say, but obviously don't bully her in to it either. It's not an easy decision, but it sounds like you and her parents and her at least at one point felt like it was the right decision, so I would keep going down that path, especially since you guys seem to barely even know each other.

  27. YES, that is pretty much the definition of "greed". The issue is, is that good, or bad, or not even an issue. According to Gordon Gecko (Michael Douglas); "Greed is good". And yes, the label applies to both sides. It's called self interest. Neither side should be expected to be altruistic about these negotiations. Each side will look out for its own best interests. T

  29. Also the Yankees are right around 220 million payroll right now- I don't see them adding another 30 mil a year. All this talk about the Yankees is fake news. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/new-york-yankees/payroll/ for the record 228 mil is the highest payroll the Yankees have ever had.

  30. Yes. A large portion of the fanbase doesn't pay close attention and everything will always come down to "Reinsdorf cheap." It takes about 3 seconds of deductive reasoning to see that if Machado wanted to play for the Yankees, the Yankees offered him $220 mil, and the Sox offered him $175 mil, Manny and his agent would block Rick Hahn's phone number. But these people don't pay close attention other than the final outcome of whether he's signed or not. This story is false, but it fits their narrative.

  31. That isn't greed. They should get every penny that they can. Who is anyone to say that 250 million is "enough" or not enough- the market will decide that. They have a specific set of skills that very few people on the planet have and they will and should get paid for it. Just like the owners have every right to make the maximum profit that the market will allow. What fans think they are worth doesn't matter- what matters is what the owners think.

  32. I hope this does not offend anyone because I mean no offense. There are some loyal and dedicated and knowledgeable Sox fans here. I like to think of myself as the same. I want Machado and/or Harper on the Sox at least as much as anyone on this site. But, I am getting turned off by the greed of these players. How much money do they need? Do they have to string this thing out all this time like this just to milk out a few more million? Could they even spend $250 MILLION, if that is what the Sox offer is? At this point I would rather they go sign in Japan and the Sox just play the young guys. At least the young guys want to be here.

  33. Crazy to to think that Timmy busts out with a Javy Baez 2018 type of year? Maybe not as much power but just as exciting of a player on the field?

  34. After that Duquette carp, It’s hilarious to me that if you scan twitter, Yankees fans are so confident they get Machado and White Sox fans are all doom and gloom. Such a contrast. We have had so much more smoke and positive rumors yet we still don’t believe.

  35. Not really psyched about Moncada yet or what his path to success might entail. I think 2020 will be his make or break season. I am getting psyched for TA transitioning into a productive hitter. In spite of a .687 OPS having 51 extra base hits and 64 rbi is not bad for a shortstop along with his 26 SB. More contact and less K's might be the missing pieces for TA who is a free swinger we all know. I do not see how a move to 3B would help Moncada at this point.

  36. I am curious to see (a) where Flores starts and (b) whether or not he keeps performing the way he has. He was pretty good in AA last season, so he might start in AAA, but regardless, there always seems to be soft-throwing lefties who have great control and feel for pitching that become really good MLB pitchers. He might be that guy.

  38. And as a Plan B (no pun intended), at least talk to her about adoption. That might at least be a good compromise for the two of you, and one that shouldn't leave anyone feeling guilty. But I wouldn't really bring up adoption until she is completely past the idea of an abortion.

  40. Yes they do. I grew up in the Western Suburbs and it was split pretty much evenly - Oak Park/River Forest area. The South Suburbs are Sox heavy and the North Suburbs are Cubs heavy. The Cubs have a further reaching fanbase - ie, they have central illinois with the cardinals, iowa, and northern illinois/southern wisco. Their reach goes further, but in the immediate Chicagoland area, the Sox are nearly evenly split. 47/53 is pretty accurate imo, unless you want to produce a study that refutes that point... or you can just stick to pointless first hand experience to draw erroneous conclusions if you prefer that.
