Signing either of Harper or Machado would habe been both a sound baseball move AND a shoot for the moon type of move for a superstar who could build hype and sell tickets.4 points

I love these comments saying, “good thing we didn’t waste money on Harper/Machado.” No, instead you get to see more of the same trash signings that Hahn brought in this past offseason. Enjoy!4 points

Neither was Alonso, Jay, Nova, Herrera, and Santana. That’s over $31 million dollars essentially wasted right there. Would’ve paid for one year of Harper at $25 million a year.3 points

Ricky did a nice job of sitting McCann when he was hot.. now he has lost rhythm. Ricky may be the worst manager I've ever seen. But I haven't paid attention to many I guess...2 points

I hate this idea of using relief pitchers rather than get another starter2 points

It’s not really an opener when no one is going to come in and pitch 4-5 innings.2 points

It's the Nick Madrigal conundrum. Sure it's good to put the bat on the ball but if it's a pitchers pitch and all you can do is generate a weak groundball or a lazy flyball it really isn't that much better than striking out. I don't think this will be the case with Abrams because he'll be much bigger and stronger and will be able to drive the ball with authority unlike Lil Nicky.2 points

I knew we would get a "leak" like this about the Sox interest a few months after the dust settled on the offseason. I call BS on any legit Sox interest in Harper. JR and company never had any intention of signing Harper/Machado unless they could get a Black Friday discount on the contract. The way they slow played the whole Machado negotiations is proof of that. JR threw out a low offer bid and just waited and waited until it was topped. The Sox didn't even counter San Diego's offer. Instead they walked away from the table because they were never serious to begin with.2 points

I don't think I've seen or read someone suggesting that either player would be the "end game" for the Sox. Where are you getting that from? What I have seen many astute posters at this site say on many occasions is that both players, at age 26 and both already All Stars, were available to our major market team, the White Sox, who with their current, astonishingly low payroll, and with no other big spenders in the competition, managed to fail to acquire either player.2 points

You can talk all you want about Harper and his WAR numbers and productivity and I get that. But sometimes you do need to look at other things; Harper is a superstar as far as marketing and he would have changed the perception of the White Sox around the league and around the country. It was just a missed opportunity when they had money "that will be spent" to spend.2 points

If Sheets is in fact Anthony Rendon and Tim Anderson develops into Johnny Bench it should be expected that Burdi is used as an opener and Renteria stops bunting.2 points

It'll be great for positional versatility to have the two of them rotate between SS & C to make sure they don't get worn out.2 points

He's been outstanding in RF from all reports, making more than one game saving play. I have no reason to discount his +3 runs in RF given to him by Fangraphs. That said his true talent level is around 4 WAR (not 6) and no he won't live up to the contract. But again who cares? Signing Harper wouldn't have prevented any other move Chicago would make, not then, not now, not in the future. The Sox are just cheap.2 points

Tired of the word games. An aggressive offer is one in which they had put together an offer that was greater than other teams. They didn't put together an aggressive offer. They put together a conservative one.2 points

DFA Castillo and Alonso and call up Collins and Palka. What do they have to lose by doing that? It's almost too perfectly setup to justify carrying those assclowns2 points

I'd like to thank last year's White Sox for only making me have to watch 3 picks this year instead of suffering any longer waiting for their first pick. You guys are the best.2 points

The MiLB game threads are like the national parks of SoxTalk. We can't litter or dump in them. Talk is about the daily MiLB activity. Madrigal went 2-4 with a SB on 5/18 so it wouldn't really make sense for 5/18 daily MiLB thread to be the place to be negative towards him.2 points

They should DFA Alonzo and give the spot to Palka because it's a rebuild year and who cares. But they probably won't eat Yonder's contract, not yet anyways. It cannot be said enough how stupid the "friends and family" plan was. I'll say it again: it was really dumb.1 point

Seriously. Some serious negativity in here. 0 or 1 wins? While possible, its more likely the Sox win 4 games than 0-1 games this week.1 point

It's a great show, well worth your time. The last season of the wire wasn't good either, I couldn't even finish it, but I still love the wire. Same thing here, and frankly most of the episodes in this season in isolation were entertaining - it just didn't build upon the incredibly detailed and robust storytelling that had occurred the first 4 seasons. I would still watch this quality of season over and over.1 point

Guy threw hard. Unfortunately another one of the stacked minor league system that the Sox traded away before the 1960 season in an effort to repeat after the Yankees stole Roger Maris from Kansas City.1 point

Expecting 2-5. I just want to see the core guys play well against good competition.1 point

I totally understand when people are annoyed with editing or don't feel like the character ending was appropriate or rushed or things like that. When you are b****ing about time it takes to walk to a certain place and proper voting for kings and shit like that because "it's not real", you lost the thread. Three episodes ago was a fight against the undead. There are giants and dragons. Who cares1 point

My favorite boring thing is to take off (if I can) for rounds 2-10 and stay home with BA 500 up.1 point

Yeah, it was a callback. I actually think the show runners did a really good job with symbolic callbacks and homages that people didn't notice. If anybody ever rewatches the entire thing, pay attention to the way Dany's scenes are edited and the scenes that follow. There are tons of subtle references to her fate. Almost all of her scenes are followed by references to fire and references to despair.1 point

Palka didn't really get a proper Spring Training as he was hurt. I was really surprised that he didn't start the season on the DL, instead they used an option and let him get ready that way... Whenever they DFA Alonso (I hope soon) Palka will be back.1 point

Of course he's going to be the king in the books. GRRM hasn't written anything that makes sense in 15 years. Don't count on it.1 point

3-4 would be nice. They could get some confidence. Gio and Lopez are pitching pretty well. Nova usually alternates good and bad starts. Houston is great but banged up, and Minnesota isn't the house of horrors it used to be. I think they can do it.1 point

The Fangraphs update just gave Moncada a huge bump defensively. He is now at a -0.1 defensive rating, way up from ~ -3, and 14th in baseball (among 3B). As a result, he is currently sitting at 1.6 fWAR and is on pace for about 5.8 fWAR. I was against moving him to 3B originally, but I want him to stay there now.1 point

a guy that'll be in the discussion next year as a top 3 pick next year (Torkelson) just absolutely demolished a ball at Cal (watching ASU/CAL Vaughn). Good God did he crush this ball...it never came back. Went over the grey building out past the scoreboard....lol...geezus. Not sure I've seen a ball hit that far by a college player.1 point
