  1. Maybe the real whales were the friends we made along the way.

  3. A little off topic, so I apologize, but I went on the Phillies forum and really liked that they had a stickied thread in which one of the guys posted a link to every MLB team's forums for their members to see what other teams thought. Admins, do we have something like this for a quick reference? I think others would enjoy this, as would I. If no thread has been made, can I make one with all the teams forums?

  9. No, you’re telling everyone else we’re not going to get him and to be prepared for disappointment. If you need to tell yourself that’s fine, whatever, but stop polluting these threads with your over-the-top pessimism.

  10. I think it’s pretty interesting that other teams are being mentioned as driving these deals to their conclusions...

  11. When Moustakas has 20 more HRs, 40 more RBI, a better SLG, 30 less SOs and a lower WAR than Yolmer Sanchez last year, something is wrong with that stat.

  12. They're not going to get a chance like this again. 26yo star free agents don't come around too often. Let alone two of them in the same year, and when other teams arent spending much. The Sox must get one of them.

  13. Even with my latest remarks in this thread, I do feel very confident that the White Sox sign Manny Machado, and I even have a level of confidence that they sign Harper, too. Go Sox.

  14. Then go talk about that on the Harper thread.

  15. You guys are buying the 8/280 offer like it's NOT a ploy to get Sox to pay up. WHEN IT IS.

  17. Some of the pessimism is people protecting themselves from disappointment. Good defense mechanism. But this looks positive to me. All this is to squeeze a little bit more out of Sox before both accept Sox offers. That’s what it looks like to me.

  18. There’s a penchant for overreacting here. So much of what’s released is misdirection. We just won’t know until things are finished. All else is speculation or intentional information used to negotiate through the media. Welcome, rook.

  20. I’ll keep repeating this, but 90% of leaks come with an agenda. All these Padres rumors are being leaked for a reason. IMO, the most obvious one is to scare the White Sox into increasing their bid.

  21. Thank god the boozer of free agency is off the board

  22. Just throwing this out there for fun: Phillies payroll now is at 125,000,000 and in the multi-year summary hovers around the 90,000,000 mark. The white sox payroll is 80,000,000 now and then goes to 25,000,000 for the next two years and then 10,000,000 for the following two. Doesn't mean anything much, but f***ing hell, we have money to play with. So much money that we could sign both Harper and Machado, have contract extensions for Yoan and Eloy set up, AND sign other free agents.

  23. Robs us of Fernando Tatis Jr. and then makes us pay more for Manny a few years later. I think I hate the Padres now.

  25. Yes. As I said, this is good news for Sox. Phillies news was great news. Manny not carrying about west coast was Lozano plant for sure. Padres make good offer which helps the owners side, but with deferrals and tax Sox offer is better and machado and Harper get to sign mega deals after all and justin Verlander cries into his pool of tears alone. Sox probably thrilled this came down to them. Expected to spend more but now dont even need to spend as much as they thought.

  29. I want Machado as much as anyone. But people, this is starting to beg the question... Who is signing who, here? If signing him means absolutely crippling your organization with all the opt outs being the player’s, no team opt outs till much later—and drastically overpaying his value by a hundred million dollars...do you still want that just to say you have a superstar? Baltimore was awful with him because there was no team around him. That might be the case here if our prospects fizzle and all the risk of signing him falls on the team. And if our FO decides NOT to cripple itself and go overboard with risk to win this, do you really think they’ll be fired for doing what’s right and what could mean more success for the future of the team long-term?! Fired for doing what we’d do or what we would want them to do? Sign him if it makes sense but don’t turn us into the Marlins in 3 years because you have to please a starving fan base that knows less than we’d like to believe. A Yogi Berra-esque thought: Don’t be out-bid, but to some extent, it’s OK to be drastically out-risked.

  32. This is good news. He is taking the best deal. So we will know if the Sox were serious, or just excited that a player would consider signing with them if they paid him a boatload of money.

  33. If we miss out on him, I’m egging every house in Winnetka just to make sure I get Hahn’s.

  34. Man this thread is going bi polar.......if Harper deal is heating up it only makes sense to drum up the San Diego talks because without them Machado would only be left with the whitesox.....this is not rocket science guys

  40. Moncada was always an incredible athlete and all around player. Great speed and power combination. A Roberto alomar kind of talent but needed fine tuning. He has a hole in his swing and it's now his turn to adjust. But scouts fall in love with tools and 5 tools especially. Eloy is a fine tuned professional hitter. He doesnt have a hole in his swing and understands how to approach hitting like a veteran. He doesnt have the speed or defense/arm tool upside like yoan but his hitting could be top level good. That means all he has to lean on is his bat which gives him less avenues to produce value... hence why its safer to rank a guy with multiple value generating tools higher. Eloy has a lot of manny Ramirez in him. It is a truly great comp. But remember how manny wasnt really good at anything else... so eloy has a little risk because he had two tools instead of 5. But man are those two tools historically great.
