Would like to thank them for having Yoan and Timmy batting consecutively. Was able to watch other programming instead of seeing the other 7 hitters bat from the 5th inning on.3 points

Not to a team with legitimate ownership that wants to win. $300 million is the going rate for top free agent players. Go check the Forbes article again.2 points

It'd be a better world and a better city if the Sox resisted signing Jay and donated the 4 million to public high school sports teams. That woulda been awesome. There's simply no reason a tanking team give Jay ANY at bats or reps in the field this season. Let Cordell play or Engel or anybody 25 or younger. Geez.2 points

I'm still on record in saying I'd much rather the Sox just give Carson Fulmer these innings over Nova and Santana.2 points

Well why would they now. His job is to pitch a lot of innings. They don’t have to be good innings2 points

Nova was such an awful acquisition. God our scouts freaking suck2 points

Fathom is talking about cultural relevance, merchandise sales are distributed evenly across the league, it makes zero difference how many Abreu jerseys are sold, the Sox get the same cut as any other team. (2) You have a very strong victim complex and do zero research, it's not just the mods, it's everyone, the mods have just been around longer and post more in general.2 points

He's such a freak that it was only a matter of time before he found an approach that worked and I really hope this is it. They fact that he is absolutely crushing sliders this year makes me feel that he's turned a very real corner.2 points
-
He's keeping a strong backside on the offspeed stuff. Sliders that he would roll over last year he's hitting where they're pitched this year. I hope it's more than just a streak and he's made some meaningful improvements because god damn is he gifted as an athlete. Clearly has put on strength this year. We are seeing him develop physically at the least. Long term, he is probably a #6-#9 hitter on a playoff team but with this roster, he should be at the top of the order getting as many looks as possible. OBP be damned.2 points

It's impressive that he made it to AAA. Anything past that, however, is more general ineptitude by the White Sox talent evaluation than Engel being worthy of any praise2 points

Nah, you are trying to blame the Sox somehow for him being a poor hitter, which he has always been. If you want to blame them for something, blame them for drafting and promoting him through the system without identifying that his hit tool is awful, which was apparent2 points

Did you not look at his college numbers? He hit .236 in his final year, what do you think?2 points

Just want to be clear I didn't mean that as a negative. I loved watching Trayce and feel like his back injury did him in.2 points

Has there ever been a major league hitter that has a major league slash line of .205/.259/.314 that was sent to the minors and came back a .275/.345 and also able to steal 50ish bases? I will hang up and listen2 points

While the slave trade was abolished (slavery still exists today in different forms like human trafficking and private prisons), emancipation didn’t really solve all black people‘s problems in this country. Racism, bigotry and xenophobia was and is alive and well. I haven’t heard that take before. Edit: Did they seriously suggest that slavery ended black oppression in America? Hot damn.2 points

As someone noted (sorry forgot who) they should get creative and try some of these guys as an opener.1 point

Nothing in Adam Engel's history implies he could be that. That's like saying you'll turn Daniel Palka into the Cincinnati version of Adam Dunn.1 point

Hitting is a skill, which has very little to do with athleticism. Some of the greatest hitters have been guys who didn't have much natural athleticism, and many great athletes have failed and developing the skill. Good eye sight and strong hands are probably a lot more important than foot speed and strength. In any case, it can take a long time to learn to hit Major League pitching and few players are given that opportunity, if they don't quickly succeed. The Sox do not appear to have great coaching, to help hitters to develop the skill, which is very unfortunate, for a young team. Engel has actually had some very good at bats, lately and has hit some balls very hard.1 point

The difference between Yoan Moncada and Adam Engel is that one was given 30 million dollars as soon as he stepped on US soil and was almost immediately the consensus number 1 prospect.... and the other is Adam Engel.1 point

Private companies typically don't discuss their financials in any form but JR and his management team for years have said the White Sox aren't making any money and can't afford high priced payrolls. Williams has said numerous times that you can't spend a dollar if you only have 50 cents. They have been crying poor for years and there is simply no truth to that.1 point

I never cited it being the end of black oppression but the word is rooted in slavery. I just find it disrespectful like for example if someone who is jewish started called themselves Untermensch I would find that disrespectful to the victims of the holocaust (my family is jewish). But people are allowed to do/believe whatever they want regardless of your personal feelings of the word (or mine) it clearly is inappropriate for a place of business.1 point

Grey Worm making plans felt like it was literally from the McBain movie on the Simpsons. He has one week until retirement, and then he's going to sail around the world in a boat called "Live-4-Eva."1 point

My opinion probably isn't going to be very popular but it's really noone has a license to use the word due to it's history. And the reasoning to why is really simple it's because the people who were affected most before emancipation have long since passed and don't have a voice.1 point

I think it's obvious what they did. Their system sucked ass. They wanted to integrate the system with baseball players which they did. His 2016 and 2017 drafts lack some upside but they went with safer college types. While that could potentially hurt system rankings, they will have more big leaguers, guys to trade and better minor league teams in theory. They built a base. We all want more HS guys. That's a fact. I think in 2018, they truly took the BPA (on their board) in the first 3 rounds and they made an effort to splice in some HS talent. I think the need to spend picks on guys with similar profiles to insulate a downtrodden system is over. That doesn't mean HS guys in the first 2 rounds necessarily but I think it means they aren't averse to it. I would expect lots of pitching and college pitching in rounds 3-10.1 point
