I know no one wants to really believe it and won’t believe it until Harper actually signs elsewhere but seriously guys, the Sox are not in this. They aren’t laying in the weeds. They don’t have this grand master plan that they are perfectly timing. They aren’t in it. It sucks. They suck. Everyone is trying to tell us and we refuse to believe them. It’s all crazy talk at this point.10 points

At this point a 2 week opt-out would be fine with me. This organization needs some good news.9 points

In a bizarre turn of events the White Sox sign Harper. In a corresponding move, Engel is designated for assignment. Harper puts up career lows the next three years and picks up his option because nobody wants to pay for a hitter batting .220 with 15 home runs and 60 rbis. Engel was claimed by the Padres. Engel average for the past three seasons was .300/ 20 HRS/ 80 RBS/ 60 SB/ 8 Robbed Homeruns/ 3 gold gloves5 points

Jerry should sell the team if he wont spend any money. This is ridiculous.4 points

The goodness of the glass half full outlook doesn't equate to the badness of the glass half empty outlook. Not even close. We could've had a future hof'er at 3rd while keeping our best prospect at his natural position. We could've raised the ceiling of the rebuild. We could've changed the perception of the franchise. We could've gotten a star.4 points

Incentive: Every time Harper burns a Cubs W flag in RF, it's $500k. $10M if it's a Cubs game. $50M if it's a walk off and he rounds the bases with a burning flag.4 points

The Sox are so far away from this Boras couldn’t even use the Sox as a negotiating tactic. Think about that.4 points

Sox are in such pissed off stealth mode that Boras doesn’t even know they are in.4 points

Bryce Harper isn't taking a short-term deal. You don't hire Scott Boras to do that. he'll get his $$.4 points

I’m just going to pretend Engel is Harper. He’ll forget how to hit if we sign him anyway. WE GOT HARPER!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!3 points

Well there is they "mystery team" offer that is over $300M, along with the Phillies. We know its not the Dodgers or he would have signed. All indications are the Giants are not willing to go that long. So....could very well be the Sox.3 points

So you potentially have Harper for this season and not really competing and possibly only 2 more years in 2020 and 2021 when everyone expects the Sox to compete. Oh well. So be it. I wish we could all take a time machine trip to the future to see what junk Hahn and the Sox ultimately waste that $33 million a year on over the next two offseasons.3 points

During this upcoming decade, it would be very nice to hear Jason Benetti routinely announcing the White Sox’ outfield as “Jimenez in left, Robert in center, Harper in right”.3 points

Yeah kind of like Garpax. I'm going to be a pissed off Sox fan if/when he signs with another team. I wonder how ticket sales have been the last couple weeks....2 points

A cheapass who has allowed KW & Hahn to run afoul with no accountability.2 points

I prefer to wait until I am alone and my young impressionable seven year old son cant see me.2 points

Same. I said I was on the fence with him, leaning towards he's alright...going in to this off-season. Unless they sign Bryce Harper, to me he is permanently cementing his legacy as a cheapass.2 points

You’re new here. You have fallen down a Caufield rabbit hole. Enjoy.2 points

This is so frustrating, all this confusion and uncertainty, the Sox could swope in and steal Harper.. just pay up you cheap SOBs.. but sadly we know they won’t.2 points

I'm not defending it, but I'm also not blowing it up like most. The fact is, we gave the 30th ranked prospect twice as much money. We gave him that, and if we traded him tomorrow (he's still only 20 years old) no one would blink. Obviously he's played poorly, but still. We traded a guy that was a lottery ticket and the Padres hit the jackpot. Crediting Preller with some diabolical plan to get Tatis because of his super human scouting abilities is just laughable given the timeline I laid out. The trade sucked, but I'd be the greatest GM of all time if hindsight was allowed. 999 out of 1000 times, you trade a guy like Tatis at that time and you never hear of him again. That's a fact. The Sox caught the one time. Shit happens.2 points

No. You said Latina American players. Manny machado is American. He was born and raised in the USA and went to US high school. Hes not a Latin American prospect no matter how Mmany times people want to continue to spew it. I have Irish in me. I was born in America. If the white Sox signed me, you wouldnt be talking about the white Sox Irish pipeline. My lord.2 points

Hmm I’m not sure what the consequences are going to be for the Sox. I would like to think that the fans will make their voice heard by not spending and not watching but I almost doubt that will decline when it was already in the bottom third of the league . Sox fans do support a winner though And I think we get a bad rap. People will say we don’t show up no matter what but that’s BS. I was there for the years we won. I was there for the black out game. It was fu*****electric.2 points

I know we are the diehards and we take this harder than most, but I do truly wonder if the sox realize the blowback they will receive. like will it show up in the turnstyles? Will it matter? Or is this just a small group of over excited fans like us that are pissed, but still will go to 5-10 games because we love baseball in general? All I can say is that it truly sucks. baseball is basically the only sport I follow balls to the wall.. and now taking my team away from me? it hurts. I know for me, if they landed one of the two big fish I was looking at a partial season ticket plan again.. now I'm just going to pick 2-3 Scout Seats games and enjoy my time, but can't say I care at all about the outcome of the game or even the sox at all. i'll be there for baseball, not the sox.2 points

This is actually one reason why I'm led to believe that they are in fact in the discussion. If they weren't, they'd be used left and right.2 points

Still can't believe they wouldn't go 10/300 with Machado. What a bunch of cheap asses.2 points

Will be funny if Boras doesnt even give a final bid and Sox are just sitting there waiting for the call while the news announces his signing.2 points

Giants will go 10 for 350. Ownership doesnt just talk - when they want someone they get him. Giants gonna be saddled with big bad contracts all over the place.2 points

I'm thinking the Sox are just about out of this, even if they were trying to be under the radar. One of the Giants or Dodgers will end up offering long-term.2 points

Pretty obvious he prefers the west coast. If he's signing a short term deal, it isn't going to be with the White Sox. Only reason he would sign with the Sox is 1) they offer the most money and 2) they offer the most money and he hates the idea of spending 10 years in Philly. End of story.2 points
