People are obssessed with extensions. I'd rather have the next 1.5 years of data on him and pay market price (which we can certainly afford) than lock into him for some 4 for $30 number which isn't prohibitive but would also still be annoying if he turns back to a .650 ops catcher.4 points

I'm going to remain optimistic on Madrigal. He's got the makeup to get to the most of his abilities. That and I will not become one of those overly negative shit on everything SoxTalk posters. That being said, his hitting has been very disappointing so far.3 points

Nope, Eaton being a better player for the 2016 White Sox means jack shit and I’m glad Frazier shoved his ass into a locker for being a loud-mouth, stupid douche.3 points

Just imagine if he is a true #2. What a jolt to the system, especially if Kopech and Cease turn into what we think.2 points

This seems like an odd time to go off against this year's version of the Sox, after possibly their most cromulent performance of the year last night and a good looking Giolito on the mound tonight2 points

I will promise to not worry about him for the entire time that people will promise to stop saying that he should be rushed to the big leagues or be our starting 2b sometime in 2020. I think this is a fair trade.2 points

He better start hitting some HR's then in a hurry because he's not going to get those AB's needed to vest that option.2 points

I think we need to consider that maybe he's so much more productive because he hasn't been an everyday catcher.2 points

I just wish he was playing every day. Playing Castillo every other day has been for the birds.2 points

Thought for sure there would be a winners thread but alas here I am creating it very late after such a fun and historic game. First of all the Sox beat the Astros 9-4. How they did it is the fun and history. Most importantly, Rookie Eloy Jimenez hit 2 solo jacks and Yoan Moncada went 2/5 with an RBI. He also stole a base. These are the main 2 guys you want doing good things. Moncada also started the... Triple play . Moncada was positioned perfectly to field a Jake Marisnick shot down the third base line. Moncada knew he was a pull hitter so got closer to the base before the pitch. He got rid of the ball quickly to Yolmer Sanchez who made a nice play on the low throw and made a nice turn to nip Marisnick at 1st base. This was in the 3rd inning after the Sox had turned a double play in each of the 1st 2 innings. The Sox not only turned the 5 4 3 triple play but also 4 double plays. Probably most surprising of all with 2 outs and the bases loaded Charlie Tilson hit his 1st ML HR. He has been a revelation as a steadying influence in both the lineup and defensively since his recall from AAA Charlotte 16 games ago. Tilson is mostly known to be a speedy singles hitter so the grand slam came as quite the shock to everyone. The triple play was the White Sox first since July 8, 2016, when they turned one during an 11-8 loss to the Braves in Chicago. They also turned one against the Astros that year, on May 18. The White Sox are now only the fourth team in the last 40 years to have hit a grand slam and turned a triple play in the same game. The last to do it was the Tigers in 2017. The common thread between The White Sox and the 2017 Tigers ? James McCann., who has also been a revelation both behind the dish and in the batters box. I haven't seen anything about it ,but I'd venture a guess that a triple play, a grand slam by a guy for his 1st ML HR, 4 double plays and 2 HR's by a rookie more than likely make the Sox the first team to accomplish this in the history of baseball. If anyone has seen anything in the twitterverse about it. please post it.1 point

He does seem good with the fans. That being said, it’s pretty clear he’s a total clown and a complete asshole in the locker room.1 point

I am very pro Abrams, but it is really hard to read such confident projections on his bat and not get excited. I'm actually a bit surprised they said Bryant and Vaughn's power was about equal as I'd have guessed they'd score Bryants higher.1 point

that's the starting pitching mostly. hard to look good when you got three 5th starters (and borderline for a couple of those guys) in your rotation.1 point

Highly doubt it. Seth Beer is a more realistic trade target from Houston, IMO.1 point

