It's pretty clear some white people are really threatened when they can't dictate the way black people speak.9 points
-
Read this Daily News article. But it can best be summarized as: - Baseball suspended a black man for calling a white man the n-word. This is after the white man's feelings got hurt because the black man showed emotion, thereby violating the sport's unwritten rules, so the white man had to punish the black man with physical harm. - This is after another white man had a tirade where he screamed f-bombs at an umpire and charged at him last week because he struck out. No suspension. - This is while the Cleveland Indians exist as a team. - This is while the Atlanta Braves exist and do the tomahawk chop with their fans. If Schwarber had been suspended, the Indians didn't exist, and the Braves fans just do the fucking wave, maybe it wouldn't matter. But much like Tim Anderson's usage of the word, context matters, because as far as we're all aware, there is no actual rule around using the word.5 points

Do you not understand the context? Language related exclusivity among groups and cultures isn't exactly unique.4 points

What’s wrong with the world is continuing to use a word that is offensive to many. But keep making ignorant assumptions about others.3 points
-
Refute your point? Your point is idiotic. You tried to compare the word n$gga to the word cracker and completely ignored the fact millions of people in this country use the former on a daily basis with no ill will in mind while no one uses the latter without hate in mind unless they need something to go with their cheese. The connection is just plain dumb bro.3 points
-
This is a false equivalence. Cracker isn't in common usage among white males.3 points

It’s hilarious to me how many posters just don’t get it. Good job MLB, you punished the only African American on the Sox for calling a white guy a n*gga. MLB is so out of touch it’s ridiculous. This would be ok if MLB wasn’t already known to be culturally insensitive. Adam Jones said it best, this is a white man’s sport. African American players coming to Tim’s defense are not race baiting, they are calling out an out of touch league for what it is. Telling an ump to F off is cool as long as your white.3 points

This. This really is a joke. We had Chris Sale and Adam Eaton, who really couldn't filter themselves. Adam LaRoche retired because his little boy couldn't be on the field during drills. Angering the aforementioned players who would cut up jerseys they didn't like. Oh, let's not forget the unwritten rules which deem physical harm for showing emotion. If Tim Anderson can't filter himself, than half of baseball might as well be a broken Brita filter from 1966.3 points
-
You are not dumb just misinformed. Let's not get offended by things we don't have to worry about like this issue.2 points
-
So you think you have the right to dictate their slang? Sometimes my gf endearingly calls friends "b****es," but if I did, I'd get smacked. I'm okay with that. I understand the language is exclusive. I know better than to tell her and her peer group how they should address one another.2 points
-
It's not the same word. My goodness. And it's used it to decrease the significance of it.2 points
-
Are you in a position to tell him he's not in a position to make a certain decision?2 points
-
You said black people shouldn't be allowed to say it. You dont understand that you're not in a position to make that decision.2 points
-
MLB made it the issue. And God, it sure does beat the 100th thread on Tatis.2 points
-
Posters like him are exactly whats wrong with the world today sadly CWS. Don't sweat it any longer.2 points
-
You would have to be smart enough to understand context. Personally I think it's not a smart usage but black guys talking trash with each other is not a civil rights issue. Acting hurt and offended because you are not exempt from this usage doesn't really matter.2 points

The best course the MLB should take is to issue an apology to Tim Anderson, reinstate his pay and promote him as a league ambassador to attract more black kids to baseball.2 points
-
Man, I'm really stuck in this. Tim Anderson doesn't have a filter. And you wanted Bryce Harper on the White Sox?2 points
-
No, but it’s becoming clear that Tim may not be able to filter himself.2 points

If all sides agree the word shouldn’t be used, then simply set a zero tolerance policy. Until that’s in place, it’s compete bullshit Anderson got a suspension for his comment while Kyle fucking Schwarber was not penalized for his recent actions. That’s the reason people are upset about this and it’s a very fair criticism of MLB.2 points
-
I tend to agree that it shouldn't be used on the field since as players, kids are watching you. Kids (any race) may see what he said and start throwing that work around without understanding the meaning. Edit: but at the same time, there's other bad shit said on the field ?♂️ Edit 2: I also believe he shouldn't have been suspended for it (we won the game anyway but still), but maybe just a small fine. I don't really know.2 points
-
He's being defended because based on the reports he used a racial slur than in everyday conversation he would be allowed to use. Which leads to MLB being attacked as being insensitive to the cultural norms in the black and Latino communities. MLB is being defended because umpires would have to first identify the race of the player, understand if social norms allow him to use that word, then make a decision.2 points

