I don't know all the history of this board...but did Robert bang the Sir's wife? The dude is literally the best player in all of MiLB this season.4 points

Cease is a hard throwing starter who strikes a ton of guys out. I am actually a bit worried about what Coop may do with him.2 points

I'm watching the Knights game. Cease had 11 K's in 6 innings. He was still throwing 97 - 98 in the last inning, if that radar gun is accurate.2 points

I also picked 18-12. Still think it's early to give up. Cleveland is only 2.5 behind Minnesota and we are only 2.5 behind them. I find it's more fun to believe in really good fortune. Sox have played some very encouraging games lately. IMO...we will do well if the rotation finds consistent solid performances like we've seen recently.2 points

I like how they reassure people with tix to tonite's game.2 points

Anderson is now officially the first Sox middle infielder to finish a month with > 1.000 OPS since Jose Valentin in 20042 points

Then lets not say that, because that's a very tired trope. There are American athletes who lie about their age - Shabazz Muhammad, Tom Shaw. International athletes who lie about their age tend to be little known prospects try to fib a bit to try and get a better life. Not the premier hitter for the Cuban national team ready for a massive payday.2 points

Please, please, please keep torching baseballs and not hit the birmingham brick wall. We've entered the Robert to Chicago in '19 realm of possibility.2 points

He's gonna be bad for a couple weeks and strike out a ton and then get in a groove and force the issue again, IMO2 points

Also we are very quietly 9-6 in the last 15 since starting 3-82 points

Now is not the time to make Eloy a DH. The Sox can always do that later. Please stop banging this drum for the time being.2 points

Ugh. I really believe Adam Engel has a collection of voodoo dolls which will keep him in the majors until the end of time.2 points

That’s why he shouldn’t be promoted. Those 2 games are more important than the rest of the body of work.2 points

Who cares if his wRC+ is twice as good as an all star level player, his K% is 4% above the magical 20% mark.2 points

https://www.milb.com/scores/whitesox/2019-04-30 Cease / Zack Lewis / Davis Martin Martin had a great game last time, let's see if he builds on it.1 point

I know. That post was for people who don't know how OPS works.1 point

What does Nova do for the 2019 Sox season that any other cheaper signing or random starter from the minors like Covey couldn’t do? Be bad and eat innings in a non-competitive season? What’s the difference? Oh, about $8 million dollars.1 point

11 Ks is too many, needs to pitch more to contact and watch the ball get smacked around.1 point

Not Linus though Charlie Brown was the loser and often people thinks it's also a Peanuts character named PIg Pen who had the dark cloud above his head but he was just always in a cloud of dirt and dust. The original rain cloud character is from the “Lil’ Abner” comic strip by cartoonist Al Capp and the character’s name is Joe Btfsplk.1 point

Right, he's a "who knows?" fun follow after his Robert-like run in great falls.1 point

A guy like Tiquan Forbes is a good example. His power will be sapped in Birmingham (he already isn't a power guy), but since arriving he has greatly improved his walk rate while only moderately increasing his k-rate. That's success in birmingham, and if he keeps that up you promote him and see if power arrives with an easier park and MLB ball in AAA. There's no reason a tougher park for power means you need to start striking out at a 40% clip. That's just better pitching and players. Then you have someone like Mendick. His numbers weren't great but he survived, still hit double-digit homers, and showed that he has moderate but real power that may make him a useful utility guy in the bigs.1 point

Bad hitters yes. Tim Anderson hit .312 in Birmingham. Eloy hit .326 with over .900 OPS. It's a big challenge but it doesn't ruin hitters.1 point

I'm just happy the club is watchable on an nightly basis again. Yea they've had some stinkers, the pitching and defense stinks, but the offense is fun, the younger guys like TA and Moncada are playing well and there are some wild cards like Cordell and McCann and Manny that could also contribute to the next good Sox team. Other than the awful weather and Eloy's injury and defensive problems it's been a solid start.1 point

Don't stop him now, he's on a roll. But in all seriousness Chili, if you're going to start questioning so much you should probably just watch the show and see why people got so into it. Picking apart a battle scene is just silly at this point, even with actual faults their fighting scenes are not what made this one of the most popular shows ever.1 point

God damn I'm sick of these "springs". Awful weather follows this team around like they are Linus or some shit.1 point

I had 7 outside sources chime in. They all said it was heads-up base running to try to go back and tag there.1 point

If Robert hits, the White Sox have no made-up excuse. Eloy isn't a great base runner or defender so they could, incorrectly, hide behind him needing more work there. Robert is a great defender and base runner, so if he's hitting with an OPS north of 1000, there's really no excuse for him not to be ready.1 point

BTW, 31 games in 31 days in May. Great scheduling.1 point

Older hitters are regressing earlier because pitchers are pitching at peak velocity. The average fastball is just under 93 mph and has hovered between 92.5 and 93.1mph over the last few seasons. As a hitter ages, it gets harder to catch up with these fastballs. In 2010 the average fastball was just under 91 mph. Huge difference.1 point

If you're trying to get rid of guys with no future, then focus on Covey/Osich types and not actual prospects who throw 99 with movement1 point

I assume his W-S showing will give him a big boost, but how high he ultimately gets is going to be dependent on his performance upon promotion.1 point

Nova is clearly the worst move. What the Sox traded was likely insignificant, but the fact that they gave something up in order to pay Nova $9M+ is a really bad look considering how the free agent market played out this offseason. --------------------------- Wade Miley 1 year $4.5M Clay Bucholz 1 year $3.0M Gio Gonzalez 1 year $2M Jeremy Hellickson 1 year $1.3M Tyson Ross 1 year $5.75M Matt Shoemaker 1 year $3.5M Marco Estrada 1 year $4M Drew Pomeranz 1 year $1.5 ------------------------- White Sox pay Nova 1 year $9.1M and gave Santana $4M to walk away from. Any 2 of those pitchers above +1M on their contract too and you spend less than the Sox did on Nova/Santana* (*if Santana wasn't dumb and didn't opt out). Hahn did not give the market time to develop. Those who waited were rewarded. Those who got 4/5 starts in Deceember. Sox & Tigers.1 point