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but it is just insane to me that the Sox are unwilling to give Lambert or Flores a shot right now. They're both 25ish, and both are going to have a very tough time cracking into the rotation next year. Give them a shot now while the opportunities are there! I'd ultimately be fine with the Sox cutting Castillo, but I don't think they will. If they plan for Collins to DH even 50% of the time against RHP, we probably need to carry all three catchers. I think it actually makes a decent platoon. McCann C and Collins DH against RHP (Collins occasional C start). McCann C versus LHP and Welington DH (Castillo occasional C start). The odd man out in that scenario is obviously Alonso. IMO - that move should be made...like, today. Also trade out Mendick for Rondon. Cease will be up mid June, IMO.1 point

Right, and to the point where him being a backup doesn't hurt us if someone else grabs the starting role (Collins) or they sign someone (Grandal).1 point

I keep forgetting we have three shit spots in the rotation. Yeah, might need to keep Nova around depending on Banuelos looks when he comes back.1 point

Games like this fuels optimism. We need more of them. At this point, the left side of the field is set with Eloy, Moncada and Anderson. Then there is McCann. Now they need the rest of the team.1 point

There's probably no hurry, but I would be willing to bet that there have been internal discussions already. As it's been mentioned before, he will probably regress offensively, but his defense and baseball IQ make him a huge asset. I'd be more than happy with McCann being around for a few more years.1 point

10 hits, 1 walk, and only 3 strikeouts in 7 innings. Scary peripherals. 1.57 WHIP. Lucky.1 point

Everyone has someone they work with they don’t get along with. Frazier was mostly bad with the Sox,and is fortunate he’s still playing anywhere. Eaton was and is a far better player. So Frazier, do your talking on the field and then pop off.1 point

Is it just me, or does it seem like Moncada throws into the path of the runner quite a bit? Perhaps it is just inexperience, but I feel like I've seen the runner dodging Abreu a bunch this season.1 point

I agree. There is a very good chance that Madrigal never makes it past AA.1 point

I saw a tweet today from the WS about how today is the first time Cease and Eloy have been teammates since the trade. It sent me down a google hole, and I realized that it had been about 2 years since the big 3 white flag trades. Most of the major pieces have either arrived or are one the cusp of hitting the majors (Sorry Basabe fans). As such, it seems like a great time to revisit them and guess which of the 3 trades ends up getting us the most, and which ends up the best for us. I compiled the stats of all the players below to make it a bit easier. IMO, the Sale trade will produce the most for us (I love Eloy, but I really think he is a DH which limits his impact). However, Sale put up a couple amazing seasons for Boston, so I think the Eaton trade may end up being the most lopsided for us. What do ya'll think? (ALSO: Yes, the Shields trade sucked, not the topic here though. Don't be the asshole who derails this with a Hahn rant, we already have threads for that.)1 point

What's even more of an indictment of the organization is that the manager Robin Ventura let this crap go on without doing a damn thing apparently.1 point

Writing like this is one of the most annoying things adults do on the internet. I hope in 20 years, after internet protocol settles in a little more, we're all going to look back and shake our heads at ourselves.1 point

I didn’t vote this way, but if you really believe in Giolito’s start to the year with the changes he’s made, you could argue he’s headed to being a number 2 starter. That’s pretty valuable. Hell, Keith Law might pick option two. Bonus: right now those guys are our entire starting rotation. Giolito and ReyLo and pray for rainouts?1 point

Especially considering the hit rate on the trades. Moncada was as close as to a sure thing as can be, as the #1 prospect and already at AAA, but the rest had real risks. Gio and Lopez already had MLB time, but both had lost some prospect shine and came with asterisks (Gio especially). For everyone else, there was a lot of pedigree but no one was even at AA yet. Out of the 8 legit prospects we got in return, 5 are already in the MLB, Cease is all but guaranteed to get there and Basabe/Dunning still have outside shots. Those main 6 all still have at least a small chance to be All-stars at some point in their career, and it looks like at least a couple will end up as foundational players. That is 75% of a rebuild right there, and way better conversion on prospects than I expected.1 point
