The Sox will sign Machado, the Padres stuff is real but Manny does not want to go there, this is a ploy to get the Sox to pay up. I can say with 200% certainty Manny will be playing 3B for the Sox next season.

My thoughts 1. We didn't bring in Jay and Yonder if we weren't going all in on Machado. 2. We dont want to pay Machado 300 million but will if we have to. We had to know his price could reach at least 300 million. 3. If we give him a 300 million deal, there will be team friendly opt outs and incentives for sure. 4. San Diego is the only team West of Chicago in the running, this tells me he doesn't like it out there. 5. Yonder and Jay are two of his closest friends, they know already where he is leaning and where his head is at. Hell, Machados wife knows what he wants and she would have told her brother. Yonder seems a bit confident. 6. Hahn and KW do not want to let their fan base down. This moment and this point in the rebuild is critical to turning around their fan base. This could be the opening to gaining average crowds of 30k to 35k over the next decade. They won't blow this over 50 million spread out about 8 or 9 years. 7. Hahn and KW know who the threats are and what their outlooks are. We all heard the stupid money comment, so they are prepared for stupid money to be thrown around. 8. This will end in March like Hahn hinted at. No reason for Machado to sign earlier than that if he is 75 million below his asking price. He doesn't care about spring training or making the public at ease.

So overnight, even though probably no negotiating occurred, the Sox went from having both already signed to getting shutout. Just sign already and expose these twitter idiots.

I completely agree with everything you are saying. Let me recap everything that happened in the last 24 hours: 1. Yesterday Chris Russell on 106.7 the Fan said that his source said Harper has made his decision. Announcement in the next 24 hours. Then later his source backed off the 24 hours to next few days, but Harper's decision hasn't changed. Now Chris Russell guessed it was probably the giants. But it was just a guess. This is all over at the Harper thread. 2. Still had the random tweets say sox have signed both whales. And then one of the tweets from @ThisOnesForTom saying the same thing but also saying its done! This guy has broken Patriots news before. So there's possibly some legs to this. 3. At the same time the Patriots fan is tweeting, the Phillies are holding their own presser. That really disappointed a lot of their fans and sports writers. Almost preparing everyone that they may not bring home a whale. 4. Then we had our very own teorey23 chime in "boy oh boy we're all in for a treat" followed by a picture of Harper/Machado. This guy claims to know what's going on. Idk? But Mbs1969 ( another person who seems to know whats going on ) came on 2 nights ago and said no to 2 whales just one - Machado. But shack was arguing that that could have changed. 5. Wsd then joined our sox talk last night and told us that no random tweeter is going to break this story. But the teen with the joc scoop was right just the trade fell apart at the end. He's just assuming the Sox are out on Harper but he doesn't know. He does know about Machado. And feels good about the Sox's chances. SD is a wild card. Yankees are nothing to be worried about. 6. And then we finish the day with a Hector Gomez tweet. The sox are Manny's preferred team. I do agree with wsd in that some radom guy isn't going to break this story. Whether the patriot guy is random or not Idk? I do know this. The front office planned very thoroughly for this offseason. Probably knew that it was going to be a depressed market. Saw that possibility last off season. But still didn't know about the Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, even the Giants or Padres. Did the Sox approach this off season trying to land both superstars? No, not at all. They checked in on both hoping to get one. But.....clearly things have changed. It's a 2 maybe 3 horse race for 2 whales. I think they ARE trying to land both whales now though. Maybe under the circumstances that shack wrote about. But I think They're trying. Will they convert? It's possible. Feel very good about one though.

I’d like to sign the guy too, but between the improvement of Moncada, Anderson, Lopez, Giolito, and the definite debut of this guy and possible debut of Cease, there’s plenty to look forward to in what we already have.

Yeah. Rounding third base would seem to mean years and dollars are set but details are still finalizing. Also seems like a lot of smoke the past two days and Bowden just lit a bonfire.

Bowden isnt in bed with the agents. I believe Bowden's connection is in the front office - likely the Phillies. Bowden I believe because of his connections with front office people.

I have said from day 1 that Harper wasnt the target and never made sense. Sox were kicking the tires but it never made sense. They wanted to trade for manny. Had discussed interest in machado for two+ years. He was their clear and obvious target but if something crazy happened they wanted to be in on Harper at least. This is all coming together like last offseason it was clear and obvious that jd was going to Boston but fake stories popped up over and over. Sox were Machado's clear destination but it didnt mean dollars weren't gonna be milked by Lozano. Looks like this is wrapped up by Monday, finally.

I don't share the same pessimism. I just don't believe that Machado wants to go to the West Coast and I also don't believe the Padres will significantly outbid the Sox. The Sox know how important this is. Could he choose Philly? Absolutely. I'd be pretty shocked if he ended up in San Diego though.

The day I met him I had heard he was a cubs fan. So the first thing I said to him ever was Happy Anniversary. He looked at me puzzled. I said 100 years since the cubs won a world series. That’s not measuring income tax, and it’s blending all taxes in a formula which doesn’t account for the fact that California has a graduated income tax (Illinois does not). When you make a per capita formula it drags down the averages because the vast majority of people in California do not pay 13.3% state income tax. Machado would. The rest would depend on where he lived due to property tax.
