So you admit Yolmer is a bench player, yet he is the Sox starting second baseman, but also wonder why Sox fans would be negative about him being in the lineup? What did Hahn get for his $45 million this offseason? Obviously not a starting second baseman. That was far more toxic.3 points

Mentions Bush has found power, though he is attacking early in the count and may need to make adjustments to his approach as he moves up. And that sox felt they got a 5th round talent in the 33rd round and that Law agreed, and if Bush had played in california people would be all over him.2 points

Arguable, at the very least. Maybe you can take into account the Sox having a ridiculous number of legit OF prospects, but there are plenty of people who'd argue what Gonzalez did at age 23(get that right) at A+ isn't that impressive.2 points

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but rebuilding teams shouldn’t be wasting playing time on league average types with limited ceilings. A guy like Sanchez shouldn’t get multiple years in a starting role. Once he’s established his value, he should be moved and the position should be opened up for another young player like Rondon in this case. And I like Yolmer, but him being here right now isn’t doing anything to help the rebuild.2 points

Pre-White Sox Dunn was just "a useful player"? No, pre-White Sox Dunn was on pace for 600+ homers and a spot in the HOF.1 point

Gonzalez isn't 22, he is 23.5 years old which is old for an A ball prospect. It isn't much above average but most of the older ones aren't real prospects but roster fillers. He will be 24 in AAA ball. Still can become a top100 but then he absolutely needs to destroy AA and AAA.1 point

I still think Collins could be a Mike Napoli / Evan Gattis / Carlos Santana early career type player that is a part time catcher. Maybe catches twice a week, DHs twice a week and plays first twice a week. Plenty of value there. I fully support the Sox continuing to allow him to catch. There is no reason not to, even if he is ends up being a part time catcher. You can always pull the plug on catching at a later dates - makes no sense to completely remove that possibility at this point.1 point

Saying Steele Walker is not an essential prospect because there are higher ranked outfielders in the system is not how successful organizations operate. Steele Walker will not become expendable until the Sox have 3 + MLB of'ers. As of today, hey have zero.1 point

If Howard wasnt traded, it was entirely possible he got cut before the season started. It was a bad fit from day one. The Bears got a draft pick, Howard found a team that wanted him, everyone is happy. Until Howard runs for 200 against the Bears this year. #revengegame1 point

I don't think he is saying the team is suppressing his value to hurt him or anything like that, but that his trade value is suppressed as compared to if he were pushed to higher levels. Look at it this way: regardless of how good he is and what that "trade value" should be, who is going to trade for an older player at the lower levels? Rebuilding teams will likely want younger players with higher upsides/longer time frames. Teams that are competing are going to want upper level talent that can quickly be plugged in to their ML roster. A college prospect at the lower levels without a huge upside doesn't really fit either of those categories and its impossible to fit one, but he does have the ability to fit the other. So, if this is a prospect that is not essential to your org and is unlikely to actually contribute to your ML team, it makes sense to push them if it will make them a more valuable asset.1 point

No they're not. AAA is where organizational players go. The average age of someone in AAA is 28. Every single player in high A is younger than 26. 24.5 is the average age of a rookie. Expecting a college draftee to debut by 22 or 23 leaves pretty much zero developmental time and unless you're a huge draft pick you're not going to get moved up that fast regardless. And no, there are thousands of MLB rookies. A few outliers are not inflating the number.1 point

I don't even know what you are arguing. You claimed that Foxx broke the law by recusing herself but not having a special prosecutor appointed, and I said that wasn't likely true. Nothing in this statement contradicts my position. She didn't recuse herself before the court, so the statute doesn't apply. I'm not debating that she appears to have breached ethical rules and best practices, but I don't see where she broke the law. Funny thing, that statement was written by a guy I went to high school with.1 point

Probably because the Sky are a (to use baseball terms) a major league team and all the others with the exception of the Fire are minor league teams. I don't know about the print version of the paper, but they have a bunch of stories on the Fire on their website. https://chicago.suntimes.com/section/fire-soccer/ But I don't know that there's a whole lot of interest in MLS in the city compared to the 4 major sports.1 point