Baseball isn’t a normal profession and he didn’t tell his boss anything. He simply called some asshole who hit him with a 90+ MPH over a bat flip that they were a little b****. Unfortunately he used a word that some white people don’t understand and got suspended as a result. There was nothing racist about what Tim said and his comments were relatively tame to what umps hear on a daily basis. Without a zero tolerance standard in place on the word, him getting suspended is a complete crock of shit. Of course Stroman is going to stand for him and I applaud him for putting their past beefs aside in doing you. Your little “bias” accusation here is quite frankly straight up ignorant.2 points

Are you trying to paint him as a bigot for wanting to move on? I don't get it...2 points

I am not for trading Rodon for more young talent. That's sounds like endless rebuilding. I know he has his down sides, but the Sox are already pitching thin and that is what is keeping them from winning. I know they may not be able to do it, but the time is to buy, not sell.1 point
-
Always possible. However it's his awful upright follow through that concerns me. That's the origin of his shoulder issues.1 point

Yeah, I’m repeating myself but smart money would always be on college pick with Hostetler, but the Fangraphs info on Sox preferences has not been very accurate.1 point
-
I agree. The window to win should start next year. Keep him unless it is a great offer, By the way, new research shows with current pitching, throwing a higher percentage of fastballs is the primary factor for elbow injuries surpassing slider use.1 point

Suspension to Timmy and Ricky... Just deal with it.... More importantly, let's go and win this series vs. the Tigers!1 point

what an incredible article, stirred out of bed with the tablet now to respond. one of the best pieces on any topic I've read all year. easily. poignant, personal and damning, and yet fair and generous and hopeful.1 point

I'm here for Blue Jays drama caused by Tim Anderson. Edit: Cause Grichuck will not be happy about this.1 point

I always just say "cats" instead. It works in most cases.1 point
-
It doesn’t matter. If he used a word of a racial nature that they wouldn’t want anyone to use at any time, he deserves the suspension. You can’t have a double standard.1 point
-
Most anyone who was raised in the 60s when it was used in the most vile, degrading way. And yes, there are a lot of us still alive.1 point
-
If he said it, he said it. And if he said it, he deserves to be suspended for a game.1 point
-
Despite the newsworthiness and guessing, let's please not throw around racial epithets in this thread.1 point
-
Yeah but I doubt they go back and look at video to look for it. MLB is so out of touch.1 point

The sentences in an NBA game would be reduced by 20%. Suspending Tim Anderson for this is so out of touch.1 point

You're clearly not going to get me defending Rick Hahn in any way, shape, or form, but that still doesn't change the reality with Avi Garcia. He would have been more expensive here, on a 1 year deal. He would be covering RF better than what we have so far this year, but the odds of him staying healthy for the full season are still low. Had he performed well, the best we would have gotten out of him is trading him to a team for someone who probably doesn't even fit into our top 30 prospects at the deadline - corner OF hitters with injury histories don't go for much at the deadline (See: Jay Bruce for a recent example). Palka should have been at DH and not in RF, but he absolutely earned more at bats last year. Cordell hasn't played poorly. If one of those guys can become an adequate DH or 4th outfielder next year, that player right there is more valuable to us than anything Avi Garcia would have done for the 2019 White Sox.1 point

People hate on Jason, but I'm a big fan. I feel it is also more difficult when you are a commentator of a team that absolutely blows. Give him a better product and he wins more people over imo1 point
-
I'm with ya. People can joke all they want, but $500K means he has actual talent. I would like to think they wouldn't throw $500K at him if this was just a strictly "he's got lineage" play.1 point

GreenSox saying it's a fair price is my favorite comment in retrospect.1 point

All part of the friends and family plan the White Sox have installed. The Boone Alomar Alou br Brett brothers were all pretty good for a while, Wimpy's brother has a 1.000 career batting average and reached base all 5 times he batted in the major leagues, Hopefully this works out. Then RH can lowball Fernando as a free agent and KW can don sunglasses to hide his shock. that he didn't take the better offer, just the one the team couldn't afford.1 point