Ummm, okay... you said he should be “spelling starters”. That screams backup. Sure, Yolmer would have a spot on most teams but he wouldn’t be starting at 2B for most of those teams like he is with the Sox. And I don’t get your earlier argument, neither Yolmer nor Palka are legitimate MLB starters. We have more holes than just Yolmer.1 point
-
I didnt admit he was anything. I said he's not guaranteed to be a 2.5 WAR player but it's certainly within his most likely outcomes. If he's a 2.5 WAR player he's league average. 2 years ago he was 2.2 in like 135 games. He's not even one of the 3 worst starters on the team so this animosity towards him makes zero sense. He's actually one of the few guys on the team that would have a spot on nearly every team in baseball. The overwhelming negativity is by far this places biggest turn off. It's neverending. Go find another hobby or team if this one makes you so miserable. My goodness.1 point

Don’t enter the thread then. It seems like you just don’t want to be reminded of an awful trade by Hahn. It’s okay to accept it and call it what it is.1 point
-
I can just hear Hahn right now. ”The money will be spent... on a bunch of scrub players that Kenny and I dumpster dive for! Deal with it, Sox fans! Hahahahahaaa!” I agree with Balta. The money all adds up. $2.5 million for McCann, $4 million for Jay, $9 million for Alonso. And what are these guys doing for you? Does anyone expect them to have good seasons? They are roster fillers who aren’t worth the money Hahn is paying them. I’d rather have Kevan Smith as our backup catcher, Palka at DH, Engel as a backup CFer, and one better player for around $14 million than a trio of suck. Hahn and Kenny think more is better. They always pick quantity over quality cuz it worked one time for the Sox in 2005.1 point

Silly Bears. Howard complimented Cohen so we'll. Bears losing their mind, I don't think they make playoffs next season. Stupid to get rid of Howard.1 point

Kim Foxx has no business being the District Attorney and it is really a shame that media no longer exists in the fashion in which it should to inform voters of this. She literally is not qualified for her position. The failing legal system is what is hurting Chicago more than anything right now and it is not just about holding the police accountable, it is about enforcing the rule of law and her office is not doing that. Precwinkle should not get a single vote but it is Chicago, she'll probably end up winning.1 point

Madrigal gets moved to 3B, which pushes Yoan to LF, which then pushes Eloy to 1B. But then Collins gets moved to 1B, which pushed Eloy to DH. However, Burger was the plan at DH because we have Madrigal at 3B, so once Eloy gets moved to DH, Burger is traded for Tatis, who will be struggling in SD. Tatis comes over and pushes Anderson to CF. Robert is then expendable, so we trade Robert for Machado because SD is entering a rebuild. But then Machado becomes the third baseman, and Madrigal doesn't have a position. I think we should just avoid drafting Abrams.1 point

Lol. Whatever man. Tune into a few games this year instead of spending all your time on here telling all of us how awful this organization is.1 point

You can't waste $2 million here, $3 million there, $6 million there, and then complain about having no money to keep your next core together in 5+ years. That's why this looks extra bad. As many have pointed out, without counting Abreu, they added $44 million in payroll this year and did so with few improvements to the team and even downgrades at some positions. If you're going to penny pinch when it matters, then every other cent you spent deserves extra focus, and if $2 million was wasted because "We didn't want to hold 4 catchers on our 40 man roster", the wasted money deserves to be questioned.1 point

Kevan Smith is a great guy. He'll likely also be out of major league baseball before this season is over, and he's at best a coin's flip to return. He isn't very good. The hand wringing over this move is silly. And that is coming from someone that pretty much hates everything about the McCann signing, though as Y2J mentioned, the two are mutually exclusive.1 point

Do you think the Sox would even have a shot at signing Heimlich as a free agent. You know your front office is bad when you can't even sign a pedophile. He wouldn't sign here anyways cause theres no kids allowed in the clubhouse. Thanks alot LaRoche1 point
